EDIT: I know we reached 45K likes (how? 😭). I need to order new cricket jam and find a way to do this without doing a face reveal. I will incorporate it in the next video about the ants when I get enough footage to make an interesting video. It won't be the next video on the channel but don't worry it will be here!
Awesome video 👍 Ima finish it now
Make this a series please
I think you should add 2 rocks in it or something, it looks pretty empty
I like it
:)
This guy's got a great sense of humor. And the dry delivery of each joke makes everything funnier 👌
I lost it when he said: "It didn't take long for the first ant to come out." and the speech bubble above the ant popped up at 4:14

It's childish
@@kissaninja9700agreed, some of the jokes are decent, but some really aren't funny.
I agree.
“It didn’t take long for the first ant to come out” not gonna lie, that is the funniest joke I’ve heard in awhile 😭😂 caught me off guard with that one
Idk why this was in my recommended, why I clicked on it, or why I enjoyed it so much. Your humor was humorous

I love your sense of humour! And very helpful for those wanting to try their first ant farm. I hope the cricket jam didn't taste as bad as it looked.
I had to pause every couple of seconds just to laugh at this guy's great humor. "It looks disgusting, but it smells... disgusting."
I love you dry humor and I love watching ant colonies grow, so of course I instantly followed! So glad I searched Antscanada and your video came up!
Welcome to the channel! Wow cool that my video came up! Antscanada actually left a comment on this video, maybe that is why
so glad i found this channel one of the best terrarium channels ive found. everyone else is so serious, i love that you add some humor to the mix
Highly entertaining, comical and educational. I really enjoy watching your videos.
I enjoyed ant farms growing up but they were always pretty short lived because apparently you can't mail order queens in the US so they had no way to keep their numbers up
Yeah that is because they fear that new invasive antspecies will get loose
i love that you are chill and just makes little jokes because of those attributes of your channel you have received a new sub
Thanks! welcome to the channel!
agreed, he sounds depressingly funny
I’ve been keeping ants for a few years now, they are fun to watch ofc, and some species are pretty crazy but it looks like you did your research, Lasius niger is definitely a beginner species, and they love digging, so this is the perfect setup.that aside I would recommend keeping big headed ants if your interested in more, they have cool majors, or carpenter ants simply because of their size they would be easy to watch and they are easy to keep.
Awesome thank you! Yes once I got some experience I definitely want to get another species
@@HomemadeEcosystems 👴🏿hey back in my day-
@@konnorsinger5241Niger 🇳🇪
hello, i know it is old ocmment, but worth a shot :) i am totally new to ant world, but I am realyl eager to have my own ant farm... does the larger species that you talked about - carpenter / big headed - are as well easy to handle? I would liek the easiest to handle, nothing extar fancy - btu you are right that little bit larger species are better to watch. I would like to as well have a formicarium (is it call that way?) with natural sand and not the printed one , because of the natural look :) do you have soem tip on where to gatehr information? :D
FAN' TAS' TIC edit and love yer patter ma'man dry af & spot on with'your timing it's excellent. ;) Oh! And stopping your commentary to pop the bubbles is on point @HomemadeEcosystems...Keep up the great vids..
I saw this video popping up on my feed for a couple days and ignored it because I'm not an ant guy. Finally clicked into it and realized that that even though I'm not big on ants, I'm huge on this guy's humor.
The almighty algorithm knows
I actually freaking love this channel
Came for the beautiful sealed jars, stayed for the ridiculous dry humor lmao
I really wish the ants came in the bubble wrap. Like an ant in each of the little bubbles and you have to carefully pop them out.
That would be a long job to get them out 😂
And they'd be dead
XD
No
They’d suffocate cause no air flow 🗿
Monotone voice + funny jokes = A lot of subs & comedy people actually like!
came here expecting i will see some ant nourish but i didnt expect i will get a whole stand up comedy with it
😂 great video! Lots of cheesy humour along with a cool ant set up. Hopefully the queen warms up and moves into her new digs.
Thank you!
Colony looks good. That terrarium is a bit big for them and you will have a hard time adjusting to the colonys needs in that. I would recommend blocking it off until they get bigger if they move back into the tube. I think it might be a good idea to dissolve that honey in some water because they can have a hard time digesting thick honey like that. otherwise you can just make sugar water by mixing one part sugar with 3 parts water and feed them that. that's what i usually do. Also by spraying the ground you make it easier for them to nest in it so try keeping the ground sand dry and only water the back wall part because they won't nest in dry sand. If you have any other questions about keeping them feel free to ask under this comment.
Thank you for the tips! I diluted the honey. The tube is still in there and the queen seems to go back at night, do you think it is a good idea to just darken the tube so they can stay there untill they are ready to move out?
@@HomemadeEcosystems that’s what I would do and then when the whole colony moves into the tube you can try blocking off that nest part. I have the same setup and put the ants in as a beginner like you and had a hard time adjusting to the colony’s needs and getting stuff like humidity right without flooding them. Keeping them in the test tube but still letting them eat from the box is much easier and then when they grow to 100-200 workers you can move into the nest on the back.
@@marvin3202 it is only a few workers that come out with the queen not all so that won't be possible, but I will darken the tube so the queen can stay there during the day, maybe the rest of the workers will come out than too
@@HomemadeEcosystems hope you succeed but otherwise that nest is fine it’s just a bit harder and you won’t have as good visibility so it’s harder to tell how the colony is doing
my man still hearting comments even after the videos been out for almost a year now. bros dedicated
I try !
@@HomemadeEcosystems tbh ill sub just cuz of it lol
I really, really like your speaking style! I feel like you are a very, very lovely person! After watching this video, I feel that ants are also a very cute little insect! The video is awesome! Love this video!❤❤❤
No way! I was having interest on terrariums and you came! Then i started watching ants and you came again!
Good choice of species. Lasius niger is good starter ant for a beginner. Reasonably resilient, colony grows quickly, is not a picky eater. Though you might want to hibernate them over the winter. Put them into cool, dark space for couple of weeks - keep temperature couple of degrees above freezing, make sure the nest won't dry out. Come spring, colony should start breeding vigorously. When they have a lot of brood, give them more protein food larvae need to grow - insects, a bit of unsalted boiled egg yolk and even small bits of raw meat.
The narration on this video is amazing!!!
The first time I saw this and now I started watching a lot of videos. Keep the good work up.
its nice to get some personality and humor in these types of videos
I think you should add a duck to the colony for some variety.
You are right. Ducks are always a good idea
Maybe a tiger to balance out the ecosystem
Came for the ants, stayed for the commentary
Wonderful video! And your comments are priceless!
you should add some more water to the nest. The water should go through the entire nest at least once, so the clay gets wet and can harden a little when it dries again. Otherwise the tunnels might collapse.
the added moisture will also convince the queen to move in. she is currently used to her 100% humidity test tube.
Thank you! The water has gone through completely now but maybe I should add a little more. In the day she moves into the nest but at night she comes out so conditions are not ideal in the nest apparently. Maybe more water helps!
The little dig at ants canada with the "you won't believe what happened.." had me rolling.. You're too funny man
Thanks 😂Antscanada actually commented on this video,
I actually didn't know the Queen could be so belligerent that the colony would have to force her anywhere. Neat!
Ok… the “I’m Gay” bubble when you said the first ant came out… was… HILARIOUS!! 😂
This is so interesting to watch i need a part 2 soon ❤
I’m waiting for the rainforest machine 😂 Great video though! Probably one of the first ones without moss. I thought I was watching AntsCanada for a second until I heard the infamous “unfortunately, that’s what she said”

Ever since I can remember, I've wanted an ant colony. I even requested an ant colony from my children, as a mother's day or birthday gift. Perhaps this year, I will get one😅

0:20 That’s what she sad😂 Got me😂
Your commentary is awesome, I love it!
Thank you!
I really enjoy the narration, anyways I hope you enjoyed the jam
Hey its nice you ant keepers are very careful in taking care of ants lives. Because mostly people ruin ant colonies. You get a sub and keep moving
thanks man! And welcome to the channel!
You are giving a little too much food for the ants for the time being because it's just a small colony. They will end up disposing the remaining leftovers and leave it. It will risk mole growth in the leftovers. You have to clean up the trash they left and waste your time, so my advice is to give less food so you don't have to clean.
Thank you! The transport of the ants took a few days so they were hungry they ate most of the cricket jam but I already took out the leftovers
I'm only not sure about the honey dew, they don't seem to be interested in it at all (besides that one ant in the video)
@@HomemadeEcosystems dilute it with water and the ants will have easier time eating it, they might also just not be looking for the carbohydrates at the moment
@@prcervi Thank you! will try that
