And you have to think, a billion seconds is about 30 years, so trillions is a WAYYY bigger number. It is also impossible for the fertilizer to kill TRILLION of aquatic animals.

  • Watch the boil just past the damn when the second barge is pinned and as it is destroyed the boil surges around the unimpeded flows and cycles in towards where the flow is impeded. As the barge breaks apart, the boil surges in where the flow is still impeded and reduces where the flow was impeded but is now visibly unobstructed. Then as the camera zooms in and you see the workers on the walkway where the 2nd barge is pinned and breaking apart, for a moment you see a red mass in the water in the 1st quadrant (center of top right of screen) which is presumably part of the 1st barge coming to the top of the boil. It is likely being ground to small bits and is being cycled from the bottom to the top compliments of hydraulic flow rather than buoyancy, as the boil of a damn reduces the buoyancy of objects due to more oxygen in the water. Damns are awesome mechanisms for displaying the power of flowing water. Dangerous, but awesome.

  • The only way that I can imagine that anyone might have a chance here would be to grab one of those steel supports at 1:51 on the lower side of the dam. If you miss the supports, it looks like there is a solid concrete base at the bottom that you could also try to grab for and then pull yourself up onto and try to get to the steel supports. I'm sure that current is ridiculous. For a brief time, the barges did temporarily interrupt the flow of water through both of those passages, so it's not quite as strong below them.
