Yeah that’s not how trucks in Pennsylvania come apart 😂 Hand tools would never work in the rust belt.
To make sure everyone knows this. These repair techniques are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. The front axle is either forged or cast, the former is almost impossible to weld properly, the latter is completely impossible. Same goes for the leaf spring, it's a special kind of steel which you can't weld. These welds won't last, the one on the axle will simply let go, and the one on the spring will break right next to the weld. This solution is only acceptably if you are putting this axle under the truck only to get it off the road more easily to a workshop, where they replace it asap. No wonder there are so many deaths on the roads of those countries...
It is clearly visible at several points in this video that this axle was previously repaired at the same exact place before.
@@joncassino Exactly. That's why you mustn't try to repair them.
If it's that bad then go buy 'em a new axle.
in third world country, it will be hard to buy OEM parts, and even if parts are available people probably don't have the money for them on a 30+ yrs truck. on the other hand i heard this kind of repair is like 2000 rupee (~40 USD) and if you drive carefully, this can last you 6 - 12mons which is enough.
@@jlpeng9036 Don't having the money or the parts doesn't justify killing multiple people in an accident. If they don't have the parts, then don't use the truck.
-Has anyone ever successfully welded spring steel? -Define "successfully"..!
WOWW!! REWELDING those broken main springs after they have already been weld repaired once which more than likely caused their failures again at the 1st welds is insanity as one never ever welds leaf springs... Ever... Notice the previous weld repairs to the top main springs just beyond the double wraps.. And the failures along the weld repairs ... No bueno,no good,no...And then towards the end it shows 2 new main double wrapped leaf springs being installed at the top of the spring pack ?!?!?!.. Much better than welded, non quenched, repaired springs... 👌
You do what ya gotta do!
Maybe, and it may sound facetious (is that the right word?), maybe, perhaps, this was all done in aid of getting the truck going on its way, off the road, delivering the goods, and then reassessing the costs of doing a proper refit? But probably, and this is assuming of me, the owners will soon or later figure that it isn't worth getting it fixed properly, and they'll keep running with it until it pops again? (or worse, sell it on)?
That Truck is more than 60 years old. Where you gonna find a replacement part of such an old vehilcle? And moreover, say somehow part becomes available, then how a person driving such an old vehicle for livelihood can afford it? Its Pakistan bro, a very poor and third world country. They even re-furbish worn and torn tyres but don't purchase the new one. Then in this situation, this is a steel spring. They will reweld it thousand times, who cares of road safety and human lives?
When you are stuck in the middle of the road with little time, or money, to buy a brand new spring from far-far away a weld will have to do.
I'm not sure they are new leaf springs. I saw the part numbers on them and thought the same. Then I looked back at the disassembly and, low and behold, the part numbers are just barely visible under the dirt. After repair the dirt is gone.

These boys don’t piss about.they just get the job done.no messing about here.these guys are skilled professionals
Amen they are!! All the negative comments on here come from betas who never touched a wrench or had grease under their fingernails.
Give credit where credit is due. These guys did a fantastic job given the tools they have. Money is hard to come by perhaps and certainly no new truck parts are just sitting around. These folks don't waste anything and do whatever they can to salvage whenever possible. Say what you will about their work but in the end they fixed and accomplished what they set out to do. Yes, the safety is and was compromised during the entire job, but they have been working this way and in these conditions for many years. IMHHO, great job all around. My biggest concern was with all those heavy traffic zipping by all around them hoping no other vehicles accidentally hit this truck with people still under it working without any concerns.
I did give credit to them, i'm just saying get up to speed to improve, I not buying this poor country bull shit, not enough money, they are grown men and can do what ever they set their mind to, they just have to set their mind to it, like anyone else, you cannot get anywhere if you do not set out to get there, simple logic, to hell with all the excuses, done and done
I agree, absolutely first class under those conditions😁💪👍👍
dont make money your god you will perish than, repent and get right with jesus and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and receive the holy spirit....
I wondered what they were doing when they cut the wrist off the axel end. Then when they used the thermal lance rods to gouge to the centre line to allow a successive build up of welds then I could see where they were heading. Everything is a bit medieval but they have no choice.
I agree about the "circumstances" .... but ,- that's why there are countrys who build such trucks .........and there are countrys who try to repair such trucks .... There are roles to made them ,- and there are repair roles It will appeare in the ability of functionality and resistance of stress and burden
While I admire their abilities and ambition, I’m not sure that the failure wasn’t from a previous repair. Kingpins don’t bust their axle ends in the middle of the road without any accident or visible road hazard. In my 79 years, I’ve been a welder, engineer and now a truck driver ……… this repair would scare me. 😢
Professional welders from Russia, I completely agree with you
Same here... weld will not transfer weight for very long. Look for this truck to be sitting in the middle of the road in the very near future. I guess one could call this job security?!? Hopefully when it fails next, nobody gets hurt.
@@GarrenShannon If you know that they receive a salary of 5 USD per day, then of course you are right.
The driver would also know that its scary but he got no option... life is hard in Pakistan specially for a truck operator
Amateur welder from the UK here and I was thinking that too

Good to see they are all wearing safety cap sandals.
Im digging the peak-a-boo welding shield
That guy needs a modern solar-powered welding helmet.
The thing i really like about this. You get to see up close the repair itself. Simple tools and trouble shooting strategies
A welded axle like this has 20% of the strength of the original one.
plus welded leaf spring
I think 20% is too much. Below 10% can be a suitable guess
did you pull that number out of your butt that your boyfriend put in there?
There are two types of people in the comments: those who know that welds will never be as strong as the original material and those who are impressed by this roadside repair.
These people weld everything with the same type of welding rod 😂I like the courage though ,hard workers and not afraid to improvise.
That arm as welding shield is just fire… Purely organic.
this truck's new life basically depends on the two welds. I love how useful is welding!
Not the first of last time it's been welded?

Saw you and Avery in a Cafe in November 2018. I did not realize you guys would become such a pleasure in my life. I judt got a glance from your eye. I wished I could have taken a picture with you. You guys are very entertaining. I do work on my 83 LeBaron a bit and appreciate the difficulties. Keep it up guys.
IT'S A HELL OF A JOB, however It will not last. the welding should have been done from the center of the fracture and build to the outside with with the proper grinding every cm or so.
That's exactly what I thought, too, when watching
Not a root weld. Doomed to failure hate to say
Those guys just hanging underneath the truck supported by a skinny Jack in the middle of that traffic gives me massive anxiety
Bedford excellent British engineering in that truck
Why do I think that the welded end piece is going to break off under load? Tolerances? We don't need no stinkin' tolerances...
Great skills these men and boys have. They got it working yes. But was it a proper repair and will it hold. In my opinion. Absolutely not. The paint on the axle weld made it look good though. They probably did the entire repair for less than 250 dollars.
That's how leaf springs work

welding springs is very scuffed, they do fine weld prep for everything though, just gotta wonder, is burning welding rod for the gouging really cheaper or easier than finding carbon rod?
I would love to work with those guys,,,I would learn alot with them... Much respect..👍💰☕🚬
bare feet mandatory!
not about safety first thats for sure
The only thing you will learn from them is what ignorant ideas are. This axle will fail and when it does I pray that it doesn't take out an innocent family.
The only thing u will learn here is how not to do a job!!!
The faith that these guys have on that orange bottle jack 🤷🏻♂️
IKR?!
And right next to traffic. One nudge.
They put stands under the truck!!
I swear. Every 13 year old kid in this country gets a barely function bottle jack. and a 2 meter, bent pipe. Gee, thanks father. Now I can do half-assed repair jobs Just like my dad. And Omar. The tent makers son.
Yes steven, your dad did do a half ass job. And your teachers didn't do too well either. Stop the hate!!!
By the looks of it, that axle had been "fixed" a few times before.
Should last about 10 miles, great job, the sand in the front bearings should allow everything to fit right in.
Great Job! You are setting a great example for everyone facing a difficult situation. One step at a time... YOU CAN DO IT ! Please be safe.
I am a professional mechanic from Australia....these videos just crack me up
Why? You realize they likely can't get replacement parts like you can? They make due with what they have, get the truck moving so it can earn it's replacement.
These trucks are incredible, all medium duty parts except for the leaf springs, they are double stacked heaviest of the heavy. I appreciate DOT regs here in the states
From an engineer who grew up in a welding shop my thoughts would be that the best thing they could've done to that axle after all of that arc gouging, and heavy welding would've been to bury that axle in deep compacted sand for 24 hours or more to allow the metal and welds to cool down slowly, and then waited until it was cool to the touch before dabbing paint on the welded areas...
they have their own standards 😂😂😂
@@rohmadhendri8722is that what that was 🤣😳🤣🫣🤔
There's a truck sitting in the middle of a busy road...
As an engineer you should know those parts are NOT to be welded under any circumstance because of the dangers it presents.
The truck must be placed back into service ASAP!
Verdaderos cirujanos de la automoción. Felicidades maestros.
That was a very nice 3rd world repair, just goes to prove that a mechanic can get by with what's available, I've noticed that even when in their shop they still do not use air tools, all old school techniques, you would think they would strive to make their lives a little bit easier by updating their tools, it would be an expense at first but would make them more productive and eventually the tool would pay for themselves, just don't understand how some countries refuse to advance, now I'm from Mexico and I see similar issues down there. Javi G.
Lacking the money to make the "investment".
It is all about money. The US is so unbelievably wealthy that we have become spoiled and the average person cannot fix anything. Plus our vehicles are 100 times more complicated than their non-emissions vehicles.
The axle was broken by the weight of the bling on this truck.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA 😁😆😅🤣😂
Glad to see safety squits where used

Good thing he has roadside assistance!! 😉
Thank God the roads and speeds are slow in India because such repairs as this scare the crap out of those who know better. Yikes.
ta naprawa to jest totalny mind blowing
Your know it’s a bad weld when it’s needs a grind at the end .. You could go to jail for a repair like this, it won’t last a year ,but you would be locked up for longer.
With what is shown on these videos, I’m not sure there is a “standard” in this country. They repair everything and put it back into service day in and day out.
Amazing job given the circumstances and tools, working in the middle of the street with tools that are older than you are has got to be tough.
Respect! The true kings of improvisation. I always hate to see comments making fun of those videos.
People make fun of those who say this type of work is high caliber when in fact it is utterly substandard work and dangerous.

that nice job and nice workshop.. i cannot find truck workshop in every city..and they cannot do as fast this..
amazing skill, rebuilding a forged axle with basic tools with orecision, and that welding guy is incredible.....
welding spring blades can't last long. It's not the same steel, and it anneals the blade.
Absolutely. There are times when parts need to be replaced and not repaired or welded. I guess these rigs are so old they are not able to find parts, or they don't have the money to pay for them. It reminds me of the US in the early 50s.
Well........yeah.
That old Bedford J Type is in pretty decent nick, I expect it has an Isuzu diesel engine etc in it now, I had a 1953 Bedford RL, So easy to work on. I expect replacement front axle beams are hard to get now hence them welding on a kingpin assembly! Really not good! The welds are not going to 100% penetrate a cast iron component, As for welding a leaf spring! Surely they could get a new replacement, If it keeps the truck going for a year or 2 it is a success for these guys, They have very few resources to work with and just make the best of what little they have got! They are actually very skilled and resourceful keeping these 1950's wagons on the road, They most probably earn just enough $$ to keep a roof over their heads and feed their family so Kudo's to them as they work hard in cr@p conditions, I love the fact that they wear their going out to dinner shoes to work 😂A UK health and safety inspector would have a fit in that workshop!!
We fix good! It go 75 miles this time, only 50 last time, we weld good!
And the driver can happily go off with the sure knowledge that at any moment today tomorrow next week that it's going to break. It's not a question of if it's a question of when.
How do you know? Are you psychic?!😂
These parts in the truck are forbidden to be repaired by welding. Complete spare parts must be used, either used or new. It is forbidden to use welding for these parts. It is very dangerous, and also the process of measuring and placing the part in its correct place. Everything they did was wrong.
Well you've never fixed anything redneck style have you. Driving up junky cars and you'll figure out what works and what doesn't. They figured out what works Good job guys Don't pay attention to these idiots.

They should spend more money on new parts and less on decorating the truck, those paint jobs will not take the load far !
Orayı yeniden kaynatmak çok tehlikeli olur. Original parça kullanmak gerekliliktir yoksa hiç ilgisi olmayan yolcuların ölümüne yol açar
Aber es funktioniert kurzfristig
Decorating seems to be way cheaper over there than newer parts, just a marketing strategy to sell their hand build truck with basic materials

Obviously due to overloaded beyond it spec. Need to be diligent in hauling loads. Proper maintenance also.
Perfect job👍👍👍👍👍👍
Excelente equipo...
I would think the only way to get good penetration is to have it connect only in the middle and build up the weld from the inside and PREHEAT was never done. but time will tell and welding leaf springs is a really temporary fix. Hard working guys and my hats off to them for what they can with the equipment they have.
Welds are normally done with both connections at a 45 degree angle so the weld has no voids. These welds will fail somewhere down the road. The least they could have done was wire brush the thing.
Your not taking into consideration that the combination of dirt, grease, rust, and paint, combine with the molten spring steel to make a ultra strong super metal that will last for weeks.
Welds must just last long enough to get the truck out of the traffic and into the next village. Then there's another team of mechanics and videographers to film part 2.
Amazing what you can do when you have to.
