The U-14s Scottish Cup final got off to a dramatic start with a goal direct from kick-off. The game was being played between Spartans FC and St Andrew's Boys Club. Louis MacLachlan's goal came in under four seconds.

U-14 is that awkward age group where some kids have hit puberty and some haven't so there are kids 6 feet and taller and then kids 5'4 and shorter

Is the keeper the only person in the stadium that didn’t realise he was shooting from kick off? 😂
For sure he was the only one

His centre halves should've given him the message
Have you ever played a keeper? As a keeper your teammates need to tell you because from that far away you can't actually predict what the other guy's intentions are, especially when you're 14 and you think that nobody can kick that far
@@chingatu6644 Yes I have played as a keeper, it’s not that hard to see what position he’s stood in even at the halfway line. He’s stood on his own and facing towards to opponents goal with a small run up from the ball. If you’re standing well away from your goal at any point as a keeper you’re asking for trouble. No excuse for it at any age of football.

The kickoff is (well, was when I played in the 90's) considered an indirect kick. We did it to a team because the sunlight was favorable but had to roll the ball forward by another player before kicking it. They were our "rival" school. The next year, their field had been turned 90 degrees so that the evening sun did not blind "a keeper"...meaning their keeper.
If I remember correctly the rule states that the ball has to cross the middle line into the half of the team that does the kick off
No you can score directly off a kickoff, you just can't take more than one touch without the ball touching another player first.@@darthjarjar6756

The more amazing thing is that a guy as young as that was as strong and accurate as that on first kick.
I'm a goalie, and I was caught once with this.... You would feel the most stupid goalie ever. Goalies should be in full focus all the time in the pitch, or a deadly goal will come at the expense of their career.
Pun Jab l 😂😂😂
I know that feel... I only played with my friends tho
I also play in goal, if I saw a striker lining up to take a kick off like that I would make sure I am no further than the 6 yard line - terrible starting position from the young lad.

"a deadly goal will come at the expense of their career." - It's an Under 14s game you tit. Career...fuck me....
I remember playing in that age group. It's not particularly uncommon to catch a keeper that far off the line on a kickoff. It's such a memorable goal for any shooter because it definitely plays out slower than your average goal, more like a solid drive in golf.

Wait a minute, when I played soccer long time ago the rule was it has to be touched by 2 players on kick off before a shot on goal.
That was the rule when I played in the 90's in highschool as well.
Must be American rules. I never heard of that
Played in the 90’s as well. It was an indirect kick, also the first touch on the ball could only travel inside the midfield circle. If the ball wasn’t touched by a team mate before it came out of the circle, it was going the opposite direction as a direct kick for the opposing team.
It's definitely not a legal goal. In America or professional. Kickoff is indirect so must be touched first before it can be shot on net
this rule was changed almost 25 years ago, grandpa.
This is why I have the habit of literally standing on the goal line when the other team kicks off and just running to where I'm actually supposed to be when they just pass it back

The correct technique. I could kick a ball from the halfway line into the goal area on the full when I was 11 years old. And before you say anything, it was a full size pitch. Coach called me iron foot. Meant as a compliment but I had other team mates who could do the same thing.
When i was a teenager playing travel soccer i took all the free kicks because i could kick the farthest. Never scored on kickoff but did score one from nearly halfway on a free kick mainly because our striker blocked the keepers view, but still lol. And guess.....what i was one of the shorter kids on the team. Memories. Go 80 Burlington Flames!
@@barryleddiman6797 I think it was because your game was all rusty when it rained.
Law 8 of the FIFA Laws of the Game specifically states that "a goal may be scored directly from the kick-off."
I did not know that. I thought that was why there are always two players next to each other at the centre spot. God knows why they always do that.
If you regularly play football back then, youd know that. Its not done often because theres a slim chance you’ll score a goal.
Thanks for the info. I always thought the ball had to make one full rotation before it was "in play" on the kick off.
The reason for the two players at center circle is that to retain possession of the ball, teams play a pass backward. And because the law (in most cases-though not at the last Euros) says the first touch must go forward, the second player is there to pass the ball backwards.
Alan OBrien they changed the rules you don’t have to tap it forward from kick off now

Wonderful to see this from such a young player - not just thinking of trying it, but having the strength and accuracy to pull it off. THAT is some incredible leg strength at his age, and bodes well for his future as a footballer!
I remember this age when kids just started getting strong enough to launch the ball from mid field to the goal. I played goalie back then, and would always stand on the line because I saw this happen once in a game I was watching. Of course, the time I did see this, it wouldn't have mattered that the goalie was on the line or not because the ball was still 7 feet off the ground when it crossed the goal line, and the goalie was barely 5 feet with arms stretched up.
Great technique for a 14 year old!

@@wesleywildcat84 Any keeper knows if the ball is that far you should be a little further up and not be on the net since if your defenders miss a lost through ball you can recover it faster instead of just running from the line. Soccer is officiated differently than our Football. Referees are instructed to decide if an action is "trifling" and has any effect on the outcome of play. They don't count six seconds everytime the keeper holds the ball unless it becomes an issue, for example. That teammate barely crossing the centerline had no effect on whether or not the goal is scored.

“It’s not what you want to see but it is what has happened”
Direct or Indirect: The kick-off is an indirect free kick. This means that a player cannot score a goal directly from the kick-off. The referee must signal that the kick is indirect by raising their arm until the ball touches another player or goes out of play. so unless the keeper touched it before it went in the net it is a retake of the KO
You can score directly from a kickoff, it's legit. However, in this case it needs retaken because: "A retake is also required if a player other than the kicker is in the opponents' half" His teammate has crossed into the other half before he hits it
I can't even hit the net from the penalty spot lol
