The reason I love Rhod so much in series 7 is he’s the only contestant they’ve ever had that their main objective was to embarrass Greg and Alex as much as possible.
He did not give a fuck about winning. It was entirely about embarrassing his friends. And it was brilliant.

I do like that he's also one of the few that ever gets Alex to involuntarily crack a smile on more than one occasion each episode.
Not only he isn't trying to win, when he wins he does it in an ep[ic fashion by outsmarting the task.

@@vicomi999 no you are right. It was not water boarding until maybe the end. what it actually was which is the ancient water based torture and execution method of water cure. The only thing missing from that was restricting his airflow by plugging his nose. In water cure you shove a funnel down the victims throat and then force them to drink water. They have to keep swallowing in order to avoid drowning and eventually their stomach is fit for bursting and they also suffer severe water intoxication. Other liquids used were bile and piss.
The funniest part was how he went from genuinely having fun, playing a game of tag in a field, to that hahaha
Rhod just basically spent the season bullying Alex and Greg.

There is a fine line between lunatic and comedian, and I think Rhod dances back and forth across that line beautifully.

Rhod's genius lays in his ability to make the hosts regret ever agreeing to have him on (I assume Alex has at least some say in the matter) while making the production crew give into their worst inclinations by not saying no to anything.
He's awful to the hosts, but damn of he doesn't make for excellent television.
@@tjenadonn6158 I think he has a personal relationship with Greg that goes waaayyy beyond just your atypical friendship... then add a TV camera being pointed in his face and you have a recipe for disaster.

Greg expected some sort of bullshit. He has known Rhod for well over a decade, they have been friends for very long and I think Rhod's general sense of purpose can easily be pinned down as "go on Greg's nerves and cause as much mayhem as possible". But the sheer lengths he will go to in order to achieve that goal cannot be overstated. There is no being ready for Rhod Gilbert.
I would love to see rhod try to win instead of wind Greg and Alex up. He'd be a powerhouse. Well, a different kind of powerhouse.

Having seen the couple of series of Ask Rhod Gilbert (when they were briefly available on KZhead), when Rhod would routinely find ways to punish and humiliate Greg, I wonder if Greg ever thought that Taskmaster might be some kind of payback. If so.... How wrong was he!? 🤣🤣

what i find funny is that rhod could have easily won the first task and absolutely scar greg by getting into the bath with his mother and chose not too despite it being 100% something rhod would do.
I was honestly waiting for him to cue Alex to show the UNCROPPED photo.
Especially at the “you weren’t wearing the fez” point, to just reveal him at the other end 🤣
I thought when they said he wasn’t in the hat he was going to say he was in his mum…🤣

Rhod and Acaster are my two most favorite contestants across all of the series. I would love to see them back for the whole new season, not just extra episode. The level of creativity and fun they brought is too much
I actually found that James was quite whiny. He might've been trying to play a role, but the fact that Greg had to pull him aside and scold him once was proof he did not know what he was doing all the time. He also called Rhod and Greg's friendship favoritism, despite the fact that Rhod disqualified himself half the time and Greg gave James some easy wins because he complained too much.
@@sanddagger36 I could argue with this but honestly, I think the funniest part is that Greg pulled James aside to scold him, live in front of the entire audience, with his mic on, it got left in the final edit of the show... And you think that was him genuinely trying to get him to knock it off, and not just like. A joke.
I know it’s not totally an uncommon thing for a comedian to be playing a character, but I got the feeling at times that Greg got a little tired of James not showing his real self and just doing his Rodney Trotter character every episode
Rhod has no human limits. I think the production team failed to stop him because they didn't know how he'd react if they tried.
My favorite part about that first one is actually that Rhod apparently genuinely didn't expect Greg Davies' mother to show up to the taping of the show her own son hosts.
tbf they have done over 100 episodes! I probably wouldn't show up to every taping of my son's show even if they did do a few in one go
Edit: i stand corrected, see below @@CharlieQuartz do mind that "every taping" is 1 per series. They spend some time in the house with each contestant, and then a day in the studio filming the reveals and scoring. Now, granted, I wouldn't expect my family to show up to every job I had either, but it's not completely unreasonable that she could be there.
@@tokeivo I went in to deep research to find out how Taskmaster films their show (one interview with the director and some blokes on Reddit). Filming tasks varies quite a lot to accommodate the comedians' schedules (Mel did hers in about a week, Mortimer did his before and after Spring). Filming in the studio takes about a week with 2-3 episodes done per day. I might show up for the first and last tapings, but for the ones between I'd have things to do! Most of the time honestly never makes it to screen as they're setting up and faffing around in what becomes the outtakes.
@CharlieQuartz Many shows will film multiple episodes per day. Penn & Teller Fool Us, for example, film multiple episodes or segments per day with the same audience. Each taping is about 2-3.5 hours for that 47ish minute show. Its usually a lot of checking and recording reactions like ooo and ahhh.
Alex having a tattoo feels like the most forbidden aspect of this whole thing
Alex has a stage persona. It’s not just the parts that are obviously a bit that are the stage persona, it’s pretty much every panel show and podcast he does when he acts like a totally different person than he does in real life.

It's not like Alex was in any actual danger. The spear was aimed meters away and even if it had gone right at him it barely penetrated a decimenter through the caravan wall so it wouldn't have been close enough for any injury. :p
Rhod Gilbert is so funny. One of my fave comedians. And the things that people to do Alex on this show. Holy crap he takes a punishment. What a champion. One of the funniest is when he had to sit down bare ass on the cake.
Considering this is technically his show since he came yp with it and writes much of the tasks for both the British and American versions I'm sure he is fine, I'm guessing the money is pretty good too lol

@@PraetorianAU I always felt like the NZ version (at least Series 2) was one of the closest ones to capturing the same tomfoolery as the original British version.

@@PraetorianAU definetely give it another go. David Carros is so weird in season 2 (he"s a guy who has worked with the VLDL guys ("Epic NPC man") before.) I think the NZ season 1 suffered from the guy they got as taskmaster being too wooden and not playful enough. He had that hard-ass nature of Greg but without being tempered by Greg's sense of comedy to go with it. But in series 2 he found his footing and got better. I'd call the NZ series 2 on par with the UK original version. One interesting advantage the NZ version had is that with NZ having a lower population density they could afford to film in a bigger house on a bigger plot of land. They had some tasks that would have been hard to pull off in the little golf course groundskeeper house the UK version uses.
Not hard to see why Rhod and Greg have been such good mates for over 15yrs. 😂

@@jenelaina5665 I sortoff feel he won. The thing is he scored fairly low with a lot of the price tasks solely cause he well did something freaky or special for the sole purpose of messing with Greg. He was so close to winning even with doing poor with such tasks that even if he would gotten a few more 2/3/4 points a few times he would be #1 easily.
Rhod having adhd honestly makes me understand this whole video make much more sense. I would do many of these things if given a time limit and pressure and then regret it deeply
I love the fact Mrs Davies got involved to help Rhod tricking her son. They clearly love each other very much.
I'm genuinely happy that Rhod is a comedian and not a serial killer. If he were I'm fairly certain anyone would've found out.
I am still baffled that no one even thought of just closing eyes before saying "your time starts now", that would be easy win.
In the task right after the staring task, Rhod had his eyes closed for about 20 minutes, and Alex pointed out that that would've beaten his 7 minute record. It's fun to see how the contestants get put in a certain task and then forget other options
Alex trials some of the tasks on his kids before running them on the show, and one of them did actually think of it.

It would have been an easy win here but in the Norwegian one the winner got to almost three hours (and then just stopped to get on with the day) so any eye-closers would have given up out of boredom before that.

That season of Taskmaster was the first time I'd seen Rhod Gilbert and between it and his appearances on WILTY, he's become my favorite comedian. Just the right level of unhinged

I'm surprised for the blinking challenge Rob didn't keep his eyes shut the entire time. Go ahead, define "blinking". Nothing in that task said, "keep your eyes open and don't blink" it just said, "don't blink". Keeping them closed allows you to trigger your blinking muscles without "blinking" due to never having "closed your eyes".
That's literally exactly what Alex Horne told everyone after the scores for the task were handed out, but that's cut out of this compilation. He told them the solution was to just close your eyes before the timer starts and keep them closed. Your time would last until you finally opened them and thus completed the blink.. Then he embarrassed them by pointing out they had just been outwitted by his 10 year old son who told him the idea for this task including the trick solution.

7:11 my eyes have seen destruction and dispair, both limb and concrete, devoured by what can only be described as horrific scenes. but i can promise you, i never even once put my hand over my mouth out of shock being presented with those images, until today.

The best part of this-- when Rhod and Alex are in the bikinis-- is the very ominous and determined looking picture of Greg just... *staring* at them the whole time. The camera angles on that bit are top notch.
I'd rather a viewers vote for who comes back rather than champion of champions, some of the contestants who lost badly were made for taskmaster.
They need to make a loser of the losers variant.

The moment 0:36 played and Greg made his reaction... I was in complete hysterics. I couldn't stop laughing for a whole hour and a half, and it made my stomach hurt and made me tear up while I was laughing so hard.

Greg’s in The Cleaner. It’s great. Different wonderful costar each week. HElena Bonham Carter is incredibly creepy in her episode. Loved David Mitchell’s too.
