4 Days SOLO WINTER Camp - IGLOO Build - CHAGA Harvesting - Snow Shelter - Snowfall

This video is about building a snow hut in the forest - IGLOO. There are some bushcraft skills - making a fire, harvesting chaga, preparing firewood, cooking over a fire. It turned out to be a mixed hike bushcraft - camping :)
On the first day, I could not finish building the roof of the shelter, as it took a lot of energy to get to the place through the snow-covered forest.
I didn't have snowshoes or skis, and the snow was above the knee. Snow cover was not strong in places and fell through.
So I had to spend the night without her. Fortunately, there was neither snow or wind. I covered the entrance with a poncho tent and make a fire inside.
On the second day, I was finishing the igloo roof. It turned out to be not easy. I had no experience in building such a shelter as IGLOO.
I knew only one thing about him - you need to lay out the blocks in a spiral, like the shell of a snail. Perhaps the snow was too loose and therefore it was difficult. But I closed it.
And that was very helpful. By the evening of the second day, a heavy snowfall with wind began.
I cooked on fire a piece of meat, drink hot chaga tea and went to bed.
The third day was the coldest.
On this day, I managed to cut down a window of ice for my snow shelter. I also made bed in igloo, covered it with fir branches. The table inside the snow hut was also carved out of ice. I also built a vestibule at the entrance. Now it has become quite comfortable and good.
That day I had dinner already inside my snowy forest shelter - an igloo.
The fourth and final day of my winter solo hike has come.
I cut down the chaga, which I noticed on a birch tree near my camp, processed it and chopped it into pieces.
I brewed tea from fresh chaga. These pieces can be brewed more than once, so I took them with me.
Gathering up, I set off on the way back.
Thanks for watching!

  • In norway, up north, it is a igloo building, every winter. It gets treated with water , slowly, so the building are partly of ice. And it is a big, really big building, it is used as a bar , with a whole bar in it of course, also made of ice . (Think about it "on the rocks" gets easy 🤪), And ,to top it off, one can hire a room to stay the night, in this "ice castle ". And, you wont be cold ! It is full of reindeer fur, and the lights makes it look so very magic . This snow building (a speciality from "samer" ,and inuits ), is a fantastic attraction every vinter. And, to top it off, you can just go outside, look up, and se the miracle of the northern lights. I dont think anything can beat the northern lights. I bet this video maker, already know how to make a igloo. Clearly he know the tecnic behind it . The ceiling/roof is the hardest to get right. And one have to do ot right, or one can get the whole thing in the head while making coffe... It is a very old tecnic, but works just as it did when people actually lived in these buildings ,in the winter.

Whitney. Dinners were very relaxing. The day was done, we sat, talked, and enjoyed our food. Hot coco, or coffee, or tea was a treat to enjoy. Look at the stars, look at our map, and time to sleep. I also went car camping with my brother. Big Sur, Mammoth. We took my truck and had everything to be comfortable. Lots of good food, steaks, eggs, potatoes, and beers too. I camped in a tent in the snow for 2 days once, it was a fun trip. I never made an igloo though. Good job!

  • You did an amazing job building an igloo by yourself. That is no easy task! You were right to build a platform for your bed as cold air sinks. If you build a cold trap in the middle of the floor it will take the coldest air down there with it! Just dig the snow out to ground level to trap that cold air below your bed level even further. That is an amazing job for a first effort. I have yet to manage to build the roof of an igloo by myself. Congratulations and greetings from Canada!

  • This video just gave me so much peace. Nevermind the amount of dedication and patience that needs to go into building that igloo. Just the thought of having to think about a good view or the right angle, setting up camera before doing something, then going back to stop it and put it away and go on with the rest of your work... even without considering the editing (which at least he can do later in the comfort and warmth of his home I assume and probably without a near deadline), is still a big nightmare to me. I would get so frustrated after a short while of constantly recording in that condition that I would probably omit a lot of it. This guy is very patient and of course talented. Kudos to you sir and thanks for sharing this amazing piece of art.

  • Good job. If you plan on doing another one I suggest that you glaze it at the end. You poke a small hole at 45 degrees from top and light a small fire inside with the door closed and it will melt the walls slightly. Put out the fire and let it cool. The walls will freeze up sealing and strengthening the igloo. 3 sealfat candles for about 20 mins should do it.
