Winter bushcraft WIKIUP Shelter - In this video, you will see a three-day hike into the winter forest without a tent or stove.
✅ BUSHCRAFT DUGOUT START to FINSH 👉 • 30 Days How I Alone 🌲 ...
A bushcraft shelter called Wikiap will be built. The skills of bushcraft and woodworking will also be applied: Making a fire using materials collected in the forest, preparing firewood for the night, cooking over a fire, making a wooden door and a tripod with a suspension. I will show you how to make a rope from a piece of branch.
On the first day I got to my winter camping place. I chose a place to build Wikiap so that there were enough dead trees nearby to build this bushcraft shelter. First of all, I assembled the flooring from the poles and covered it with spruce branches. So the size of the shelter is immediately clear and you don't have to redo it.
After that, I collected poles in the area - dead fallen trees and build the Wikiap frame.
Lower dying branches of spruce - spruce branches were used as a covering material. I had to hurry up with the construction, because it was starting to snowfall.
After assembling the shelter, firewood was prepared and stacked inside the Wikiap.
With the birch bark, small dry twigs and flint, I made a fire inside the shelter.
I cooked food on fire from a piece of meat and bread, as well as hot tea.
On the second day of my winter camping, I assembled a door from wooden poles using bushcraft skills.
I moved the fire outside, it was a little smoky.
I also made a tripod over the fire and a hanger for the kettle from the materials at hand - a trellis of poles and a piece of a curved branch.
Then i made bushcraft chair - three sticks and a canvas bag.
For dinner, I cooked buckwheat porridge with beef stew over the fire.
Gradually night fell on my winter camp and I, tired for the whole day, closed the new door and calmly went to bed.
The third day has come. On this day, I did not even start a fire. I had a bite of bacon and the rest of the bread, packed my things, examined the camp and set off on the way back.
Thanks for watching!

  • So, at time 23:20 you heard some critter walking around in the snow? I heard in another video about camping out by one's self, that your mind can be the biggest problem. I camped out once, by myself, when I was 16 or 17. It was summer. I stayed in a small lean-to someone else had built in the side of a hill. All I had was a hunting knife a lot smaller than yours, and a really large camp fire about 3 ft in diameter raging most of the night. I gotta tell ya, when the sun went down, and it got darker than dark, and I was trying to sleep, I opened my eyes at every "snap" and "crack" I heard around me. It's a grand memory... and I'm 70 years old now. Your video brought back a lot of memories... Very nice... It's the kind of video you don't want to end.

    • Thank you. When you spend the night in the forest after a safe stay at home, all your senses are heightened and every shorosh is suspicious :) You need to calm down and check. You gradually get used to it. It's good that there are such interesting memories :) Have a nice day!

  • I see so many people out there building a camp or a debris shelter I guess you would say. And I always wonder why they don't build their bedding area first. For two reasons. Number one it lets you know how big you need to build the rest of the shelter or in bad weather like you are in, how small you can make it so that it's easier to heat and you lose less heat. And number two it's so much easier to build the bed first, then build the shelter around it rather than build the shelter and then try to stuff everything in there. You have to get down on your knees and crawl in and jam and push stuff around. thank you. it makes so much more sense to build the bed first and then build around it it was nice to see.

    • The tripod-based-shelter is one of the oldest type of structures there is. You can modify it to be even more sturdy for more long time use if you have the time. The Sami people of north Scandinavia uses a similar, but not identical, structure that has a inner support frame of two bow shaped timbers on which the smaller side timber are leaning against. They put the side timber very close and then cover it with birch bark as a water proof layer. Out side of that they stack up turf for extra insulation (so no spruce on the sides).

      @sirseigan@sirseigan Жыл бұрын
    • @@sirseiganI imagine the insulation shown here would eventually dry out and become incredibly flammable. Probably not a good idea for long time use.

      @WinterInTheForest@WinterInTheForest Жыл бұрын
    • @@WinterInTheForest I agree. That is probably why the Sami (and others) uses timber that lay side by side (so no gaps in between) and then uses turf on the outside. One could also use clay to plaster the inside of the timber to make it more fireproof. Another take on it is the Nenets who uses reindeer skinn with the fur still on as the both insulation and weather proof layer (quite similar to a tipi or a Lavvu). Lighter and more portable then the permanent turf shelter. No clue of the insulation value of it but they live on the tundra of siberia so I guess it is sturdy enough... Reindeer hides are wonderful to use in the cold and snow for how well it insulates.

I'd pay $50 for a hardback guide on how to live like you do for 2-4 days in the wilderness with nothing but a super minimized kit. Something that would tuck safely in the bottom of my pack for reference in the field. (In case you're pondering writing a book) Take everything you need from within 500 feet of where you set up your fire. I LOVE the no talking and how it really captures the serenity you must experience on these excursions. And the best advantage of all is the massive increase in chance of surviving the 'woops I'm actually stranded in the wilderness in hostile weather' situation knowing how to enjoy recreational camping like this would bring.

    • The no talk, no music is fine for adults. But I think for young people from 3 to 18, it makes it more fun educational and interesting for them to have voice, some humour and some music in-between. Otherwise the videos are brilliant for a adult audience mostly over 35 upwards who prefer no voice etc. Like maybe do a second edited version of these videos on bush survival camping skills for let's say as a educational documentry for school going youngsters up to 18 with voice sound and at times music that fits in with the background etc. Children between ages of 5 to 15 may like to learn why you pad the frame work with leafy branches, safety measures when making a fire, why it's safer to make a shelter in open spaces, how to keep warm etc. It may save a child's life learning what to do, if they get lost in the woods, who may not have the means to start a fire to keep warm and need to make a enclosure to maximise their own body heat to keep warm., instead of wandering around and getting more lost, untill their parents can find them or a adult . How to make whistling sounds to be heard, where to hang up a item, like a scarf to make it easier to find them etc. Also learn how to leave markers as they go along, so that they can locate these markers to go back along the same way they came etc Remember children watch your videos as well and can just take it into their heads to wander off without letting their parents know, feeling adventuress etc. Can't take it for granted these survival bushmen skills camping videos you do, is safely only a thing adults do. Some adults like a bit of talking here and there. I do. Otherwise I enjoy your videos. But would enjoy them more as a educational documentary I can also enjoy watching with my two grandkids who are 6 and 9. They keep asking me questions saying that you not explainning, lol And I'm 68 years old lady. Have been on camping trips many years ago with my late father. He taught me how to start a fire by making a hole in a log and then taking a smaller branch to turn it in the hole both anti clockwise and clockwise building up friction to spark a flame. Also sun reflection through a piece of glass on dead leaves make a flame as well. Camping was always educational fun with my late dad.
