Without CGI Walton Goggins As The Ghoul Is So Weird

Hours in the makeup chair got Walton Goggins most of the way to looking like the radiation-ravaged Ghoul. CGI took care of the rest, and thank God it did.

  • How did you like his appearance as the Ghoul?

    • I'm going to be one of the few people who probably say this there needed to be more ghoulish appearance for him they needed to have maybe an ear missing and part of his skull showing and not so many teeth to be honest if he's eating Flash and basically that's the only food he's eating then his teeth would not be all there! It actually pisses me off how they made this ghoul look so human

The enemy spanned ours and other universes and they were always the same. People have no idea just how dangerous and well armed tennis balls on strings are in the world of movies and TV shows. Those damned little Death Stars that span all scifi shows and eras. Just hanging there over the cameras blowing up my ship as people tell me that's where all the death is coming from. Coming for YOU......... DAMN THOSE FUZZY BALLS OF DOOM!!!!!!!! DAMN YOUUUUU!!!!!!!! To this day I can't watch a single tennis match without thinking how those invincible green tennis balls killed me on Star Trek, Babylon 5, Starship Troopers, Space Above and Beyond and more...... • Funnily enough, vulnerability and insecurity is exactly what pre-war Cooper Howard seemed to be feeling in those scenes, so I think that worked in his favor. The doomsday clock was clearly about to strike midnight and it was shaking his dyed-in-the-wool American patriotism.

  • Lots of the times people commend great practical effects, it’s only that great because it works in conjunction with great visual effects. Like 90% of the time you want both. It’s not that cgi is bad, it’s that deadlines come far too fast, pay is low, morale is low, too much chi is bad because it is very hard to do full cgi shots for a whole movie or show. But using it in conjunction with practical effects saves time

  • I want to know how the CGI replaces his nose.

    @pschroeter1@pschroeter125 күн бұрын
    • They use a prosthetic with white dots in filming. The dailies go to the vfx house where special software called "match moving" is used to estimate the nose's location in 3D. This data goes to the artists where they model and paint his nose cavity, and it tracks as its position moves on camera. Minor adjustments are made for lighting and placement as needed.

  • So used to Walton playing bag guys, that this is a strange role to see him in. I think that is very fitting - the choice of an actor, you are used to mistrusting. I think the show is good. As good as something based on a videogame can be. I just hope they don't turn it into another Westworld by Season 2. There are plenty of actual in-game plot lines the writers can and should borrow from, before they begin inventing their own stuff. I know that they simply want a story set in that pre-established apocalyptic environment, but they shouldn't be fixing what wasn't broken. I mean... those are future concerns. For now, the show is good. The cast is good. The story is formulaic, but decent. Good action. CG that's not a distraction from the plot. I didn't like it at first, being too attached to games, but I'm warming up to it. The show gives me no reasons to dislike it.

  • I was expecting them to have to paint his real nose green for the CGI to remove it. Why wasn't that necessary?

    @strathound@strathound20 күн бұрын
    • Painting it green would have just made the nose a flat shape in every shot. Keeping it out and putting dots on it allows post production animators to still have a sense of perspective and scale which they need because they are modeling the depth of his nasal cavity
