  • Such a clear example of how fear is so often at the root of aggression in animals (including humans), and how, with patience, understanding, compassion (and, sometimes, chicken nuggets!), it can be overcome to reveal a beautiful, affectionate and joyful being.

    • In humans its usually emotional pain, neglect during childhood, of course trauma (you mentioned), hormonal imbalance, poor diet, mental illness etc.

      @katieb3059@katieb30597 ай бұрын
    • @@katieb3059 Of course, there are many and complex reasons for aggressive behaviour. I don't mean to over-simplify the pathology - and the role of trauma or poor health - in anti-social behaviours in animals or humans (that's a whole other discussion!). The primary point I was making is that the probability of fear being the source of aggression is often overlooked.

    • @@sinistral9629 i wasn't trying to correct your previous comment, just to add/name other possible reasons. I think it's known that traumatized dogs fear humans (rightfully so). Problem always has been that there weren't enough patient people with free time to work with these poor dogs.

      @katieb3059@katieb30597 ай бұрын
    • That is correct- most dogs are aggressive because there was something bad going on in the past, and things they don't understand going on now. Also health problems, it's important that dogs get medical treatment for illness and pain. Huge majority of dogs can be turned around with good health treatment and the right dog person. Dog experts agree on this.

  • It saddens me to imagine what this poor girl might have endured to make her so fearful that she felt she had to be "aggressive" to defend herself. But it always makes me happy that there are caring people out there who take the time to give dogs like these the chance to learn to trust humans again. So glad this girl found the loving forever home she deserved from the start.

My neighbor used to have one that we nick named Houdini because he was an escape artist. One time he got out of his yard without his owner noticing and I was coming home from school. I saw Houdini wandering around and my friends said to not go near it its a pit bull. I showed them, I got down to a knee and called him over and he let me pet him and rub his belly, my friends were astounded. I took him back home to his house and my neighbor was happy it ended that way and not animal control being called for a wandering pitbull.

  • 57 year old man at 430 am choked up n crying. I worked at a no kill shelter where I too met a "vicious small female feist type" dog. One could barely put food n water in her kennel. 8 hrs a day at work, while taking care of 15 to 20 other dogs I managed with homemade beef jerky, in tidbits, had that dog as a necklace face to face. She had her legs wrapped around my neck. It took the jerky to have her be comfortable with other humans but less each time. Best job I ever had. Can't train very well unfortunately because I can't seem to stop the bonding and suddenly I feel like we are a couple. Several dogs in my life. Best memories of my life. Never married and could care less. Dogs are the key to so many mental issues. Fear of abandonedment. Addiction. Depression, the list could go on forever.

In fact after my abusive dad died, I moved in with my grandparents (who were and still are the most stable people I know) and I was a terror for years until I turned 18 and something in my brain finally clicked after a couple near death experiences. No one should judge these animals for who they became in these environments. I understand that not everyone has the capabilities to find the true soul of every dog they meet at the kennel, but I wish their fear response to not become a death sentence.

Found putting my face close to hers would calm her instantly: I was putting myself in a vulnerable position so she knew she had nothing to fear ,(,wearing large glasses😂). After 3 years of "behavior reprogramming" she was the friendliest cat I have ever seen.

  • So many dogs and cats cannot tell you the horrors they have suffered often at the hands of humans. Aggression is usually a fear response. I'm so thankful they worked with this beautiful girl. God bless everyone who takes the time to show an animal love in their darkest hour.

  • I got a rescue just like this. She wasn't as aggressive but if you even looked at her the wrong way, she'd pee in terror. After working with her for about a year, she became the most beautiful, happy go-lucky dog I've ever had the privilege of owning. I love rescues with all my heart.

  • Fantastic story! Wonderful couple working with her! This is the most inspiring video I've seen on Dodo, even more than the amazing people who rehabilitate special needs (injured/birth defects) animals. The magic seemed to happen very quickly with this expert trainer. Bravo!

  • Thank you for helping her. So many have been put down because no one took the time to work with them. I can't believe you had her outside playing in 3 days. I hope others can learn from you and save many more dogs the same way. You are Angels ❤

  • Well, I have opened the chopped onions again. Dogs are not inherently bad. And in shelters with so many other dogs barking it must be so scary and they do not know what to expect from one minute to another. I am so happy they put the work into just getting her to learn not all people are bad and the life they have led can become so much better. I have been looking into doing this sort of work myself. Love and respect we should always show to all living things. Thank you nugget lady!

  • I wish some people would give more dogs a chance and have patience with them when they are going through a difficult time as shown in this story. What may appear as aggression might just be fear or trauma and not necessarily the dog’s personality in every case. ❤
