How to repair a damaged plastic ABS car bumper with pieces / chunks missing
Hey all
A little update on my progress on the scrap cabriolet.. Repairing this bumper has slowed me down but I figured I would show you how i go about repairing a bumper that has pieces / chunks missing.

Reminds me years when I working in garage , I repaired almost daily, escort and mondeo bumpers. Using doner bumpers, cut them and welding together.
Ha yeh! The mondeo ones were awful! Partly why I kept this one was to use it to repair another but needs must when they can’t be found as readily as they once were.

That was your mistake with the mondeo repair is used of used sliver tape

Personally i wouldn't have stuck the mesh with Tiger Seal. P40 would do and then no risk of contamination within the f/glass & resin. The original Ford bumpers (as I'm sure you know) have metal reinforcement along that lower section and up to the top bar. Without it yours is more likely to flex and crack with the slightest bump. It would not have been too difficult to have bonded some steel plate or thin wall tubing in whilst doing that gap repair. Also the Ford (and your poor white one) have reinforcing foam. Whilst not adding any strength, does keep it more rigid. Not sure how you could retrofit anything DIY style though.
Yeh interesting point mate. I think it’s solid enough as the layers of fibreglass front and back should give it plenty of rigidity… the tiger seal alone on the back would definitely flex and crack. to be honest, this whole car is a little bit of an experiment, been fun though! Sad to say it’s drawing to a close… Hopefully though I’ll find a bumper for the front and back in time though.
