$1000 set of wheels and tires vs. $4000 set of wheels and tires. Does more expensive mean more better? And is it worth it?
We bought two identical Nissan 350z coupes and have been modifying them to be FUN, daily drivers that you can take to the track. James Pumphrey and Zach Jobe are on Team Hi and their 350z gets the expensive parts. Nolan Sykes and Aaron Parker are on Team Low, and their 350z gets the cheap ones.
For this episode Team Hi bought Advan RG3’s at $676 per wheel and Bridgestone Potenza RE71Rs at $265 per tire for a total of $3,764.
Team Low went with XXR 527s at $127 per wheel and Federal 595 RS-RR at $136 per tire for a total of $1,052.
The two teams will mount these wheel and tire setups on their newly lowered 350Zs and then take them out to the skidpad. We’ll look at 0 to 60 times, stopping distances, how many Gs they can pull. Can cheap tires match the performance of the expensive brands?

    • I’d believe in doing the best of both. So cheap rims and expensive tires. Because the rims matter a lot less than the tires in terms of performance. 4 pounds isn’t that much of a difference when you’re running a stiffer/lower set up, whereas if you max out your usable grip you’re going to have a much more noticeable improvement

    • Brandon Miller but at the same time, if they hit a big pothole or something, the better wheels (and probably the OEM wheels) MIGHT bend, whereas the cheaper ones will definitely bend and could crack. So not only are the more better ones safer, but if you live in a hole-y area, then you could end up saving money over the years.

    • @@enlightenedidiot9552 Let me correct that. Poorly designed subwoofers sound like crap. Price is not a sure determination of performance. SPL in a car is easy and 250-300$ sub can give JL and fosgate a run for it's money. Most "Car" subs are overpriced because of branding. • I think the sponsors are part of their motivation for some of their series, Nos energy drink split after James had a heart attack, and since it was a reoccurring sponsor for Bumper 2 Bumper, meaning it was probably the main sponsor, the series hasn't had a new episode since.

  • Great series, fellas! I would expect those cheap wheels to get damaged / bent / out-of-round much more easily. Before long, Low Car is likely to have wobbles and vibrations that no amount of tire balancing will cure. High Car has a fighting chance to roll smoothly down the road for a long time.
