Woodturning - Well .... This Was Unexpected!

After the success of the first honey pot I really wanted to make another, but me being myself decided to completely change the design and try something new. In the end, I love this design (even though I prefer the original, • Woodturning - This Was... ), it just took a lot longer than expected, and I made some errors and mistakes (off camera) that changed the design of the dipper in particular, you'll have to wait until the bloopers video 2024 to see the mistakes I made 😂😂
The pot is made from Black walnut and Cedar, with the dipper being last year's Christmas tree. All have been sanded to 3000 grit and finished with food-safe oil. I will have to wait and see if the cedar and black walnut changes the taste of the honey.
Let me know what you think of it!

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

And also use your bandsaw to cut some of the corners of from the jar piece? Im just trying to learn, this is not meant as critic but a question towards the process..

  • Very pretty. Two suggestions: Cut the corners off your square glue-ups before turning and when you're cutting grooves for the dipper, use a Forstner bit, you'll get a much smoother cut. You might consider using hard maple and cherry instead of walnut and cedar.

His videos are very instructive and spindle gouges are usually only used to rough out the shape, bowl gouges or round carbide cutters are better for achieving a clean finish.
