@J... And we all knows that the "invenctor" of mma was Bruce
@J i think you are too young. (And i wrote "invenctor" so)
@J(... and i think you mean "Gracie Jitsu"...)
This is horse shit. This movie is bulshit about Bruce Lee. I see why Shannon Lee is so upset and wants to sue them because it doesn't portray his her father at all. The fighting is bullshit to Bruce would never even fight like that. And then noise that he makes when he make some move doesn't even sound like Bruce lee.
@Loafy you do realize that mma(mixed martial arts) is more than just grappling yea, Helio knew a few different styles of grappling but that was still in that realm, whereas Bruce Introduced the idea of mixing several styles of martial arts both grappling styles and Stand up styles together...Now mind you Bruce was only one of the many who contributed to mma, He was just the most recognized and famous for putting out there. Either way you look at it though this portrayal of Bruce is very laudable at best, He was definitely cocking but he also had the skill and know how to back it up. I'm sure there were many people who could have challenged Bruce, however I dont think Bruce would have fought this way. He himself has even said he wouldnt ever get that fancy in a real fight. He would stress, how important simplicity is and how important it is to not waste energy. Bruce was a tactician, he wasnt just a fighter for show.
With glasses: 99% Bruce Lee Takes off glasses: 50% Bruce Lee Starts fighting : 0% Bruce Lee
I agree. Once he took the glasses off, the spell was broken, he just didn't have the eyes. And all the standard Bruce Lee noises at the inappropriate time were just contrived.

People who think Bruce Lee was some kind of superhuman fighting machine, with his "one inch punch" and other nonsense, are fooling themselves. Lee wouldn't have lasted a single round against Ali. Let's be honest, Tarantino WANTED people to be angry about this scene
its called Once Upon a time in Hollywood. its not real
Tarantino's entire ''business model'' as a director is: ripping off older, better movies and creating some BS controversy in the media.
@Joe Dick Seriously? Every movie he releases has some BS controversy going on. Inglorious Basterds had some people whining around, because he supposedly ''made fun out of WWII, the Holocaust etc.'' Django Unchained, had Spike Lee getting his panties in a bunch, because they used the ''N''-word in a movie that took place during the old South/slavery-period. Pretty much every other of his movies,is accused of ''glorifying violence & being sexist'' bla bla bla... In reality, he's a hack, who can only rip-off older, better movies. ''Reservoir Dogs'' has main plotline & entire scenes,ripped-off from Ringo Lam's ''City on Fire'', just to name one example. So, for this movie, he couldn't piss off the black community anymore (not in the current politically correct climate), so he he decided to piss off the Asians and turn Bruce Lee into a bad SNL skit.
@Joe Dick it’s clear Tarantino likes to pull legs. Common you don’t need to research about it.. it’s just common sense. That’s what makes him so cool
@Joe Dick he said in an interview that he personally knew Bruce Lee was arrogant and he said things that wouldn’t mean much like he could beat up Mohammad Ali and stuff. Tarantino made it clear that he is not all what he says he is. But this scene doesn’t say much since he created a character that could beat up Lee. So, whatever Bruce says before that.. all those things he brags that he is great about is just bragging that he often does as per Tarantino.
This is a very underrated one take. Actors and camera landed every detail on point.

He’s talking about a stunt coordinator who worked with Bruce. Yes, Bruce used to tag the stunt men but it wasn’t due to a lack of professionalism, that’s how they worked in Hong Kong. It’s a tale of 2 different cultures. In America, actors are pansies, they never do their own stunts. In Hong Kong, everyone did their own stunts back in the 60’s. Look at some of the stunts Michelle Yeoh did back in the day. The scene where she’s swinging off the side of a bus. "he never fought once but he’s still recognized as a fighting icon" I'm sure cardiologist never had a heart attack once to become a cardiologist. Why do you think that is?
@@gerjaison That's because you need to have a degree in Cardiology to be become a Cardiologist, not a heart attack. If Bruce Lee is a fighting icon then where are his fights? It's like saying Mike Tyson got recognized as a fighter from his movies and and sparring videos, not from his ACTUAL fights. Bruce Lee, for me, is no other than a stuntman/actor/exhibitionist, not a fighter. Sry for bad eng.
@Terrell Bone there are literaly videos of him fighting and he is the founder of jeet kune doo
Back then everyone who knew Bruce Lee and worked with him, said Bruce was a great and wonderful guy. Once upon a time in Hollywood is a movie about what happens in another universe.
You answered my question thanks.
It is taken out of context but he did work with gene labelle legendary stuntman/ judo badass who Bruce lee highly respected and later became a student of to learn grappling from and vice versa gene went to learn from Bruce. This is the only thing we know gene labelle worked on green hornet as well. And we know what gene labelle did to Steven seagal years later so if bruce acted up there's no doubt in my mind gene would of muddied the waters.
shizloner Yeah ok...
@@robsmith6650 yeah totally bro!
According to LeBell, Lee was a working stiff on the set of The Green Hornet but was kicking the shit out of the stuntmen. They couldn’t convince him that he could go easy and it would still look great on film. The show’s stunt coordinator, Bennie Dobbins, needed a ringer to deal with Lee, so he called in Judo Gene. LeBell says when he got to the set, Dobbins told him to put Lee “in a headlock or something.” So LeBell went up and grabbed Lee. “He started making all those noises that he became famous for,” LeBell said, “but he didn’t try to counter me, so I think he was more surprised than anything else.” Then LeBell lifted Lee onto his back in what’s called a fireman’s carry and ran around the set with him. “Put me down or I’ll kill you!” Lee screamed. “I can’t put you down or you’ll kill me,” LeBell said, holding Lee there as long as he dared before putting him down, saying, “Hey, Bruce, don’t kill me. Just kidding, champ.” Back on his feet again, Lee didn’t kill LeBell. Instead, Lee recognized that the lack of grappling was a deficiency in the Jeet Kune Do style of martial arts he was developing. So Lee trained with LeBell for a little over a year with LeBell showing Lee armbars, leg locks and takedowns, and Lee schooling LeBell in kung fu kicks. After training with LeBell, Lee incorporated grappling moves into his film fighting. He finishes off Chuck Norris with a chokehold in Way of the Dragon (1972) and beats a young Sammo Hung with an armbar in Enter the Dragon (1973).
Notice how everyone that was watching in the background disappeared once Bruce Lee got thrown into the car. Everyone be like, "I'm getting the fuck outta here!" LOL.
If you watch closely the only one left is the little guy wearing the huge vest and he immediately goes to the phone and makes a call people definitely want to get out of there
Bruce Lee is just someone who knew how to make himself a legend, he's just an actor and there is no documented fight for him, only his exaggerated rumors that made him a legend. I love this scene because it's so real and so funny😂😂😂

Perfect take by Brad Pitt's character. There is a reason we have weight classes. 2 professional fighters in the ring with 100lbs difference isn't going to bode well for 120 lbs 'er.
@Ajax the whole point of the conversation was the Bruce Lee character saying he'd cripple Ali. Can you imagine Bruce Lee getting into the ring with 20 year old Tyson? Bruce couldn't generate enough power at 120 lbs to stop that freight train.
@Ajax true, but Bruce's character said he'd cripple Ali...that's the point. I said "2 professional fighters " in original comment.
@Ajax I'm a Bruce fan too. I don't think Bruce was that full of himself as portrayed. He was a master tactician and studied boxing ( as you know). I doubt the real Bruce Lee would make such remarks
@Ajax Bruce Lee was overrated. He never competed professionally. He'd easily get decimated by a novice boxer/MMA guy.

This is actually a reversed parody of a real incident that occurred on the set of “enter the dragon”, where bruce lee supposedly stood up to a stuntman. But in the real story the stuntman was the loud-mouth, and bruce lee was brad pitt. This movie essentially reversed the roles. Edit: I realize there were multiple incidents which this could be based on, the most probable one being with Gene Lebell. I was referring to a different incident I had heard of where Bruce supposedly got frustrated with an actor that was not cooperating on set and put him in place.
Everything is reversed in this movie. The manson hippies in real life murdered a bunch of people but in the movie they get hilariously wrecked

....If only this wasn't the actual Bruce Lee, his diva attitudes on sets and his standard fighting capabilities.
the only thing I will say about this scene, is that I dont believe for one second that Bruce Lee would have done the same attack twice knowing the opponent is expecting it. that would be more than foolish. Even an untrained man of Pitts size is capable of defending what he knows is coming and landing a very hard blow.
Well, Cliff said, "Now try that again" so Bruce Lee tried it again. So there's that
The point was to overstate Bruce's narcissistic approach to life after the rise of his stardom.

A Oh I’m not lying dude, I like him he was a pioneer for martial arts and a great martial artist, I don’t like the fans that are deluded though. The videos of him sparring don’t show any supernatural speed he’s fast but not insanely fast. Lee was a philosopher first not a fighter as were most great martial artists and that’s fine but I don’t get why people think he would destroy anyone in a fight, the brutal truth is that he’d likely be pieced apart by a MMA fighter a very traditional martial artist isn’t successful in real fights. He’d probably beat most people in a traditional martial arts fight but he wouldn’t beat a good fighter outside of that

Exactly. They shouldn't fuk with Bruce legacy like that. He was untouchable, immovable and absolutely unbeatable. So they can Kik rocks and leave Bruce alone
bosslee35 That’s what the owners of the Bruce Lee “BRAND” want you to believe. Just my opinion 😎
@@leylandkennedy35 Not exactly true. He wasn't unbeatable, but every time he encountered adversity or saw weakness in his approach, he would adapt and completely redefine it. At first he had no idea how effective grappling could be until he encountered grapplers. That isn't to say he wasn't talented or fit, but he was human like any of us, and if he were brought to the present with no time to train or adapt to what we have learned in MMA, and had him fight MMA, even in his weight class, he would likely lose to many of the greats. However, it he did have time to learn and improve upon what we have learned, I have no doubt he would have make an amazing counter striker which could dominate multiple divisions.
