Botic was a bit injured, hence he often stopped so early running to get them (and hence Gaston hit so many dropshots)

He just stops, hangs in there, and then hammers it away. Spectacular !
He has great racket lag which allows more/faster racket head speed buildup

There used to be a phrase: "good touch for a big man". I never quite understood that - why can't big men have good touch, doesn't make sense..... Well Botic - big man - gives us some amazing touch in this video. Didn't move well, though - nursing an injury, perhaps? Well played Hugo (he's a guy with some brilliant touch of his own, tbf).
Van de Sandsculpture’s forehand is probably one of the easiest power generating ground strokes currently on tour. It’s so smooth
On tour?? He's a great player, and his run in the US Open was awesome, but maybe, we should be realistic: He's not even top 50 and there are also better forehands on tour.

Le problème de Hugo Gaston,il est trop dans la défensive,il n'attaque pas assez.
Il gagne quand même le match au final. Chacun son style même si il y laisse certainement des forces. VDZ est devenu un très solide joueur de dur c’est bien d’arriver à la battre.
@@antoinethomas6570 Tu as raison. J'aime bien Hugo Gaston, il a style à part mais j'ai peur que s'il joue trop défensif il va perdre des matchs importants. J'aimerais bien qu'il retrouve son niveau de 2020. Ses amorties sont incroyables.
@@passionpourlessportsextrem2768 mais il est bien plus fort qu'en 2020 hein Il a vachement progressé et s'est épaissi physiquement ça lui permet d'être vraiment plus incisif sur ses attaques et grapiller quelques km/h sur première balle

botic plays beautiful tennis, gaston plays scrappy tennis. Botic could get double bageled and still LOOK like the better player you know?

@@Timothy_Pitt people just need to give scrappy players more credit. Gaston is one of the best movers in the game, and he has great hands as well. It's not easy to do what he does...it just isn't pretty either haha.

@@abujabi well yeah obviously. he is a world-class pusher, partially because he is an amazing athlete and has great feel for the tennis ball. unfortunately, he uses those skills to push and grind until his opponent gets tired

They both play amazingly well. They would destroy me or friends of mine (amateur tennis players) in 30 minutes. Now imagine how both of them would get destroyed by the likes of Djokovic, Nadal, Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas, ... Sometimes I doubt we all play the same sport
