When Brett asked Nate, why Khamzat Chimaev, Nate was trying to explain that when he was an up and coming fighter, he had no desire to fight the legends of the sport at that time like BJ Penn, etc because he respected them but these modern day fighters take joy in knocking out or beating the legends of this new era like a Nate Diaz himself, or when Izzy beat Anderson Silva, or how Usman wanted to fight a retired GSP! I'm with you but I also believe an up and comer can fight a legend with the upmost respect and admiration. I believe that was the case with Izzy. It has to happen eventually, the torch needs to be passed to the new generation somehow.
This isn't what he said at all lol. He's saying belts don't make the fighter. He was fighting for more than a belt. His record shows him fight the best, a belt says nothing. How many "champion" will have the same respect Nate has when they are done. He's saying the belt doesn't matter if you aren't fighting the best to get there
As a huge fan (of both brothers), I found this painful. He knows he's being thrown to the wolves, but he's gonna give it all he's got. Disgusting matchup for a guy that's given everything to the UFC. God I'd love to see him win.
Yeah same, it would be an even bigger middle finger to the ufc then when Francis actually beat gane on one leg after staking and gambling his entire future and career against the ufc and won. I heard of Nate D. But I never watched him. I never listened to him. So, I started watching him. I started listening to him. His come off is ghetto- but I don’t think his mindset is ghetto. He appears to bring it to the fight though. He appears to have honest dedication to himself and his followers.

My favorite part about a Nate Diaz interview is like 10-15 minutes into it when he's gotten comfortable and goes from one word answers to just absolutely classic monologues.

Nate came into this fight basically saying “i was Nate Diaz before Conor was Conor, before Kamaru was Kamaru” he pioneered the fight game not off of enticing but subtle entertainment. If this is his last fight in the UFC, he will have forever changed the game that all of us fans love, today.
