  • First: all of these women are gorgeous and I'm glad they got a well-deserved spa day. Second: this should remind everyone that celebrities look so great in large part because of regular visits to a facility like this. Yes, they use X, Y, and Z skincare products, but they can also afford treatments on the regular, a nutritionist, a personal trainer, etc., and they're expected to spend on those things, too. So don't beat yourself up if you don't look like a Kardashian just because you can't afford to spend thousands every month on treatments.

  • It's crazy to see how much the cosmetics/care industry thrives and makes massive amount of profits on women's insecurities... Like half of this video at least was about anti-aging. But it's more than okay (and absolutely normal) to age. It's ok to have wrinkles. It's okay to not look 20 when you're in your 30s. A human body is made to age, and not really made to go through 5000 different treatments that probably cost a fortune but don't really make any difference. Also, this is very much a gender-specific thing - not many men go and get a spa treatment to relax, or use anti-aging products, or worry about how they look that much. You're beautiful no matter your age ladies!

    @flowerbeam22@flowerbeam222 жыл бұрын
    • 100% agreed! Honestly, the biggest reason I watched this video was to see how much crap the spa people fed the moms. I don't blame the mom's, it's easy to believe things when a professional tells them to you, but as a nurse I was rolling my eyes at SO many things the spa people told them. Some of the treatments/ingredients were legit, but a huuuuge portion of them were nonsense buzzwords that aren't going to do anything for the skin besides maybe feeling soft for the rest of the day. Exactly like you said, profiting off insecurities. I'm glad the mom's seemed to have fun and enjoy themselves, I guess that's what matters, but I hate that the beauty industry dupes people like this. P.S. - hyperbaric oxygen chambers are supposed to be a *medical* treatment for very specific conditions. Oxygen toxicity is a real thing and these people are just throwing people in there willy nilly like it's no big deal, that's dangerous.

    • Agreed. I'm glad the ladies got some time to just hang out, have fun, and relax. The number of times they used words like detox and other pseudoscience terms that imply our bodies cannot manage toxins on their own is a little annoying. @darknebula7@darknebula72 жыл бұрын
    • The abundance of toxins there are today, your body can't manage it all. That's why there are so many immune disorders. It has been proven the sulfates kill good bacteria in your gut, hurting you overall in the long run and causing you to get cancer easier. So imagine all the other things that could be causing issues with your body inside and out. To think all the unnatural products we have aren't affecting us, and that something can't help you detox is a bit ridiculous. Just like asbestos was supposedly okay, and then it was proven it's not. once more scientific studies come out you'll start seeing how much shit is stored in our body. It' is a fact that fat cells hold toxins as well. You can help your body process, even taking vitamins helps your body detox, which is natural. A lot of people do not get the real nutrition they need in parts of the world. You can help your body detox but it may not be as extreme as the beauty industry is making out to be. Kind of like a doctor prescribing high blood pressure medicine the rest of your life instead of telling you to change your diet and exercise more (of course despite issues that do not have to do with weight or diet, but most people with high BP is weight and diet related). Out bodies can manage toxins but to think the abundance we experience day in and day out is manageable is a bit silly. It has been proven that we have micro plastic in our blood even. This is from scientific studies, not someone random person. Of course people pick and choose what suits their life styles.

    • @@tinntinnamp some of the things you mentioned are true. There are toxins that get into the body. But the things you listed have NOT been proven to be treatable by ANY external skincare routine. Seeing them so hard on themselves for having wrinkles, cellulite, etc, is difficult-- especially knowing younger girls might be seeing this. (And as a disabled person, sometimes taking a shower is self-care. Self-care is just whatever you do to take care of your physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual wellbeing.) But there's so much social pressure to be skinny and smooth and forever young, and there's so much pressure to go go go and constantly work, I don't blame them. It's just hard to see. • Like some other people in the replies, I feel conflicted about this episode. On the one hand these women deserve to be pampered, they deserve to do things that makes them feel good about themselves, they're also allowed to have negative feelings about themselves and their bodies, however I still find it grating to listen to these women's negative self-talk. I've always felt like there's a pressure on women to always look their best, but there is also a pressure on women to talk themselves down, so that they don't appear "too pleased with themselves." I just think this is something that this video could have been more aware of, and maybe not have interpersed so much self-deprecation in this video because it's not helping anyone; it doesn't make them "relatable" and it can be directly harmful to people who struggle with body image.

  • I want to address some of the comments here. "There's nothing wrong with wanting to change your body" is a common statement in this comment section. But, that isn't actually true when you are voluntarily putting what you are doing on display for a huge audience to see and hear. Expressing to everyone (including a lot of women and young girls) that these women wish to look younger, want to get rid of cellulite etc, and NOT bringing up another perspective/adding some kind of disclaimer in the edit, THAT can in fact be hurtful. This has nothing to do with, for example, Rachel wanting to get rid of cellulite on her body, but it does have everything to do with the fact that a worryingly large amount of girls and women feel pressure to change their own bodies in similar ways. The Try Moms/Try Guys production team haven't done anything objectively wrong - I just wish they had taken the step towards body positivity that is lacking in today's media. On a personal note, I developed an eating disorder and exercise addiction when I was 14, and it was partly due to me devoting a lot of my mindspace to non-body-positive influencers and content, and not knowing that there were successful happy people out there with different mindsets. Showing that there are different perspectives and experiences really does make a difference. (That's why I want the Try Moms/Try Guys team to showcase this as well

    • It's haunting how American liberals have co-opted actual leftist body positive and body neutral theory and "My body, My choice" rhetoric into validating and justifying the capitalist machine that is the beauty industry which is BASED on the oppression of women from the women who make the products to the women who buy them. There needs to be analysis of the bigger picture of oppression and how intersectionality plays into all of this and yet liberals as politically capitalist will conveniently make it about an issue of individuality.

  • I do stand by self care especially when you’re feeling anxious or depressed as it can help your mental health, but I also like to think that ageing is a privilege. But I think that just comes from personal experience as I didn’t think I’d be alive at this age so now when I catch a grey hair or a new wrinkle forming I do cringe slightly at the sight due to society’s pressure to look young thin and beautiful and then I remember that I was told I wouldn’t reach past the age of 25 (I’m now 33) so ageing for me is such an amazement and I find it beautiful. Those wrinkles, scars, cellulite and stretch marks tell your story and I find that truly wonderful.

  • Note: totally get this is my opinion and I love skincare stuff but this is my opinion for this video: This is one of the videos I feel 50/50 about, it doesn’t feel as empowering in a way, instead of discussing how it’s natural to age, to have wrinkles and have cellulite, it’s instead about using expensive products that use buzzwords and pseudoscience. I completely understand having insecurities and love the discussion about what happens to the skin and hair after having kids, it just doesn’t feel like it fits the try guy brand and doesn’t feel like it’s doing much of anything for the viewer. In the try guys get red carpet facials it felt more educational in a way and didn’t just feel like a video about spending money for a brief change in skin. Instead it wouldve been cool for it to be about what they AS MOMS can do in their day to day life to encourage self care and normalize taking time for yourself in a way that is cost effective and time effective, like discussing products that are available at regular stores and things someone can do for their skin that isn’t spending $300 on a single cream. I liked the idea of self care through this but it would’ve been more meaningful to discuss burnout as a parent and what self care means more deeply considering they mentioned how self care they do is more of survival and hygiene.

I know Ariel was joking about the amount too but "functional" alcoholicism is a very real and dangerous thing and if mothers have to rely on wine to get through the day, there is some serious flaws in the way we don't systematically support moms.
