I invent and build stuff like this all the time. Been doing it for 50 years. This is well thought out, robust, and an attractive , uncomplicated design. Thanks for the inspiriation.
That was probably the best pull out bed system I’ve seen for the Tacoma by far especially when it comes to camping,
yea pop up table on gas struts for more counter space looked awesome
I agree.
How the he'll does that taco pull all that extra weight lol

...for any pickup, like my 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 8' bed.
I've been a builder for 45 years and I must say, that's a very well thought out, highly precise, ultimate truck drawer build I've ever seen. If ever your in Central Oregon, I'd love to check it out..
Nice, but it is lacking an adjustable support leg. You are asking for big trouble not supporting a long leverage arm.
I do see you standing on it to prove a point. Don't be lazy. Install a support leg. It will then look complete.
@@robertcornelius3514 good point. It does look incomplete without your opinion to add support.
@@nightb4thestorm , my mentor is Ron Swanson. All things made need support.
You only need a leg if you use shit hardware. shs and bearings will hold up just fine.
Absolutely not in any life can I ever imagine letting myself get locked in that drawer hahahaha great build!! 💯
If there's a competition for overlanding drawer system, this would definitely take the gold medal. The best I've seen!
Best set of truck drawers I’ve seen on you tube
You cleaned up with this one! Well done! Looks fantastic
Very impressive, Sam. Detailed thought process. And pretty to boot.
That design is pure genius! Well done.
Those struts for counter space was mind blowing, amazing build
Very well thought out and solid build! Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely outstanding! Hope to use some of your ideas when I build mine. Kudos!
Excellent! One of the best! Brilliant design! Thanks for sharing!
Simply unbelievable! The best use of space I have ever seen. Thanks so much for sharing! 👍
Best home made system I've seen, nice work!
This is super cool. Very very well done. I will be saving this video to keep in mind when I build mine.
Super clean and well built...nicely done.
BEST PROJECT DOCUMENTAION I HAVE EVER SEEN. LOVE YOU DRAWER SYSTEM..
Great well thought out work. I love it when excellent craftsmen share their skills and ideas. Hope you have many happy experiences with your system.
great job, love the ball bearing and steel tubing glides and lower half draw holding the cooktop.
Very well executed and thoroughly thought out. Great job. You should definitely bring your idea to market!
Awesome! Are there people that just leave a 👎🏻 on every video they see? 👍🏻 👍🏻
This is the best low profile drawer set up I’ve seen and you still have plenty of room to sleep in your camper
Very nice setup. Good use of space and designed well.
The skateboard bearing idea was great. I'm probably going to steal that and tell my friends it was my idea. Thank you.
Talk about innovation. Heck of a set up man. Just got my Tacoma a couple days ago. and I’m excited for the adventures ahead.
Most professional DIY system I've seen. Well done man
Good build well thought out. I like the bearings and square tubing.
Man. That drawer system is dope as hell
I am needing one and I really like how you did yours. It's what I've been looking for and you did a great job!
Best build I've seen. Good work!!
Just beautiful work! You are so very talented.
I really liked how you designed and built this. It will last a long time! Good job.
There are some gold tier ideas in there man. Fantastic work.
Hello everyone, and thank you for your interest in this little creation of mine! So far I have had 8 nights of winter camping usage out of this setup, and overall, it's been amazing. In testing, I have come across a few things that could use improvement in future versions, and I'm sure I'll find more. At this point, I'm still too stoked on adventuring to confine myself to my shop, and I have decided to take this summer to give it a thorough test with some offroad test time. I will be returning in the fall to build a number of improved versions for sale, and that number will be determined by your interest! For those truly interested, please email me at sam@kampdrawers.com, and I'll include you on the mailing list for the fall. Note: I will only be building drawers to fit 2nd and 3rd gen Long Bed (6') Toyota Tacomas. No custom work. I'll most likely post updates in the form of adventure vlogs in the meantime. Cheers!
Great build. But I think I died when I saw you get put away in that drawer. (gasp, i can't breathe).
No short bed (5’) bed version??☹️
@@davehill7484 That would be the next phase. I realize that the majority of Tacomas on the road have the short bed, so it would be worthwhile and relatively easy for me to adapt it at some point. Or I might build a few of both this fall. Depends on interest!
What about the plans ? Can we purchase them ? Lmk thanks .
Where did you get that wedge ax? I've been looking for it for a while now. Didn't want to bug you with something I could find with a basic google search.
Nice simple build. Very useful. Well done.
Awesome job. Really cool. I watched the build video 1st. I am impressed, and glad that you made this follow-up video.
I just got so Claustrophobiac!!! Great build.
Good job! Thanks for sharing your build!
Excellent job, very well thought out.
Good job! I like the use of skateboard bearings.
Fantastic design and build, you gave me tons of ideas for my build. Thanks!
Super cool. I love the guest room too.
Great job Sam...impressive work.
Really sick man. I can appreciate the planning and design this took. Nice work. I'm subbed 👍
I like the led strip lights on the camper shell glass!
My decked system wastes a ton of space. Great to see someone with a solution that is actually smaller and finds ways to fit more things. Super cool!
Great craftsmanship skills man. TW thread is amazing. I am currently building GFC style canopy, once done - will sure start working on my drawer system. Had in mind to have 2 drawers - one is pull out kitchen, second one is just for tools/recovery gear. Cannot wait to plan out my project and get to it! Thanks for inspiration!
Terrific design and construction, Sam. The quality is first cabin. Thanks! Now... a couple of drawers for the Rubicon...
This looks like a great match w/ some add ons for my Silverado! Doing a lot of research for the best options.
Really great job!!! I love the features. I also watched your video of the build. Great job on everything. You should definitely make this for others. I plan on making one for myself in the near future. Again, GREAT JOB!
I think you did an amazing job! Two thumbs up!!
Nice job with the drawers. I've truck camped for a long, long time and I think the drawer sleeping platform is the best I've used. Adding a tarp or Slumberjack off the end of the bed makes a nice large dry area.
That is exactly what I want for my '03 Tacoma TRD Offroad , Excellent design and build.
Very cool. best built and design I have seen yet. Would love to see more detail about the design.
This looks super solid nice work man
Tnx for showing, love the hole setup
Nice Job Dude! Covers everything you need!
'Great Job', very impressive, and as others have stated that your project is the best one seen, and I totally agree!
Really nice build! Planning something very similar for my Tundra. The custom slides are a great money saver since those run $2-300.
Great build! I’ll definitely be emailing you about purchasing one for my long bed Tacoma, thanks.
Great craftsmanship. Good luck
Yes, I want one! Exactly what I'm looking for.
Hi Peter! Give me an email at sachou@gmail.com
Hey Sam, greetings from a neighbour just north of the 49th! Fantastic job, VERY nicely done. I am duly impressed with the attention to detail and to the finishing touches. As stated below, coming from a bloke who has been building stuff for decades, this is easily one of the best set-ups I have seen. If they ever open our borders, p'raps we will meet on the trail somewhere Stay safe, be well....
Awesome video and design! I have an 04 Taco that I'm going to be building a deck platform for. Impressive
Nicely done, pretty tight design.
i bet he had fun planning this out. Like Batman's utility belt 👍
Grat built...I love it the simplicity of the whole thing, makes life easier. It would be interesting to know how you deal with your water issue. Storage-wise!
Wow! Love it! We want something like this for our tiny camper
Very cool set up!
Really awesome job but I got a chuckle from your silverware drawer that had enough utensils for Thanksgiving dinner 👍
Excellent build.
Amazing work!!! It is a work of art !!!
What a well though out system. Good Luck to you!
Excelent D.I.Y camper. Very inspiring. Congratulations. Cheers from Brazil.
Love it! I have always wanted a "go-kitchen"!
Absolutely amazing job! Needs power and water!
Thank you! Power is in the truck topper where it's needed, and water is along the bed rails in a Waterport pressurized jug!
Great job! Very cool design.
Nice set up! Well done.
Love it man!!!! Great job and great video!
Square tubing and skateboard bearings is super smart solution.
Wow that looks amazing - you making those for sale is pretty cool! I can’t believe you fit in that slide out.
Good job Sam 👏🏽 👍🏼 👌🏽
At least you know you can smuggle a body to the middle of nowhere if you have to. Seriously... I like what you have done with your drawer system. For my DCLB TRD OffRoad, I have been designing a system with two 4 foot drawers allowing me a 2 foot compartment at the front of my bed where I can mount a pair of smittybilt air compressors and a pair of 2.5 gallon air tanks plus related plumbing and electrical for an OBA system forward of the wheel wells, I plan on putting a pair of "house batteries" and behind the wheel wells, I am just going to have storage compartments with removable lids. I have long used a chuck box for camp kitchen, but I may have to swipe a few storage ideas from you. Very nicely done.
Love the hide a body option.
My first ever comment on a video, I am totally inspired and in awe of this excellent build, and 2 very well put together video's. My Volvo XC70 wants the same.. Well done Sam!
Best build I seen yet!
great job ! I took the lazy way out... Overlanding !!
Inspiring me to build one for my 91 4Runner. Thanks dude!
Dude, this is the most legit setup I've seen yet!
Holy cow. You did it right. Love it.
Very awesome! That's very similar to what I want for my truck. Ideally, the storage and kitchen drawers would be a tiny bit shallower - maybe with a height just enough to fit the camp stove. Then, on top of this I want individual full length bed slides for each side. The slide over the kitchen would allow easy access to storage items like camp chairs, luggable loo, fire pit (or propane pit depending on the location and season), etc. The slide over the storage drawers would have the fridge, solar power generator, and propane tank(s). All this would have to fit in between my total chaos bed stiffeners. No need for sleeping platform in the bed because we have an RTT. Also thinking of making mine out of 80/20 for some weight savings and because I don't own the tools for working with pieces of wood that large.
That’s so sick. Great ingenuity
I would love to see some plans. Sweet setup Sam!!
Sweet build!
Great job very well built!
Great job dude!! Thanks for sharing. Some inspiration for my own rig.
Pretty sick setup.
Dude, this is clean, very well thought out, you most definitely have skills
Sam, looks like I will be using a number of your ideas to my Tacoma build. In addition to your system, I will be incorporating a dual floor slide above the drawers to help in loading equipment, coolers & etc. Thanks again
You did a very fine job of this build, Sam! Precision build and nice high tech finish on front. Love it the meticulous organization of everything inside, and dividers, brilliant! I have the same stove. Camp Chef Everest puts out 20,000 BTU per burner - one of the highest. On sale on Amazon for $72. Best stove for quick heating. I also use it at home for wok cooking which this pathetic electric home stove does not do. Love the glides. I would add a set of aluminum legs to the stove end of the glide - always stabilizes stove and puts less stress on the glides, esp in windy conditions. Never hang the propane bottle. Adds a lot of stress to the connecting pins. Find a solution to support the bottle. The truck can carry 200 lbs, but you pay a price in gas. You may want to experiment with 80/20 struts for frame and light plywood sheets inside. You will drop weight by half and save gas which pays for it. There is a company called TNutz that also sells extruded aluminum cheaper. If you want to know how to use it, see Humble Road van builds. You will pick up some good ideas on materials for finish as well from this channel and an amazing number of ideas and small tips.
Thanks for the advice. But the suggestion to "Find a solution" is actually a lot more difficult than everybody seems to think. I might later incorporate some form of auxiliary leg that would be stored separately, but finding a method to attach it to where it needs to go will be a challenge, especially in a way that will be laterally stable, given it is supporting something that is on a slide that wants to move side to side. Coming up with something that folds in would be even more difficult for the aforementioned reason, compounded with the lack of space in the assembly already. Adding in a telescoping mechanism would further add complexity and size. And with it comes the complications of adjustment for varied terrain height. Realize that right now, I am adding a spacer under the drawer that rests the assembly on the tailgate, tripling the supporting lever arm, which reduces the moment of force by a significant amount. Not saying it's foolproof or bombproof, but compromises were made for the sake of convenience and simplicity - those two aspects being the ethos of this build. A support for the bottle would be much more trivial to design. However, I have already looked over the manual, and it did not state anywhere explicitly that it needs to be supported. The only consideration for bottle placement was to never invert the bottle. I'm aware of 80/20 and have worked with it before (see my motorcycle bike rack), but adding the cost would be a bit much, in addition to the extra engineering involved with it. The plywood I'm using is already relatively lightweight. See DECKED. They engineered a solution using composite plastic and a strategically braced steel skeleton. Sounds light. But how much does it also weigh? Also ~200lb. I take criticism very seriously. I've learned from many a mistake during my time on this planet. And it's resources like KZhead that allow me to shortcut my learning by sharing from the collective knowledge of others. This is the impetus for making and sharing this video in the first place - to add to that collective knowledge. I'm not stubborn. I have thought these things through already. I'm the son of an Asian structural engineer who is the grand master of criticizing my work and life choices, so I can take suggestions from those older and wiser. He was actually the one who came up with the tailgate prop solution, and signed off on it from a structural standpoint afterwards. Yes, my drawers have sagged a bit with regular use over these couple years, but I have other solutions for those problems that don't involve adding legs.
On second thought, I've now decided to let you know how pissed off I am about this comment. Do not insult my age like I'm a child.
