  • So Sanderson tells Jenkins basically go away; we have no room for you on this squad. Jenkins goes, makes the finals and pins Sanderson's golden boy. Hollywood would reject scripts like that for being too unrealistic and unbelievable!

  • This is one of the greatest finals matches of all-time. Hands down best payback/revenge match ever. Bubba showed Cael Sanderson how wrong he was. I still tell people about this match. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Bubba served this up on ice in Antarctica with penguins carrying him like Boreas, the Greek god of the cold north wind and the bringer of winter. Anytime I feel down, I watch this match. Don't get me wrong, I think Cael is the GOAT and David Taylor is one of the best ever. It's not about that. It's about the belief I see in Bubba. Look at him, he knows what's going to happen. He's the only one who knows. Everyone else doesn't have a clue. But look at Bubba, he isn't surprised. He knew it would happen this way. Greatest NCAA Championship revenge match of all-time.

How about Cael showed up at Penn State in 2010, Bubba was already red shirting. Cael comes in, Bubba was still on the team, Cael favors David Taylor, Bubba bounces, then Taylor loses to Bubba? How about that? Yep. If it was about "team rules", why was Bubba on the team in 2010? Cael didn't start 2009-2010 as the head coach. Once Cael took over, did Bubba get booted? Nope. • Yes, this happens a lot. Parents will purposely hold a kid back so they graduate high school at 19, then redshirt at 20, and come into their freshman year turning 21. It was always though that the physical maturity of that one year would give them advantages throughout their careers. If you look back a lot of wrestlers of that era were older, like the Palmer brothers, for example.

I'd take that trade any day, and from being around Bubba and DT both a fair bit in the past, I think DT was the better teammate on and off the mat. Much more dedicated. BJ had 1 good moment. Good for him. Cael & staff seem to be doing just fine.

    • @@unclerico7271 Got it - DT of course is an historically great wrestler on our stage and the world stage. The “failed” part had no real connection to DT I am aware of - it was meant for the fact that I feel they (the new PS staff at the time) failed Jenkins when he was theirs to coach. I may be missing some info here of course and maybe you can enlighten us on what efforts were made to invest in Jenkins when Cael and Co. came in to take over? Overall, Cael has been a fantastic coach at PS and I am a fan of theirs - just trying to look objectively at the Jenkins situation. I love that a coach came in to PA and showed that they could dominate college wrestling with largely PA/Jersey homegrown kids.

      @Charactermatters650@Charactermatters6502 жыл бұрын
    • @@Charactermatters650 Well it depends on what you mean by "invested" in Jenkins I suppose... He was Uber talented and made a final in 08 or 09. But as a coach yourself you have experienced that kid/man that was very very talented, but his skills were hyper illuminated when he was under the lights. The "spotlight wrestler". 24/7 Attitude matters in a D1 room. DT, on the other hand, was a blue chip recruit that bought into Cael 100% and originally committed to Iowa State to wrestle for him. As a redshirt Taylor had his way w Bubba 75% of the time, was more committed (in staff's opinion), better in the classroom... all that nuance mattered to Cael. BJ won that match(ironically with a DT go-to technique), but PSU still won the team title, 40+ points ahead of ASU.... my point was, you said they failed w Bubba. I disagree, DT was beating him in the room in the short term, was a better teammate (at least in staff's opinion), better in the classroom, more committed (all subjective of course), but BJ had his moment, and it was epic. We just disagree on the "failed Jenkins" part of it. They also thought long term. They're still mat side w DT at W&O games while Bubba is kinda fighting mma?? I think they made the right call, even if that was an historically embarrassing moment. But I appreciate your knowledge and contributions to the sport. Not sarcasm, I mean that sincerely brother.
