This is part of the reason idk if I want to bother transitioning over to Mac. 🤷♀️
Do it, you wont regret it
that is so true
3:00 It isn't impossible, you can just use your up and down arrow keys to preview everything in the folder, without selecting all of them
IKR.... I was so confused about what exactly he wanted to say cuz it didn't make sense...
What a noob 😂 only a pc user will complicate something so simple
Essentially in Mac OS, it follows the order of the files in the finder window, so if you go right right right and hit the edge, it cant go any further unless you press down and keep going However, in windows, you can just keep going right and it'll automatically move to the next row and keep going regardless of what view mode you are in ( list or icons ) so in conclusion in windows moving between the previews has nothing to do with the order/distribution of the files in the window, which makes much more sense IMO
Technically!!! If you put them in list mode you can preview them all with just the down arrow. So many options so little time ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
Yup, you're using the arrow keys to merely select the item in Finder. Just act like the Preview window isn't there, the arrow keys are focused on the Finder window behind it, and when you highlight the next item, the Preview window will refresh to the new item.
Been using MacOS for years and yet I learned a few things. Thank you!
Great to hear! Thanks for watching
What disappoints me the most about MacOS is how all these awesome features are so difficult to find. There's nothing in the UI to indicate that they exist, which means that you can spend your entire life thinking that they don't.
honestly i think this is better than the alternative, which is when something like android gives you a billion popups telling you what gestures/actions you can do. thats the most annoying thing!
@@breadone_ there are more than just two ways to do a UI. On Windows and Linux, keyboard shortcuts are shown next to the name of the action in a more dull text colour. Even a few apps that run on MacOS do this (such as VS Code). It's just Apple that hides any hint of complexity, thereby hiding the fact that MacOS is somewhat possible to use efficiently. Of course giving a billion pop-ups is a terrible idea, but to suggest that it's the only alternative to having a woeful lack of affordances is simply not true.
It’s a part of the Mac’s philosophy, that makes you like the device even more every time you discover something new and useful. It’s a feeling of something new every time.
@@miguelguthridge no? on macos there are also keyboard shortcuts listed, just in the menu bar, where youd go to look at the available actions anyway
In the top bar you can see each action with the corresponding shortcut on the right side
I'm just happy to see people try. I used Windows from about 1993 through 2009. I wanted to try something different and switched to Mac at home, stayed there until 2021 and switched back to Windows due to hardware issues (on a 12 year old machine, that's not surprising). Now I will say, I work in IT. Computers have been my thing since I was under 10 years old. I've used most flavors of Windows, MacOS, Linux, BeOS, etc and enjoy it and am good at memorizing layouts/keyboard shortcuts - so I'm not your average user. That said, I definitely recommend exploring OS's. Plus if there's something you don't like, don't blame the OS or say it sucks right away just because its new. Find out how to solve your problem, and you may even discover you can tweak it or do something even more powerful with a utility/shortcut. This is why I love computers, I don't get frustrated by them often, I learn them! As to CTRL+TAB between tabs/windows, this is useful for those that don't use the mouse as much. Once you build up muscle memory for keyboard shortcuts, you'd be amazed what you can do without leaving the keyboard.
swap to mac and start using WAY more shortcuts just because start using trackpad
Tip: if you enable "reduced motion" in accessibility settings, switching between workspaces feels way snappier and responsive.
This. I only learned about this a few weeks ago and I’ve been using a Mac for years. Wish I knew about it earlier.
This just makes things feel jerky and janky if you don’t have a top of the line mac. Would not recommend.
the downside is that most website (if implemented properly) using animations etc will just be static
@@ebubeawachie it's fair I didn't know that. I got this m1 pro max from work and it works perfectly there

Here's another trick on the "Get Info" panels. In addition to these: - Cmd+I (open one panel per file) - Ctrl+Cmd+I (open a panel for the group of files) There's one more: - Cmd+Opt+I (*toggle* a panel that *updates dynamically* as you change the selection) This is the one I use most often.
What could this be useful for?
@@arty5906 The finder doesn’t automatically show the size of folders (Cmd+J allows you to select the option to show folder sizes, but it only works on the current Finder window, not on all windows) but if you are in the process of selecting folders so you can find out how much space they collectively take up, this dynamic info window becomes useful in that manner.
I've used Macs since 2015 but used a Windows laptop for about 1 1/2 years and upgrading to a MacBook Pro in 2022. After watching this brought me back to some stuff I ended up forgetting. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work
This video is great, thank you! I recently switched from Windows to Mac and your video's have helped!
My favorite is still that when you have an option. Say in the menu bar, and youngish alt. It slightly changes the action. For example. If you hold alt while clicking reboot, sleep or shutdown, it removes the three dots and skips the dialog to make sure you really want to. If you hold alt for ‘about this mac’ it changes to systeminfo. On the right side of the menu bar when you hold alt and click WiFi!p, Bluetooth or sound, you’ll see extra info. For it comes in handy to hold alt and “WiFi settings” changes to “network settings”
In the touchpad settings you can also enable a 3-finger down gesture to do what cmd+down does and it also works when hovering on the icon in the dock!
Woww i totally missed this option. Thanks!
yes!
I have used this for years. Invaluable when you have lots of browser windows
3:00 you can use up and down arrow in list view to preview things.
5:00 You can also right-click (or control click) on the name of the folder in the window bar, it will open up a context menu which shows all parent folders. all in all, great video. as a mac user for a while I was blown away by the first tip already haha
Thank you for watching
I always use cmd + up and down arrow to navigate through folders, which is different from the previous/next icons
@@mvelectronique yup, that's also a thing i think you could also open folders and files with Cmd+O
2:05 you can access this using a gesture too, mission control is a four finger swipe up, this view you showed is a four finger swipe down, just like ctrl up and down
0:37 BTW, there’s no need to hard press, when a window from the app is in focus you can swipe down with three fingers on the trackpad and all the windows from that app will appear.
Four fingers
You gotta enable that manually
Yup, if anyone is looking it's on Trackpad gestures > more gestures > App exposé
To go to the parent directory of the current folder, use Cmd+Up, and to open a directory or file, use Cmd+Down. Combine this with typing the first letters of a file/folder name to select it, and right/left to preview folder contents, and you can navigate a directory tree pretty quickly.
Ty!! So much❤the first one is so useful!
Love how they call a File browsing tool the 'FInder'. Apple is really creative with naming. Just like the 'dynamic island'.
To be fair, Finder came first, windows explorer came after that
Thank you for making this video It really helps alot
As someone who uses Sidecar every day, the Option+Brightness shortcut is SO HELPFUL!!!
You just got a new subscriber. I found a number of the shortcuts useful as I'm new to MacOS.

Ayeeee, thanks for watching
I’ve been using macs professionally for over 20 years and still learned a bunch of tips for this vid. Good job!
Thank you for watching
@3:11 you can use the up and down key to see the images in preview mode if the Finder is in list mode. You can hover your cursor over the green expand button on the top left of any finder / safari window and it will give you an option for split screen view. Very very handy on a larger screen to do multiple tasks.
Men your tips have been a lot more useful that other videos that I’ve seen. Since the first one! Thank you
Happy to hear that! Thank you for watching
Been using osx for more than 10 years and I still learned new things here. That remove background part - goddamn!
I’ve been using Mac OS since it was still named after Cats. I didn’t know most of the things in this list. Thank You
Uu nice, thank you for watching
It’s impressive how MacOS is both a very intuitive, easy to learn OS, and so full of advanced shortcuts to do complex stuff.
ikr :D
"shortcuts" is a stretch, these functions should be readily available via menu options (like in Windows)
Not intuitive at all. Very messy, 3 ways to do the same thing and none is good. Tab managing is a complete nightmare. Installing apps? You call it intuitive? If I could have the hardware of a MacBook with windows my life would be better. Also win 11 kinda looks better. (All subjective opinion, but I just don't agree with you and it's the internet so... I leave my 3 cents)
And yet the MOST complex stuff is done with Microsoft Windows. Windows rules the world, with a 90% market share.
Its impressive how religious apple users are, and the sad thing is that it is not much different from other products and your wasting money on an overpriced religion.
As a mac user for more than 2 years now i did not know many tricks u just showed in this vid. Keep up the good work.😄
Thanks, will do!
I've been a macOS X user for years, but before that I was a mac classic user for OS 6, 7 and 8; I learned a couple of things. well done!

Been using Mac for 17 years, I actually learned a couple of tricks I didn't know about! Thanks :)
Ayee thank you for watching
This is the big issue with MacOS. A lot of great functions are hidden behind shortcuts. Which is great if you know them. But for most people it's inaccessible for 17 years. ;)
In the finder, command click on the folder title next to the prev/next, and it will show a dropdown menu to navigate to any of the ancestor folders. This also works in most apple documentbased applications.
I've used MacOS for 25 years. And I learned (and rediscovered) some nice stuff from this. Control+Down arrow - can't believe I didn't know that. Thanks a lot Bog.
Cheers! Happy to hear that
I've been using Mac OS for about a decade, and I did not know about 90% of these features 😆
Uuu nice
This just confirms that a lot of skill and muscle memory built into me as a (pro) Windows user would make a transition to MacOS quite difficult. Even tried many Linux desktop versions, but Windows is still the one I'm most proficient in and will stay so I suppose...
Same, but with macOS for me. I know Windows (up to 10) very well, but I’d feel like a novice compared to how I work with macOS.
That's funny, because that's me but linux
We're all different, Yet we're all so Similar
Exactly. But one starts to realize how limited MacOS is, especially when he tries to use MS Office/engineering apps/games. Not to mention the need to install numerous 3rd party apps to do basic things right (apps like Rectangle app, RedQuits, Blue Harvest, etc..) - the functionality, which you get with Windows right out of the box.
@@alex.maxwell Depends on the person honestly, especially your profession. As an editor, I’d hate to have Photoshop quit entirely upon closing the active window for instance. Windows is certainly less “limiting”, but it comes with inconsistency that really hinders it for my personal taste.
that remove background trick... dawg ur a real one. i've been using macOS since 2021 and i've never knew any of these things
Thanks dawg
3:00 it works for up and down arrows if it's a list view
00:20 another tip: you can also hard press on the closed apps, it will show all recent files from this app
two things: 1. you didn’t mention cmd+space (spotlight search) it’s super useful and can even be used to calculate stuff 2. my favorite view in finder is the columns, as it gives you a good understanding of the folder structure
Why use Spotlight when you have Raycast/Alfred?
I endorse both of these. I use spotlight to launch apps, find files, and search the web. And I’ve always used column view in finder. Way more intuitive than a standard page view.
Yeah, but everybody knows about those. Not everybody knows about the things he showed in the video.
Pro-er tip for #1, Raycast is to Spotlight like Spotlight is to Windows Search. Amazing app.
This has since become redundant because new Apple keyboards now come with a dedicated Spotlight key, but using it as a calculator is a nifty trick I’ve been using since 2004 and obviously still works. ;) Also, much like in the iPhone Search box, you can also use it to convert units (measurement units, temperature, currency, etc.) in the same fashion. Type whatever value and abbreviation, and boom, the Spotlight results box just spits out a few equivalent values in other popular units.
That hard press trick is cool, I never knew about it
I liked the video for the tips. I subscribed for the humour. Love the content!
Awesome, thank you!
for the preview in the list view in finder, you can just select one and press space and then use the up and down arrow key to go through all of them
some of the trick i know but i loved this video 🥰 very creative presentation buddy
Ayee thanks! 👍
0:58 this was eye-opening for me. I've been an avid Mac-user for 10 years and I didn't know. I've even used this feature accidentally with Mission Control but didn't get behind this. This way you can also open the settings of keyboard and sound with the respective keys. By the way also try clicking items in the menu bar while holding option/alt. For some it shows more information/options.
You're funny! Grazie for all tips I love them
Learned new shortcuts from your video even though using Mac for 10+ years
Nice! Thanks for watching!
COOL VIDEO! THESE LITTLE LEARNINGS IS A I ABSOLUTELY NEED AS A WINDOWS POWER USER TRANSITIONING INTO MAC OS! THANKS! GOTTA KEEP MY MUSCLE MEMORY RENEWED LOL!
I came across your video by chance and after watching it, I was reminded why I never really enjoyed using Mac OS - it's just too complicated for my liking. I appreciate your honest review and the tips you shared, but I also had a similar experience with the mouse vs. trackpad use. It can be frustrating to have to switch back and forth between the two and I wish there was a more seamless experience.
Indescribable is how I'd describe MacOS. A command button, a control button and an option button. I know they're not buttons, they're keys. Coming from Windows, it's Greek to me. And then there's ChromeOS. I'm definitely a novice but why do we need a launcher button? I just want my CAPS Lock button back.
Like, I don’t know, maybe if you could *_touch_* the screen, like you can on most other computing devices nowadays. I don’t get what you mean by complicated. Red button in top left corner of window closes window. Green button expands window to full screen. Anything more useful requires learning a few shortcuts, or just print them , cut them out and attach the clipping to the top of your keyboard. I’ve done this for years to help me remember my keyboard shortcuts. There are plenty of them for each app you use, and plenty of folks who have made cheat sheets for them that you can print.
It’s not complicated, only if you want specific shortcuts. MacOS works much smoother than windows in my experience
your tips are nice, thank you !

These are some pretty good tips for just about any desktop OS. Many of these features are found on Windows and on Linux Mint respectively. (Tho different shortcuts ofc)
On many of those OSes, they aren't even shortcuts, or are promptly displayed to the user. The point of the video is exactly how many of those things are extremely cryptic on macOS.
@@andrebrait What's your point? That all OSes have cryptic things? All I'm saying is I tried a few of em out and turns out they aren't all MacOS specific

You don't need to select images in list view. Just use up/down. Preview follows focused icon, so if You have grid, You can use four arrows to go on grid and preview will follow along.
Also, learn, how Command+Shift+3 and +5 works
There are a few shortcuts in the video that are mostly universal, not specific to the apps you demonstrate with. cmd-` cycles through windows of the current app, ctrl-tab cycles through tabs in a window, and cmd-[ and cmd-] are back and forward. Also not mentioned is that cmd-shift-` and ctrl-shift-tab cycle in the opposite direction.
