    • Things like document preview can be done on Windows too, but it does require an app, being either the MS Power Toys or a third party one. You can choose which functionality you want to enable and can define most shortcuts to functions in PowerToys freely. PowerToys can also do many other things, like reconfiguring your keyboard's key layout; just be careful if you move keys around, as you can end up losing access to some key(s) on your keyboard. Trying to swap two keys and forgetting to redefine both of them is not good...

    • Even though he does not like it, I highly suggest using your applications in full-screen mode. Since I have switched to macOS, I have gone down from three to only one monitor, which works very very well for me. Now, I can simply switch between applications when they are in full-screen just like I would on my iPad or iPhone. I stay a lot more focused too as I'm not getting distracted by any apps I'm currently not working with. Furthermore, when you need to work with two applications at the same time, just put them into full-screen split view or if it needs to go fast, leave them on your desktop as a window. For small tasks, I only use windows, for example quickly looking through the Finder or checking a password in 1Password, but Safari is always in full screen, just like my code editor and applications that I'm working on more than just a few minutes. It works very well for me, so, it might work for you too

      @SOTP.@SOTP.2 ай бұрын
    • @@SOTP. Yes, I know you can use multiple desktops on Windows, but these are no replacements for fullscreen applications. Plus, it's not the intended way on Windows. This becomes clear when you compare both systems. On macOS, the maximize button will put a window into fullscreen mode and therefore open it in a new space (virtual desktop but not really a virtual desktop). You can also toggle the fullscreen mode of any application by clicking Ctrl + Cmd + F or Fn + F. Switching between them becomes also very easy with the trackpad. This is not the case on Windows. On Windows, maximizing a window will maximize it on the same desktop, so you would need to manually move it to another virtual desktop to have the same effect. Windows just added virtual desktops as a feature to organize windows for certain situations, for example, to have one desktop for work and one for personal stuff. You can do this on macOS as well, but mostly you use spaces (virtual desktops) for fullscreen or split-screen applications and that's where macOS excels compared to Windows. That's also the reason why I switched from three to only one monitor. Because spaces are designed to be used on a single monitor. Working with a MacBook without any external monitors works so great because of this. Windows accepts more use cases, but macOS is far better for laptops

Previews of app windows and quick controls on Dock and Task bar. In Windows I can preview even multiple app windows and quickly play pause music for example directly from the taskbar without opening the app. Super handy and useful. Apple being stubborn even removed the media control from taskbar feature from the new Apple Music app on Windows to give users a Mac like old school vibe. Also missed the useful app specific volume control. I can be in a Zoom or Teams meeting and keep that volume to 10 and open a movie on Netflix and have it at 60 LOL

    • How can such a trivial software feature be patented?

      @jblbasstester6198@jblbasstester61982 ай бұрын
    • @@jblbasstester6198because it is useful, and was just implemented on Aero Snap during Vista development. It was something simple, but very useful, so they patented. No other OS at the time, had the feature, neither XP or Linux. They can patent anything they want. Patent No. 9,423,923, 9,423,938, and 9,423,954 by MS was filled many years ago.

    • Licensing MacOS to other manufacturers like HP or Dell would ultimately ruin its reputation. Yeah, 256GB of storage on the baseline MacBooks today is a joke - but it is incredibly fast storage, exactly enabling the File Preview and Spotlight Search functions to perform so effortlessly fast. MacOS experience is polished precisely because it is curated; and if it isn't curated by Apple themselves anymore, then the quality would drop tremendously. Just look at how many laptops manufacturers like Asus, Acer and Lenovo churn out every year... I reckon that many models per year just create gargantuan amounts of e-waste nobody is talking about.

  • Great video. The good thing about Desktop OSes is as you said the ability to bring many features from the competition. On Windows for example, Powertoys from Microsoft adds similar features like Spotlight Search (which is way better than the built in one), some new options for pictures in the right click menu in explorer and Quicklook.

  • Great animations and production! The green screen / keying could use a little refinement in this one in the edges.. On the subject matter, two topics that could have been mentioned is deleting files with cmd+backspace vs just delete key which is way easier and of course pinning (any) app on top of others which is not available on macOS, plus the fact of windows and app sub windows for dialogue settings etc hiding beneath others and not able to find them especially in multi monitor setups as cmd+tab does not bring them in front.. Keep up the great work!

The "greenscreening" is actually AI rotoscoping, and blurring the background - but you're 100% right, I wasn't really happy how this one turned out either.
