Boeing 737 mad unstable approach and landing in Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery (AEP/SABE)

Hi All!
Today a short video showing a Boeing 737 Classic (probably -300 but it's really hard to define), performing an approach and landing out of any stabilisation criteria. This kind of approaches are leading to many incidents, and should be avoided.
EDIT:
Thanks to one of our subscribers I was able to recognise the airport which is Jorge Newbery airport in Buenos Aires.

  • According to Maximus Aviation, this approach was performed by the crew of Presidential Unit of Argentina's Air Force. The A/C itself is T-04 737-500. The maneuvre was a part of special training, during wich pilots were evaluating operational capabilities of the aircraft type.

    • Really?, Is that for sure?, And why to train in an airport such as Aeroparque rather than other in the outskirts?, this doesn´t sound responsible.

  • Apart from the bank angle this approach looks pretty fun. Maybe it’s not smart to use a 737 but in a small jet i think its fine.

  • Looks like a good landing to me, hit the numbers and centerline, gentle but firm touchdown. The only thing is the unnecessarily very short (or non-existent) final. Should be lined up on the extended centerline like at least the approaching minimums callout. That way the pilot can call out 'continue' if the runway looks clear etc, at least leave a split second to decide if going around or committing to land. Anyway, as the saying goes, "Any landing you can walk away from, and the airplane is intact and ready to fly again (other than normal servicing and refueling), is a good landing!"

  • Pretty sure it's Aeroparque (SABE) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Aerolineas Argentinas has flown all 737 variants, it could be an old video of a -300 series landing.

  • I don't know about the unstable part, but always a little tricky to be rolling out of your final turn over the runway. I always botch an approach like this in FSX, its hard to do and time the turn just right. But I expect it is easy for cowboy pilots and military.

    • So, Boeing and all operators, ALL operators, will set the stabilisation criteria to be met at certain altitude, usually 500 or 1000 feet. Definetely wings level and all manouvering compleated is one of them. Additionaly "bank angle" callout likewise "sinkrate" callout would be an criteria to call an approach an unstable one for most airlines. Unless you were joking ;)

  • Winds permitting, a final like this is a nonissue for true “stick and rudder” pilots.. those with genuine skill… not a good idea for those who usually have white knuckle landings and fight their way through every type check but can recite the POH and FAR’s verbatim. Safety margins cater to least skilled…
