  • My old coach (rip djata) was an old school former heavyweight national amateur standout and decent up and coming pro boxer. His biggest pro win was against an undefeated 20 something and 0 fighter with all 20 kos. He was being called the next joe louis etc. Emmanuel Steward had djatas son on his lap ringside the entire fight which lasted 2 rounds lol! He was a master of the craft. He was literally the hood version of "goodwill hunting" lol. He grew up in thee most rugged streets of philly and got a full boat scholarship to one of the most prestigious schools in the nation (cant remember but it was ivy league) lol straight from a hood public high school and he majored in some ridiculous theoretical math nobs. Not talking trigonometry. I mean one of the most difficult types of mathematics. He used his brilliance to break boxing down cerebrally and referred to it as chess, dancing, math ie physics, and being a drummer with the jab as the high hat. The guy he absolutely decimated was a southpaw (he was undefeated in something like 400 amateur fights and the 15 pro fights he had vs southpaws. He always talked about how much he loved fighting southpaws. His formula was to throw straight right hands but with about 70% power and make em laser like straight down the pike, but always double em up. Double straight right hands half way between a power punch and a jab and throw wide left hooks. It sounds strange but it 100% is kryptonite vs southpaws lol. He absolutely battered and rocked the guy he was supposed to be a stepping stone for so badly cause especially back in the late 60s and 70s guys didnt know how to fight southpaws because there werent alot of southpaws in gyms therefore guys were thrown in having to deal with that completely different angle and look. On the flip side southpaws arent used to fighting rightys that knew how to fight southpaws. They expected them to come with jabs and of course they get accustomed to that so when half jab half power straight right hands come down the pike with wide hard left hooks it messes them up. Interestingly watch carlos baldomir vs zab judah. IDK how TF carlos knew to execute like that given his rough house brawling style but he absolutely put on a clinic of double rights and wide left hooks and beat zab up all night.

He was a black panther (prior to i think Farrakhan and the other guy taking over and turning it into a violent organization) and he fought under the name djata banks early in his pro career. @eliteboxfitness@eliteboxfitness20 күн бұрын
    • @@eliteboxfitness ya, i don't remember if I mentioned that in the fight vs the southpaw he rocked him so badly the guy was so badly rocked and my coach used some slick footwork mixed with a bad mistake from his opponent that he ended up literally behind him (something i didn't mention was he was extremely close friends with marvis frazier and also papa smokin joe frazier. He had pictures of him and joe both with headgear and gloves in the ring as they sparred and trained and joe managed and trained him briefly. He was 6'3" 230lbs and strikingly resembled george foreman. Was absolutely jacked and huge for a heavyweight back then. I believe you can find black and white pics of some of the above from old newspaper clips.) he was from the proper old school fight game. You capitalize on every single advantage and you never allow an opponent off the hook. He threw a bomb of a wide right hook that landed legally on the temple and kod the guy cold lol. I loved djata man he taught me everything i know. He had a saying "you cant possibly know that 2*2=4 unless you're first taught that 1+1+1+1=4". As I learned the fundamentals it rang true. He was full of gems. He talked about thresholds and the mental aspect and how amazing the body is. Like when you train to run for example. Once you learn that you can sprint for 20 minutes you break that mental barrier/threshold and you can basically run indefinitely. Mental stamina equates physical stamina. Freeing your mind of having to think about "ok jabs coming, slip or parry, step drag with the jab now im inside, bob n weave come up with the hook to the temple, body shots coming, let it come and lock elbows to ribs dont reach down with the hands block it with the elbows. Jabs coming parry and inch from the face let it come to you dont reach out to defend. Punch with the opponent if youre a big puncher. Etc etc" those are youre base systems of movement ie fundamentals and 90% of fighting is that. Once you force yourself to act and react with a series of fluid flowing movements that flow from offense to defense and you no longer have to see it consciously, then tell your body what to do and its a trained reaction. That frees up huge amounts of mental processing power and gives the illusion of immense stamina. Guys like James toney. He was out of shape and stopped training but he didnt stop sparring and therefore he was able to fight 12 rounds relatively easily late in his career on just that. Also fighting is anaerobic, meaning you explode for 3 seconds then use footwork or head movement. That causes lactic acid to not go into overload and allows you to go and go and go. Conversely training is aerobic to push your capacity. He always said train aerobically, fight anaerobic. Anyways enough of my rant thanks for the response.

Although sometimes this rule is not applied. It really depends on the regulating body that is sanctioning the fight like wbc or etc.

  • Another overhyped protected boxer that lost. Love seeing this. Boxing fans dont appreciate boxers that chrrty pick in this sport. Good and congrats to guerrero for putting the breaks on that hype job. Black boxers that play it safe are like the cash cows to these promoters even one of the judges took it away from Guerrero. Lemos vs hitchens, disgusting robbery.
