What a beast! Playing a 15-0 major tournament has got to be a rare feat indeed.
I was just wondering when the last time a male champion didn't drop a game?
@@123Jacktu I'm not sure about the last time, but Gaultier won a couple of tournaments(including the British open) in a row without dropping a game during his 2018 run. Coll now is sensational as well.
Awesome 👏
@@123Jacktu Jehangir Khan. World open championship w/o dropping a game
Amazing how its just been repeated by Elias in the Necker Mauritus Open. I had no idea what he was on during that tournament but holy smokes he was godly
Coming back to this in 2023, we need this Paul Coll again. We need this kind of squash again
Paul is such an inspiration and I’m blown away with his development since joining the tour 💪
Paul broke the Egyptian code. Impressive to be the best in this Egypte dominated era...
Yes, he's decoded the Rosetta Stone and enthroned himself in the King's Chamber!
@@gedofgont1006 corny ah
Paul is just a new brand in squash history .... Ali and paul are both respectable and gentlemen
Hear hear. Look at how classy Ali was in defeat, embracing Coll. Both great sportsmen!
All the way from New Zealand 🇳🇿. Congratulations on a second British open title. Your formula for squash is on point all four corners used, fitness is where it needs to be. And a great team who is behind you 100%
Brilliant Paul. You make all Kiwis very proud. Congratulations bro well played & well deserved.
3-0 victory vs farag is crazy! Congrats Coll!
Can we talk about these retrievals from Coll and his beautiful lobs?! The best in the game at the moment!
Paul's worked so very hard for this- congratulations to him, his team and his family!
Impeccable line and length, near clairvoyant anticipation, massive fitness and using all the available geometry of the court: do these things and you too can be British Open champion. Congrats Mr Coll. You've earned this as much as any champ ever did.
The anticipation has improved. It used to be the Egyptians could read him much better than the other way around, but not now.
@@ewallt Agreed, but when you're dictating the rallies, as Coll does so well now, it doesn't really matter if your opponent can read your game, because you'll always have that extra half step of movement in reserve.
@@gedofgont1006 Anticipation makes a difference because it gives you time. He’s gotten much better at disguising his shots. There’s two basic ways of doing that, one is faking one way and doing something else, and the other is setting up the exact same way but being able to hit different shots from the same set up. One shot he’s gotten amazing at his hitting cross courts when under duress in the back of the court. Farag loves to cut off backhand rails, and keep his opponent pinned back, but since Coll can go cross court even under pressure, he has to play more honest. It’s a purple patch right now, everything working. Hope he stays healthy.
@@ewallt Great observations! Enjoy your squash, whatever level you play at. (I'm only a mediocre club level player, but I still love it. )
I'm not sure if I've ever seen such good anticipation. Coll is just everywhere and retrieving everything. Wow.
Wow that first game was big. Very very solid from Coll - each shot good length or width and hardly any mistakes. 👏
Paul Coll is an amazing ambassador for squash. Extremely happy he’s world number 1 :)
Huge respect for Paul Coll! Cheeky comment: "A rare malfunction in the robot." Lol. But not to take anything away from Coll. He just rocks right now.
Coll is playing so simple, he's not looking for nicks, he doesn't have any fancy shots, nothing complicate. But all his basic shots are right on the spot, almost every single time. And his anticipation is at his own level.
Coll quality was just insane throughout the whole tournament ❤️❤️🔥
So long as he beat Asal 3-0 I would have been happy with a close second place :) Not that I have anything specific against Asal like some people, but he has had the better of Coll and I wanted to see Coll overcome him.
Huge respect for Coll! He has been maintaining his consistency! Love to see him play!
That's the thing... he really struggled at Canary Wharf, and has pulled himself back together in a very short span of time.
My two favorite players on the tour.... but I like Ali a tiny little bit more🙂It must be infuriating to play Coll, nothing gets past him, it is truly impressive!
Sometimes openmindedness goes a long way young man - There are many other players on tour that you may wish to be more receptive to
I am a big fan of Ali game style but Coll is currently well beyond anyone. Those forehand drives lobs are perfect.
It’s unbelievable how he never looks out of breath
At the moment, Ali hasn't quite figured out how to play this improved version of Coll. You could see the frustration in his play and his tactics. He even admitted such in his interview at the end, where he said he let the blown opportunity of winning the first game (where he had 2 game balls) affect him mentally in game 2 and, subsequently, the remainder of the match. Coll's ability to use height, on his cross-court lobs (either side) and especially in his lift down the back-hand side along the wall when Ali hits short to the front left, is now so consistent and spot on. Even yesterday, I was taken aback by his width and depth along the forehand wall. He was not afraid to play down the forehand side with Ali. Then, throw in his much improved short game to go along with his already well-known out-of-this world level of fitness and you've got a guy right now playing at the top of his game. As my son said during the match yesterday somewhere in the 2nd game, how do you actually game plan against this guy right now? Where are the weaknesses? How do you break him down?
Good assessment!
Being even more agressive and unpredictable like Ramy use to be.
Being ruder and more confrontational like Asal is the way forward
So impressive by Coll and Farag is a great player also, such class, such sportsmanship. Two worthy finalists.
Congratulations to Paul. Very well deserved!
Versus Asal 3-0, versus Faraq and Coll wins again at 3-0. Like John wrote 15-0 at a major is simply unheard of. This is performance from another planet. Congrats Coll!
Yeah! My favourite player did it again! :D Congrats Paul!
Are you from New Zealand? 😛
@@Sintsoij I'm from Poland. haha! That's really far from new Zealand :D
@@michawozniak5865 haha even though your name gave it away a bit I find ik hard to believe that somebody like the playing style of Paul Coll the most on tour. Or is it it more than just his playing style? His journey never being a super talent but great mental and physical toughness which makes Coll your favorite player?
@@Sintsoij what is a super talent? Paul Coll won the British Open without losing a set. Its impossible without being a great talent. You need hard work no question but for that kind of playing you need to be immense talented. I love the calm playing style of Paul, he never seems to be in a hurry on the court, just flawless.
@@peterhammer6915 fair enough. Yep all credit to him. I think we all know Coll never considered being a super talent in any stage of his career.
Controlled play from Paul, a very good win for him. Both of these guys are great sportsmen.
Never thought I'd see the day where Coll would be regularly easily beating Ali! What a journey
He's still only 5-15 in the head to head. A long way to go, considering they're the same age, but Coll has played many more professional matches than Farag.
I'm a huge fan of Coll and always hoped for it, but realistically didn't think the day would come. Where he is now compared to even a year ago is almost unbelievable.
@@networkn It is indeed. Full credit for working out where he needed to improve and then putting in the hard yards to get the results we're now seeing. I thought Farag looked like he didn't believe he could win from the midpoint of the second game onwards. Amazing really. Not even Mo. Elshorbagy could put Farag in a headlock like that.
@@gedofgont1006 yes agreed. I think it's a sign of someone's character to be willing to take a good look at yourself and make big changes whilst still retaining your good behaviour on court etc.
CONGRATS PAUL COLL!
What a performance by Coll.
Great tight Squash from Coll. Back to the basics and some great retrieving
Yessss!! What a bloody legend, well done Coll!
Impressive run this tournament by Coll. I don’t really enjoy watching Coll play, it’s a rather boring style to me, but I can’t argue with the results. For the last year, he’s flat out been the best player on tour and I don’t even think it’s close how far and away better he is than the rest, Farag included. He’s sent the message that he’s way smarter, fitter, and tougher than all of them right now.
I think the key to enjoying Coll's game is appreciating just how good his shot selection is through the mindset of optimising risk in his favour, and how his tactical preparation is so good you don't have to ask what his game plan was when he comes off court.
@@M0odez Yeah, I hear you. I appreciate his game, just don’t enjoy it. I understand what he’s doing, the discipline and commitment in his strategy and tactics, the attritional aspect, the execution. For me, it’s enjoyable watching for about a game.
@@Robboogie2klite To be fair, when he's so dominant the result is set in stone after just the first game it's harder to enjoy!
@@M0odez Not just the shot selection (which indeed excellent) but the execution as well. (foe example, note how wide his cross courts are) He’s very patient and makes it difficult for his opponent to pressure him.
Paul has a Jahangir Khan quality to his game. He is very fit and consistent. With the modern racquet technology it is easy to hit winners so it’s interesting to see his strategy thrive
In that 2nd set at 3.55 Paul reminded of how Geoff Hunt played in the late '60s, mid court volleying to the front, picture perfect.
Good win for Coll he has played out of his skin the the SF and Final.
great players...great sportsmen
Well done Paul Kiwi's giving there all I love squash kiwi living in Perth and what kind words to your oppersition
Incredible effort by Paul! Until the talented younger generation like Elias, Dessouky, and Asal start catching up, I think a period of domination might be ahead for him.
Well Asal (whom I dislike) already won the US Open so he's caught up to an extent (also Dessouky won a big event last year, I forget which one).
@@watching99134 You can of course dominate without wining every single match. Going thru a tournament without dropping a game is very dominant.
I feel that (unfortunately) Elias might have reached his peak already. I like him very much though, so much elegance. He is a treat to watch. Asal and Dessouky have the raw talent to be able to dominate. But Dessouky needs to stay healthy, and Asal (who was very well-behaved at this tournament) might struggle not to be expelled from the tour for good ... but he is the best athlete in the sport that I have seen for a long time.
What makes you think Elias has reached his peak? He’s not even 26 until November - he won his first major recently in Qatar, beating Coll in the final with a beautiful performance. Coll is 29 and it’s only the last year since he won his 1st British open that he’s become this crazily dominant force. Elias has another 3/4 years of development before reaching his peak years and he’s already a major champion.
@@ckoegl I do feel like Elias hasn't improved significantly in the last couple of years. Maybe to give some perspective though, Paul Coll hovered around the world #5-7 for 3 years before he surged to world #1. Maybe the same thing might happen to Elias.
15-0 !! Respect!!! 🫡
Basically the new Nick Matthew, never gets tired and super consistent.
playing a lot !! congrats Coll
Very impressed with Coll
Another master display by both Coll and Farag. I like them both and was rooting for Farag this time since Coll has won the last few times. I'd love to see Farag to be a bit more aggressive next time. It seems he has been sucked into playing Coll's game instead of utilizing his more advanced skill to his advantage in the last few encounters.
Coll keeps it simple with great length and width which is very effective, especially against the Egyptian plyers. No slam dunk nicks, no stroke hunting and other nonsense.
Good work Coll.
PSA not helping the promotion of squash by limiting coverage to 8 minutes 24 hours later. Need to compromise on finals at least to get more viewers interested... (squashers and non-squasher alike).
I agree
Agreed
Yes !
also, their subscription charges are crazy! Twice that of Netflix in india!!!!! go figure....

What a return from Coll, who looked all over the shop just a week ago.
ive never seen anything like it in all the years of squash watch the khans to today.... this is a today Jayigner Khan type of strength.... you cant beat paul coll if his at this all round strength. His movement and strength contributes alot on his consistency his mastered a way to mix physical strength, discipline, skill and consistency
Ali Farag's entrance song was the "shot on iphone" meme. Suitable because Coll masterclassed him. 🤣🤣0:32
Bruh
True, I didn't even notice that! 🤣
Reminds me of J-O Waldners 21-0 in games att the tabletennis world champinjonship in GB.
Coll now requiring all the other players to raise their fitness levels significantly.
If you have the shot making its still possible to beat him but the risk level is high.
I guess that makes up for Canary Wharf.
Wow he stepped up and he believed! Gave a challenge to the Top Egyptian players and he persevered
Where's all the critics from a few years ago now, who said Paul Coll will never be the best in the world!?
Still boring as hell 😅Skilled though he is. #nevergoodenough

@@politicalyogi3710 Haha, you're not wrong!
An incredible flawless game. There aren't many players that can rattle Ali like that.
Cole looking very dominant
👍 didn’t expect 3-0 … great match nevertheless
Coll is like a bulldozer .. you know it will get the job done. Made Farag look slightly ordinary but you know Farag is unbelievably good. Nice tip of the hat to Farag mentioning him travelling around with his wife and little one. I'd say that was like playing in a separate tournament at the same time. But can't take it away from Coll , he is playing at another level . What a great tournament...amazing matches, great coverage. Nice that Jenny is back in the comm box and hearing Vanessa and Alison too.
Happy to see Paul win...however...the kind of squash he plays is so hard on his body since it's attritional squash. I don't see him continuing to train this hard in the next 2 years. I'd put money on Hesham, he's so incredibly talented, he needs to get his head in order a bit more. I believe the last player to go undefeated may have been Jahinger. Cole trains like him.
Coll class act! 100%
Coll is literally playing like a robot 😊
I love Paul Coll what a squash player so tacitly and physically strong
with the amount of winning strokes they showed of Ali's you'd have thought he had won by 3-0
you silenced your critics Paul, great effort!!
Congrats Paul Coll, probly still improving too
Wanna see a full match
Pay up :-)
To me, Coll's most obvious predecessor is Peter Nicol. They are not quite the same: I would say Nicol hit the ball harder but less accurately. But both won by anticipating and getting to every ball so early that their opponents would still be recovering from their previous shot. If you can do that, you don't need fancy shots! Farag is actually similar, just a bit off his game at the moment.
COLL is d best right now ! !
That did NOT look fun for Farag. Farag has been so dominant that I think this is the first time I ever felt myself rooting for him as an underdog! Lots of ingredients to Coll's victory but above all - discipline and consistency. Almost every shot is just the most obvious shot, executed with precision. Very contrary to the spirit of modern "Egyptian" squash (which I love) which really adds some fun color to these battles. Without dropping a game all tournament too, against the likes of Farag and Asal - crazy.
But I still think Farag has the talent to beat him (and everyone else). We've almost never seen Farag really fired up, maybe this will do it, I'd love to see him stretch to limits we haven't yet seen.
Can anyone explain why Farag won the first point? To me it looks like he was standing in the other player’s way and therefore should forfeit the point.
Good on Coll, but was Farag playing injured? His physical output and reach was uncharacteristically limited!
I don't think there's an injury but you can see he's not playing to his usual standard. it's been that way for the last few tournaments I feel even though he's been going deep. Probably lack of sleep with a baby on your 😅
Yeah, big drop-off in the second half of each game. Coll is just that much faster? With Farag's economy of movement never seen someone do that to him.
Yes, that what happens when you cannot dominate your opponent but the converse happens - you look pretty average. There was nothing wrong with Farag - he was simply outplayed and outclassed.
No Ali is fasting due to Ramadan
@@rozanramadanmohammed4710 Only during daylight hours.
Great win for Coll. Such an awesome athlete. Was Farag fasting? I believe Asal was fasting. Clearly Ramadan a huge factor at this level.
I think at this point a FIT a gawad would be the only challenge,, only he has the shotmaking abilities to get the ball past coll
Farag is no pizza, but Coll went through him like a breadknife dipped in iron filings.
Wish the match was longer, I could watch these two play for days, but Coll was very accurate and consistent.
3-0 to Coll. Still the vast majority of balls showed in the clip was won by Ali. Seems like a select few players always get displayed in a favourable light in these clips, as well as getting more air-time. Oh well. Massively impressed by Paul this week. Not a single game dropped. In the British Open!!!
Coll is not a flashy player - more a superfit grinder. Makin is another. So not surprising that they don't get as many clipped highlights.
@@dalstonjazz flashy player??? 😂. He just won the British Open without losing a set. There is no grinder in the world who can do that. Makin?? Colls shotmaking is lightyears better than Joels. If you don't see that, you don't have very much understanding of squash.
@@peterhammer4644 I run a squash club... I don't think you are being serious if you can't see major differences in the style among the top players.
@@dalstonjazz ??? of course there are differences. But you don't seem very serious with your squash if you can't see the quality of Colls ballstriking. The accuracy is incredible. His technique is also very clean. Not like Hesham f.ex.
@@peterhammer4644 Where did I say anything about Coll's quality? Clearly it's outstanding but he doesn't as you say play like the obviously flashy Hesham. So we seem to be in agreement.
Farag still the better player, just didn't have enough fire on the night - seemed a bit too chilled. Contrary to other predictions here I think Asal and the young guns will soon eclipse Coll and end his brief reign at no 1.
Do we know if Ali is fasting for Ramadan? He might not want a everyone to know or for that to be the focus, but it would be almost impossible to keep up with Coll if you’re not eating or drinking all day.
Sad to see no Egyptians left to take on Coll. Gone are the glory days of Ashour, Shorbagi, and Shabana. Farag has been in a rut for a while now and doesn't seem to be getting out of it.
Um, you might have heard of this Asal guy, whose trajectory will take him past Coll in no time, if someone doesn't shoot him first.
Paul coll have dominated for three months and ended
بصراحة يا علي إنت بتخسر من كول من قبل ما الماتش يبتدي.. هو مسيطر عليك ذهنيا بشكل كامل.. بقت ماتشاتك أسهل ماتشات عند كول
I can’t believe coll just 3-0 farag, incredible performance from him He just needs a world champion title now
At this rate nobody will be able to touch him in a few months, let alone by World Champs
Great win by Coll, other players may have to step up their physical fitness to handle playing him. Grinding his opponents out with his physicality and fitness. That said the Muslim players will be at a disadvantage now having started their yearly fasting period.
Guys Ali is fasting I think so he didn't play well
He gives me hope that you do not have to play fancy shots unnecessary risky moves, three wall boast nick and other bullshits still, you can play this sport... Just perfect squash Paul is not the most talented he is most gritty, hardworking, and disciplined what a player for the sport! Role model indeed
ya if you have superman speed and dives and stamina
@@Dabaobao23 lol I agree, but fitness is essential, and given that once you are in the world's top 10, he won against Ibrahim in the windy city finals Ibrahim was another beast too Paul won against him being 2-0 down ... We can’t doubt Paul’s quality but let’s be real. Is this the squash we want to showcase to the world… even the commentators call it boring. Eagerly waiting for ibrahim, Asal, dessouky and hesham to catch up
Asal🤢🤮
Oh shut up, you were on the same video bashing Coll when he lost to Crouin. He just proved you wrong from your last comments and now you’re here crying 😂😂😂
I think it's best for squash if there's a mix of styles; messy nick shoot-outs with no real squash in between are boring too. For me the early 2010s matches between Ashour and Willstrop were some of the best ever due to the extreme clash of styles.
@@M0odez yeah but comparing Coll to willstrop is a massive disrespect to wilstrop. Willstrop is highly entertaining. Coll is a length merchant
@@JK-jr1gs I don't think that's a fair assessment of Coll given his improvement in the last year, and doesn't appreciate just how similar his game is to how Willstrop used to play before his injury around 2014. Willstrop used to display much of the same shot selection as Coll does today, most notably the lobs, counter drops, and fading straight drives, and he hadn't yet developed the windmills or extreme shoulder turn drives that he plays today now he's unable to rely on his movement as much.
Stroke call at the end of the second another travesty, push your opponent into the ball without being anywhere near and you'll get it. Fully agree with Farag's irritation there, although basically every player does it at least once per tournament. Just judge the let at the moment of player-to-player contact, not a second later when ball and players have moved. At least it wasn't another stroke at match point...
Farag didn't clear the ball
@@logant6490 He couldn't because Coll pushed him towards the ball before he could move and well before Coll could actually hit the ball. Fabricated stroke.
It was loose from the wall and deeper than he intended. Coll pushed Ali because he was in the way. Both the chair umpire and video umpire called it a stroke. That's because it was a very obvious stroke.
Coll would have got it easily
That’s a stroke in real time, slo-mo, and video review. If only all the calls were that easy squash would be an Olympic sport by now.
i'm sorry but he is just too boring
