That Dunkin’ Donuts employee had a good heart
Not very good for business tho
@@Rowec but the doughnuts were being thrown away so either way they wouldn't have made a profit from those doughnuts. All that they achieved by firing that person was having to repeat the hiring process, spend the money to retrain the new employee and they have also now gained a bonus reputation for being a company who would rather waste perfectly good food instead of using it to potentially prolong someone's life. I suppose you could argue that some people may try to pretend to be homeless to get free doughnuts but some people may not want to risk getting the reputation of "pretending to be homeless so they can take more from the people who've lost everything" plus the employee could probably tell if someone's just trying to take advantage or keep track of the regulars.
@@Rowec Yeah the boss could really make a profit off that.....that's why they're throwing it away......

Because they can get sue for doing that, and by samaritan laws most if not all of shelters only take shelf stable or non perishable food. "We only take shelf-stable, non-perishable food items," says Shannon Traeger, a spokeswoman for Feeding America, a network of U.S. food banks.

I feel bad for the employee who got fired for giving away the donuts. He was punished for doing a good deed. I know Dunkin probably doesn't want liability for any of their food so they'd rather throw it away, but I genuinely feel sorry for the employee who got fired.
So the secret is when you go against the establishment, don't record yourself doing it
I think it's less about liability and more about profits. They probably think that people who might otherwise buy a donut wouldn't if they could anticipate getting it for free later.
It's not about the food itself, it's a way of preventing employees from taking them home and selling them for cheaper for profit. If you can take them home and sell, you will make it so there are always leftovers at the expense of the company.
I hope something good is coming his way! I'd love to hear an update that he got hired to preserve food or Duncan is getting slammed online for shitty business practices

I used to work at Chick-fil-A, and they actually had a very similar rule regarding throwing out of any unsold product at end of day. The idea is that if you don't discard it, customers or employees often would then take this food, which results in either increased food costs or decreased revenue. However, what we started doing is bagging and labeling this food and storing it in bins in the freezer that would later be donated as chicken used for soup kitchens or other similar outreach programs. So, there's definitely a solution there if you make it happen
Being fired for giving food to the homeless? More proof how messed up this world is

@@arturas3099 yeah true, thats why they dont just give away donuts
@@arturas3099 that's their reason for why they don't give away doughnuts. But if doughnuts were made that day or even the day before and they actually have the potential to make you sick then they aren't fit for human consumption at all. Bagels and doughnuts that have been made on that day are fine. Especially when you consider that doughnuts and bagels or loaves of bread sit on store shelves for a couple of days before getting tossed or bought, this is just nuts

If he gave away left over donuts and someone gets sick, Krispy Kreme would be held liable.

The whole thing with the donuts isn't new. My brother-in-law works at a bakery and he told me that they throw out a lot of bread each day because it isn't "fresh". Some of the bread is being repurpased but a lot of it just goes into the bin every day, it not even being a day old. They aren't allowed to give it away because that would be considered "stealing" by the company. I think it's a f*cking disgrace.

The reason they have to throw the food out at the end of the day is because someone who eats the free donuts could sue the company saying it got them sick. I worked in restaurants for years and that was the reason that was given to me. No one liked throwing out all the left over food but the policy was introduced after someone did get sued over giving away left over food. So it was really the fault of whoever filled that first lawsuit.
Yeah the reason they do that now is to avoid a lawsuit, because some asshole got free food and sued a company (can't remember which) when he got food poisoning he sued them thus why company's don't do that anymore

Probably still the best boss I’ve ever had, even fifteen years later.
Thank you! I used to work at Panera and its company policy! I get so frustrated at the comments that say "it's a liability" to give away leftovers. It's not! That's a myth perpetrated by the greedy/lazy corporations to deter ppl from giving away or trying to get free food!
currently work at panera bread as a manager. i know for sure i'd be fired if i gave away our disposed and unsold food away to homeless people, even if there was nothing wrong w it and free. they are such a greedy and money-hungry corporation that they recently increased the prices of everything on the menu. even our hardworking employees can't even eat bc the half-off discount still applies and they can'tt afford food at such a high price sometimes.
@@dreadfairy6963 we are supposed to “donate”. we don’t have a donor so it really does get thrown out. it’s supposed to happen as per the policy as you mentioned. however, management is really bad where i am and we don’t have a good support system from the higher ups. i don’t know why you think i don’t know what we’re supposed to be doing. i’m literally the closing manager almost every single night and it just doesn’t happen. it doesn’t. it gets thrown out in the morning because we don’t have a designated organization or area to donate to. not every panera is run perfectly as you think. we also definitely do not get free cookies. i never did as an associate even at another store. i know what i’m talking about. your panera doesn’t represent the rest of them. i’m glad you’re able to work in such a nice environment but it’s miserable where i am

Bro that Dunkin' Donuts one hurt me. Not only do they waste donuts, but they then fire the employee who made it so less donuts would be wasted, whilst making people who most likely can't afford a Dunkin' happy.
I remember one time they gave a homeless guy some donuts, he got sick from them, and then the homeless guy sued Dunkin’. I’m pretty sure that’s why they aren’t allowed to give them away
1. Quality control, avoid some ass out there looking for anything to sue them for money (the world is both sided, there are bad people out there even if you are the good people trying to help them) 2. If Dunkin would allow employee to give away extra food, that will ended up with some greedy mother fker trying to get every free donut at the end of everyday (same for every food service) and just won't spend money to buy their product and that is not how to do business.

Sadly can confirm that the donut story is happening pretty much *everywhere*. Many years ago I used to have a student job at a hospital kitchen. Every day we threw out a literal metric ton of fresh food made for the patients. Meats, diary, eggs, greens, bread, soup, every type of food. We filled over a dozen barrels daily. Us students were secretly snacking on the leftover food because we didn't have much money, but if we got caught we would get fired.
that pufferfish really said: 👁👄👁 mAkE mE PhAmOuS
That moment when you realize his eyes are on his side, which means the pufferfish was actually staring the diver in the face.

That guy who gave the donuts to the homeless deserves a reward not being fired
Until the homeless ppl sue for getting sick.
@@GarudaLegends double edged sword
@@GarudaLegends They can't, The Federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act makes it illegal to sue over donated food unless there was "intentional malice."
@@ChaosRocket false. It still happens. This is why restaurants don't give away food to homeless ppl.
@@GarudaLegends I see it every day man, last time I gave a homeless person a sandwich they stood up and popped out a suit, then proceeded to call their lawyer with a magic conch, won an unwinnable case because screw federal law, that's for nerds and got millions.
In my late teens, I experienced homelessness for a brief time. Those donuts kept me alive. It was the only restaurant around for miles. Most people who live on the streets know that you can always find donuts in the dumpster after closing time. If you work at a donut shop and you are throwing away piles of donuts, tell you what, double bag it and tie a knot at the top, that keeps them fresher and there's less risk of damage or contamination while awaiting another poor, lost, broken and desperate soul.

If a homeless person got given the donuts and because the donut was old it made them ill, they could sue. Happened in the past so they have a strict policy

They looked so delicious too!!
Actually, pufferfish make good pets. There used to be a saltwater aquarium store in my hometown. The lady that owned it had several pufferfish. One got excited and wagged his tail and body like a dog when he was shown the feed pail and another would roll over on his back so the woman would rub his belly. They act like dogs and recognize their owners. I had a few green spotted puffer "puppy" fish that would follow me as I walked around the aquarium.
Wow. That pufferfish was so sociable!
1:10 Bro, this is literally a testament of the saying, "When we could feed a starving world with what we throw away." This is so messed up. Kudos to that employee who just wanted to help the poor guys out.
Why buy donuts if you can just get it for free, its unfair, what they have to do is a better way of preserving the donut so they can resell it for cheaper price.

@@apdroidgeek1737 Do you really think the homeless frequent dunkin donuts? no. give food away to homeless people, food is a human right.
@@jay-tbl People only declare something to be a public entitlement (a human right)--say free college or free healthcare--so that they then are justified in extracting resources from those who create wealth to pay for it. Our only natural human rights are the rights afforded us by nature. For example, we are alive so we have the right to remain that way. If you saw a stick and picked it up, that is your stick and you have the right to property. Someone can not come up and take your stick from you because it is your property. It is not a natural right to take which gives us the natural right to protect our natural rights. You have the right to protect your stick from those who seek to take it. You have the right to food if you make it. If you grow a garden and plant food, that food is yours and others do not have the right to take that property from you. You do not have the right to be provided for by other people. You do not have the right to be kept alive by other people. You have the right to not have your life taken from you. The fact that they fired the dude who was giving the wasted donuts a good purpose just makes me lose hope in humanity
It's not humanities fault. It's the CEOs who don't want to give products they won't sell away because it might devalue them. They don't give that food away because they're afraid it'd hurt them. Companies are selfish
