Stranded passengers witnessed chaotic scenes at Dubai International Airport after more than 1,200 flights were cancelled following an unprecedented storm on April 16, 2024, leading to widespread travel chaos. Authorities said the rain on April 16 was the heaviest in decades. It was the most rainfall to ever hit the UAE in a single day since records began in 1949.

  • No city in the EU could manage 25 cm of rainfall in a single day, let alone a desert city. And yes, this was the work of Mother Nature, not cloud seeding. Even in the Netherlands, renowned for its water management, there were challenges in separating sewage from rainwater during heavy rainfall in 1992. It's not that uncommon. So, let's stop gloating just because some people in Dubai drive bigger cars than you do. OK?

  • Everyone is frustrated, but it's mother nature creation. If the crew members cannot get to work at the airport because the streets, airport are flooded, how can the flight operate??? Everyone 's safely is the priority, the complaint man is not dying of medical emergency! With the type of budget Dubai has, it will solve the problems eventually. Please understand that its natural disaster! P/S, when we had the flooding in LA, + southern California, people were quick to blame the governor. Now central + Southern California is experiencing superbloom, wildflowers everywhere on field, even at Death Valley, one of the hottest desert 🏜️

      @amidnight@amidnight14 күн бұрын
    • @@amidnight UAE is a desert climate due to it's geographical location. Total annual precipitaiton for a desrt climate would be 0-250mm, this means that dubai is experiencing a years worth of rainfall in a day. No drainage system would be able to take a year's worth of rainfall, most are usually build to hold at most a few months worth of rainfall.

      @starlight-bq2we@starlight-bq2we14 күн бұрын
    • @@starlight-bq2we no you don't quite understand. 250mm is 250liters per square meter. You only need drainage to take that to a lower lying natural system. Many places in the World get such deluges. Just last week we had 150mm in 24 hrs with no damage. 12 months or 1 month is irrelevant.

    @HopeYukizmizu@HopeYukizmizu10 күн бұрын
  • And still no one is speaking about the big pink elephant in the room. Dubai officials have caused this issue themselves by doing cloud seeding, they did cloud seeding 7 times that day, it goes to show. When people start playing with the weather on this scale you will get issues. We see weather manipulations happening daily but here in Dubai it is probably a new toy so they not used to moderate the levels. Well it is clear to see and they have now caused themselves irreparable damage by tampering with cloud seeding and trying to play Gods. However, saying this, people are just not aware this is happening, nor interested. Uninterested public and governing bodies tampering with our weather, we get these results. Most governing bodies have signed up to this, or do it themselves. Clearly Dubai have the money to buy their own system but don't understand what they are doing, it is dangerous, but there you go. x
