After Dubai, Torrential Rainfall Batters Saudi Arabia | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Floods and heavy rain hit parts of Saudi Arabia on Monday, including the provinces of Al-Ula and Al-Madinah. Heavy rain and floods have forced road closures and schools to cancel in-person attendance in several parts of the Kingdom amid travel warnings issued by the Gulf nation’s meteorological authorities. The National Meteorological Centre issued red alerts for Qassim and other areas, the capital Riyadh and Medina province bordering the Red Sea. This comes after flash floods in parts of the Gulf last month. What explains this freak weather? Why are these countries so unprepared for this? Palki Sharma tells you.

This means no lumber for many in the eastern states . Also the culling of young in wildlife that a normal winter occasions isn't happening leading to explosions in populations of Racoon, Bear, puma, mouse, possum....Mini monsoon rains are killing off many of the large winged raptors too who's wings can't dry out between rains; no fly, no eat, no eat they die. Wish govt. ,even just local, would listen but they don't. Still pushing fossil fuels.

  • About the best civil engineers can/should do is build for 100 year events. More is possible, but is it worth it? I mean... build to a 300 year standard, and entire systems may wind up being replaced many times over before they appear useful one time [maybe]. Most places I have traveled, if the area gets monsoon like weather, floors are tile, stone, marble - something that cleans up easily. Anyway, rain is good news... if we could get co2 levels up near the 600-700ppm range so arid region plants could hold more water easier and for longer. Might even see a greening of the peninsula here and there. Hopefully, the Saudi's will ban the insane practice of sequestration now being mindlessly implemented in the west. Plant life and the things that live off it are the key to oil being a renewable resource. Floods like this recent one? Part of the cycle - always be careful where you build.
