Hard Shearing Day with the Team!

A shearing day with all the team! Back in July we joined the gang to help shear all the sheep at a farm in Ayrshire. After a tough day, but also being well looked after with treats and tea, it was time to shear the Rams, I took on a wriggly Buefaced Leicester.
Sit back and relax while we show you what a typical days shearing is like!
Time Stamps:
0:00 Shearing as a Team
3:46 Full Shear of a Buefaced Leicester

  • Cammy - have you thought about doing a Go-Fund-Me for the cost of having private hernia surgery? I'll bet your fans would raise the $2500 very quickly! I just hate to think of you in so much pain every time you lift up Jock.

    • That is very kind but it’s not the money that’s the issue it’s the fact I won’t recover before lambing time. 😅. I’m going to see the surgeon on Tuesday. Will let u know how i get on 😁

    • It's good to hear that you are going to see the surgeon soon. The sooner you can take care of the problem, the faster you'll recover. I know you all are incredibly busy, and we admire your hard work, but sometimes there's just no option. Please remember that we love you and your dear family. Everyone needs you to take care of yourself.❤

    • Lizzie’s out for lambing this year she’s halfway thru her pregnancy now and will have a newborn so 3 under 3 and Cammy recovering from surgery would be something. Hope you’re doing okay until lambing’s done Cammy and necessary arrangements can be made

    • Because of the nature of a hernia, Cammy would need approx 12 weeks to recuperate if he was to let it heal & not redo it. 3 under & having surgery, I don't think he could do it with the number of lambs due.

  • With rams, you do what you can. I am shearing a lot of Ile de France big boys and it can be very tricky. Full support for what you do from a french sheep farmer and shearer. Cheers

  • I love watching the shearing - you should wear masks to keep your lungs clear of the tiny floating bits of wool - don’t make health problems for yourself for the future.

  • Have you've sheared any Dorset's Rams before Cammy ? Good going on the ram there I've sheared Bluefaced before, I usually get catapulted off them. 🤕👍

  • How hard is it for a woman to shear? We are thinking about moving and when we do, we want to have a couple of sheep to graze after the horses. But hair sheep are hard to get in Portugal. I am used to farm work as in struggling with heavy wheel barrows through mud and carrying heavy bags of feed (which are 25 kilo here instead of the 15/20 kilo bags we'd have in the Netherlands). I have Heiniger clippers, could I just change the blades from horse to sheep or would I need a whole new machine? I don't think there is a thing like professional shearers in Portugal and they probably wouldn't want to come for only 4/6 sheep.
