  • Many people are asking if the horse felt any pain or discomfort during this. No, the horse doesn't feel any pain whatsoever as this process is same as we humans getting pedicure. The guy who is doing this is clearly experienced in his work and the horse is also smart enough to understand what he's owner is doing to him

  • "Horseshoes are used to help aid in the durability of the hoof on working horses. The hoof itself is made up of the same stuff as your fingernail, called keratin. However, the hoof has a soft and tender inner part called the frog, that can be injured. The hoof will naturally wear away when horses walk so adding a shoe onto the hoof helps to diminish that and keep the frog in healthy condition." -The more you know. They've learned that they feel much better afterward with trimmed hooves and nice newly fitted shoes, and they have nothing to fear. It doesn't hurt, it just feels funny like our nails getting clipped. They get breaks in between each foot so they can put weight back on that leg. They've learned that they can trust the farrier not to hurt them at any point in time. It's classic conditioning.

      @shroomey6686@shroomey66862 жыл бұрын
    • @shroomey I'm fairly certain that the kind of terrain the horse will be on affects the likelihood of said complications. Horses that are on concrete, asphalt, brick will wear their hooves down way more than wild horses that will mostly be on grass and dirt.

    • @@shroomey6686 haha, you triggered my trump card, i actually know about this topic! So, basically span of wild horse is 5 years shorter than domesticated one (dont actually know exact number but around this mark). Reasons to this are the ones you suggest: 1) Hoofs aint getting that fresh cut their whole life, so are disease prone, and in case they got damage, there's no one to treat the hoof. 2) They get damaged and destroyed, due to them traveling in mountains or plains, and simply they face the harsh nature on everyday basis, while domesticated horses are usually travelling the same old plain or farm, maybe get to walk in the trees but don't go around as much as wild ones.

The only time he was chill was when I'd go for a walk with him and the herd dog Razor or when he'd get his hooves cleaned up. Considering how good it feels tp get your face cleaned up from pores, nails clipped and cleaned, I can imagine how that feels t

    • I can imagine it feels nice to hear the clean sounds of new horseshoes tapping on the ground, I wonder if they feel a difference in a newly installed horseshoe, like maybe the horseshoe might feel less angled when it's newly installed, but it gets slightly off angle overtime as the hoof grows. Maybe a new horseshoes sounds a bit different too. I'm not trolling, I am actually wondering.

    • You know how when you cut your fingernails, you don't feel pain unless you cut too close to the skin? Well, think of a horse's hoof as a large, thick fingernail covering the foot. As you saw, the nails were placed into the outer shell of the hoof. The horse didn't feel a thing. The only part of the hoof that is sensitive is the frog (the triangle-like part in the center of the hoof) and the sole.
