  • The Walking Dead can never improve. It has the Gilligan’s Island problem where they can never solve the problem without ending the franchise. Everything will always be a rinse and repeat of what came before with minor twists. Even the comic realized this so it just abruptly ended with Rick dying followed by a time jump where they have managed to deal with Zombies while looking at a statue of Rick in his honor.

    • @@rafaelarcas942 It should be easy to understand. The show Gilligan's Island could never have them get off the Island or the show would end. As such every attempt to get off the Island was guaranteed to fail. They eventually did get off the Island in a made for TV movie but then ended up back on the Island at the end. How it applies to The Walking Dead is that if they ever solve the Zombie Apocalypse the show ends. If they ever make it to a safe place where there are no threats the show ends. As a result they will always be recycling the same struggles over and over again to keep the show going. They always run into a new group that is a threat and overcome that group. Or else they run into a new zombie threat they overcome. Rinse and repeat.

But the fact the characters just refuse to believe he died is just...really silly. Yeah yeah I get it they love him and everything but what possible reason would you think he's alive? There's no way anyone would know that someone picked him up in a fucking helicopter, maybe if they saw that I could buy them looking for whoever took him but all they saw was that he either got blown up or fell in a river and then either died or somehow didn't. And yeah I know that they also want to find him at all even if he's dead for some closure but still it's been 5 years in a world infested with zombies, there's no logical reason to conclude maybe he's still alive or that his shambling corpse I guess just went on a huge cross country trip. If freaking Daryl couldn't find him for years then they should have just considered him dead. It makes much more sense that he just died and got eaten like his first wife.

  • I don't know if I would call it wasted potential. I think it delivered on what I've been wanting to see ever since Andrew Lincoln left in season 9: Getting reunited with his family. I did not expect the show to resolve that in just 1 season with 6 episodes, compared to how Daryl Dixon will get a (completely unnecessary imo) season 3. I thought we would see a lot more of the CRM, but I think it would be problematic to make a potential season 2 interesting about that. I wouldn't mind if the show got like 2-3 episodes more and the wrapped it up. The problem with the main show for years, was that everything was dragged to eternity. It was completely unnecessary with 16 episodes pr season, and freaking 24 episodes in seasons 10 and 11. I was just happy to see Andrew Lincoln return again. It wrapped up quickly, yes, but I wouldn't call it wasted potential. The show was mostly character driven, and it was primarily about Rick and Michonne, so I understand it from a writing point of view. The only thing I missed was seeing the "season 5 machete Rick" that Gimple teased from the day that Andrew and Danai went on stage at Comic Con to announce the show 20 months ago. That Rick never appeared. But overall, I'm satisfied. They should just leave it at season 1, imo. Although I hope Rick and Michonne somehow returns again.

  • Based on your review, it's really weird to me that Rick cuts off his hand in episode 1, and it seems like there's not even any consequences. In the comics this injury has serious immediate effects and long lasting impacts

    • Because in the comics there's no medical care or civilization to get help from. Here, he had that with the CRM so they were able to cauterize it and treat it properly.

  • Fuck this show and the positive feedback from fans will reassure AMC that people will love mid. I hope this franchise would just try to return to its peak of seasons 1-5 and 6 and 9

  • We are living in a dystopia now and it probably gives people this feeling of happiness when they see them getting a happy end. In a post-apocalyptic tv show where everyone is horrible.

  • It is so weird. As a TWD diehard I can even see that this franchise is schizophrenic. Moments of sheer brilliance mixed with absolute crap. It's kind of always been that way. It's like every time Gimple wants to prove himself as one of the best modern TV writers he shits the bed completely. So many great ideas that do not turn into a great story. He just cannot do it. A shame.

  • TOWL has the same exact arc in quality as the show, amazingly strong start and slowly drops off till questionably mediocre. I commend the show on somehow managing that. It feels like the series actually ended and all the loose ends are just additional

  • Steel cable is very hard to cut through, especially against soft ground, and with the number of times rick had tried to escape, i think it was implied that he had probably tried by cutting the cable in the past and it just didn't work Granted a simple 5 second shot of him trying to cut the cable first would have helped, but i don't think its really a problem

  • I actually enjoyed the show while watching it because it's RICK GRIMES!!! Rick was, is, and will always BE The Walking Dead! He IS the show! Give me Rick Grimes in any show and i'll watch! But I do agree with a lot of your opinions here! Especially the Jadis hate! She's always been my least favorite! So boring! Can't hold my attention for 30 seconds! I absolutely love your idea of getting all the main characters back together one last time to defeat the CRM! That would have been a REAL EPIC ending to TWD once and for all! They are stretching the universe way too far! And it all sucks now! Also, one last comment... We need to praise Andrew and Danai's acting in this! You can criticize everything in this show, except their acting! They are MASTERS! And they really know their characters in and out! They are espectacular!

  • 40:51 im actually baffled this went over your head, you're usually good at picking up on subtext and themes. They both know its a a risk to leave them a gun. They even speak about it. But thats the point, its the willingness to trust in humanity, the hope that yeah things are fucked rn, but theres still hope we can be there for eachother. Also, its not like he just hands them the gun, he chucks it away for them to find, because hes not going to leave them defensless.

  • Since there are ongoing spinoffs, as much as I wanted a Rick reunion with Daryl, Maggie, Negan, hell any of the home crew, I knew they wouldn't happen, and therefore there wouldn't be a satisfying ending. You can't have a reunion/homecoming with characters that are off to different places. So I knew the ending of this show was, unfortunately, dead on arrival before it even aired, so the journey of this spinoff didn't grab me. The welcomed return of Rick can't have a satisfying ending if the only people waiting for him were Judith who he hasn't seen since being an infant, and RJ who he didn't even know existed. That said, if there was ever a possibility of this show and Rick's story ending with a bang, it should have been with Carl. Even if this show was a bit of a slog (despite Andrew and Danai's fantastic performances), if Rick actually reunited with Carl at the end after so long; if Carl became the leader of this new generation like he was destined to be, this could have been a sensational wrap up to the character of Rick Grimes (if this is where they choose to leave it). But we all know that couldn't happen. I still cannot believe how killing Carl off has had such drastic consequences for the entire Walking Dead Universe, so many years later. Truly one of the worst decisions in television history.
