The explosive documentary about the toxic and abusive environment inside '90s kids' TV didn’t just expose a dangerous workplace, it also exposed Hollywood hypocrisy.

I think it's important to let kids speak freely on what they think because otherwise they are just going to mimic whatever the adults are saying. I think what the teacher in the video forgot is it's not about her. It's about the students.

The kid is jewish and the Pro-Pal stuff made him understandably comfortable. I don't think it's appropriate for a teacher to use her classroom as a soapbox for her causes, whatever they are, but apparently she thinks she's being super-woke and inclusive. And yet, her student feels uncomfortable and the teacher, like the one in the video, seems more concerned with herself and expressing her views.

    • You know you can give them a break, right? Here's the thing he's not telling you: you still have a choice. If you don't want to take your kid to drag queen story hour, you don't have to. If you don't want to buy them a book about queer pride, no one's forcing you to. Stuff exists so that _in case_ it ever did come up, if your kid ever did see something they didn't understand and asked questions or expressed interest, it'd be there to help you explain it. Maher's argument is a sneaky way of saying such stuff shouldn't exist because it being visible means children run the risk of being sexualized. It plays right into the bad-faith right-wing philosophy that nothing to do with sex, gender or identity they hate should exist, publicly or privately. Drag queen story hour is not the same as sex education and sex education is not the same as pedophilia. I remember seeing my first out gay person when I was five and I asked my parents who and what they were. They and I wish we had the resources and societal acceptance to view them as normal back then, that answering such a question would've been easy. When we stop being threatened by the sheer existence of some people, we can have legitimate normal conversations about who and what they are, SEPARATE to the very real issues of sexual predation and pedophilia. Until then, stop both-sides-ing the argument.

There’s been certain schools that have had drag queen story hours invited by teachers during publicly funded school hours and queer books being assigned to students for reading. Im all for queer kids being represented in entertainment animation (of course I am, Im gay myself) but its true what Bill Mahr said… drag queen story hour is more for the queen than the kids. Representation is great but make no mistake… people take it too far and ruin it for us. Leave the kids out of our political squabbling. I also understand the “gay agenda” of making kids tolerant before their homophobic parents brain wash them but some go about it the wrong way. Some bigots will be unhappy with any representation but thats not what myself or Bill Mahr are talking too. MOST kids are abused by someone they know----and while it can be a coach or leader in their "church context"----fact is, it's usually someone IN THEIR FAMILY: father/stepfather, uncle, mom's boy friend--a relative. And the pressure is high to keep "the family secret" OR be kicked out of your own family.

      @kendomyers@kendomyers8 күн бұрын
    • @@kendomyers Not everything is political, at least to me stuff become political when politicians run them as issues they plan to "solve" (usually just dance around the issue) As for protecting kids it's a really tough issue, especially when America (n politicians) would have to start with saying if they only care about American children or children worldwide, if worldwide then that opens up a big can of worms where they have to become the world police to even think of tackling the issue. But as a general goal it would be nice to properly define "protect the children" as a cause because it's been used many times to purity test the media and culture without much substance. Like with the Satanic panic era of wanting to remove/restrict (access to) violent music/movies/video games with "think of the children" coming up by the early Mom's against groups (currently Moms for Liberty is prob the most popular one, though "violent" has been replaced by some form of argument against degeneracy/indecency)

On this particular issue, I think Maher hits it on the head when he says that it "seems like it's more for the queens than for the kids." "Identity politics." Nothin against drag queens, but I think Maher's right on that one. Seems like it's more for the adult drag queens than for the kids. I think he's also right about kids going through phases. Gender reassignment seems to be a fad. In a different video, Maher says that he wanted to be a pirate when he was a kid, but that he's glad that his parents didn't go ahead and have one of his legs amputated so he could have a wooden peg leg. Why? Because six months after the pirate thing, he changes his mind and wants to be Spiderman, instead. Obviously, there ARE people/kids who in "the wrong body;" there ARE people who do benefit from gender reassignment surgery. And even more obviously, men and women should be able to do with their own bodies WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT TO. But kids are very impressionable, and they change their minds a lot. Give 'em a little more time to deliberate before you're like (as Maher says) "Hand me the dick saw!" It's a big decision, is all I'm saying.

Although that could have been deliberate, I have read liberal media corporate owners have forbidden its staff and journalists from using the term "grooming" in relation to children and the LGBT movement.

    • @@connievino4226 Yes, this is problem as definitions get twisted. Republicans like to lump socialism in with communism but few people really understand the meanings from a political science perspective because it has all simply become political. People used to know these things, but we have dumbed down America so much. Trump really isn't a what we consider conservative Republican as he is a Populist, he just says what he thinks people what to hear and mostly about culture like this because this is an easy win against liberals. But remember how bad racism used to be? At 61 I remember. My brother's wife is black and I have to remember from time to time because I never think of it. Now my wife is Chinese, my daughter speaks 3 languages and never has a problem. My son, however, is often confused with being a Latino and gets spit on and called or told terrible things. Where does that come from I wonder. Two steps forward, one step back.
