When “activism” merges with narcissism, it becomes less about the cause and more about the ego.

  • This was just published in the The Times of London. The war in Sudan…erupted last April and has created the world’s biggest humanitarian disaster, uprooting 8.5 million people and leaving 25 million needing humanitarian help. Experts say that famine will break out in the coming weeks, which could kill 500,000 to one million people. Anyone interested? No, I thought not.

    • I am interested. Also, it is different. For one, more people have died in less time in Gaza, even though both sides don't have strong armies, not that that matters but it is just an observation, it is a civil war in Sudan, and also, Israel is funded by the United States. Also, you have the fact that Israel is attacking a country that has signed up to the international criminal court's laws of war, and Israel may be breaking those laws, it is a sovereign nation using force on another ethic group of people. It isn't a civil war. Also, Israel have made genocidal statements in the press and in meetings, government members have spoken that way, and United States directly gives aid to that government, and most of the public until recently supported Israel. Syria and Sudan are internal matters, equally as terrible or more terrible, but it is not the same thing. No nation can step in and really police it unless everyone agreed because factions are fighting within those countries borders. Even though for example the United States has backed rebel factions in Syria for example, with no long term plan. It isn't really like for like at all. That is like saying because terrible things happen all over the world all the time, we should care about nothing, it is whataboutism.

      @josephpurdy4664@josephpurdy466410 күн бұрын
    • @@josephpurdy4664 I would like to set the record straight by stating that I like Bill Maher, even when I disagree with him. That said, surely you must agree that the man exudes a high level of hubris. It may be justified; Maher is an intelligent individual. Nevertheless, justification for hubris or narcissism does not absolve a person of the character trait. I stand by my statement that it reveals a certain level of narcissism (if not to a clinical level) to tell an audience to respond with applause before proceeding. It is tantamount to directing the audience to express agreement with his statements. You attribute the audience reluctance to fear. What do they have to fear? If the audience agreed with Maher's statement, he has created a safe space for them to respond spontaneously. His audience responded spontaneously on a number of other points. The audience reluctance more probably stems from the realization that Maher was making some controversial statements, and some members of the audience were either conflicted about supporting his views or disagreed with them. Even if the audience whole-heartedly agreed with Maher's statements, it shows a significant level of self-focus and self-confidence to be so certain of your position on a controversial subject to assume that your audience shares your views so thoroughly that they only need "permission" to express that agreement with applause. I would argue that the type of person who enjoys watching Bill Maher is a thinking individual. So it follows that the audience members might arrive at differing opinions about the protestors of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Therefore, it is a bit narcissistic of Maher to assume that everyone in the audience thinks as he does on the issue.

    @rikarch@rikarch14 күн бұрын
    • Kinda, but not really. Fascists and Communists are both left wing socialists (and both use the same tools). Both want everything decided at the national or international level. American conservatives on the other hand (a minority within the GOP), want to follow the Constitution, have a SMALL federal government, decide things like Education at the local (or at most the State) level. This is why Trump leans right, but is not a conservative. He originally called for a federal ban on abortion. Again, deciding things at the Federal level. The Conservatives on the Supreme Court could have ruled for that but didn't. Instead they returned it to the State level. That's totally in keeping with "life and death" questions belong at the lowest possible level of government, closest to the people. My daughter, sister-in-law, and my Mother are all pro-abortion but are strong conservatives (for them the privacy issue is very strong). I oppose abortion, generally speaking, because too many are using it instead of birth control and you're killing human life. But I surely understand my home state voting to allow it. Nazis are not right wing. The very name has Socialist within it. Hitler was "running out of other people's money" (to quote Margaret Thatcher) when he invaded Poland and immediately transferred Polish gold and credit to Germany, and gave them as much of his debt as he could transfer. Hitler had free medical, schools, etc. the standard socialist model. He used the same tactics of secret police, no warrant arrests, etc. that would fit right in with either Communist China or the former Soviet Union. He also controlled the news media, just like the DNC does in America. Our schools are not balanced in explaining the differences, neither are any of the main stream media.

I'm veggie and the treatment of animals in slaughter houses is INSANELY important to me- but that doesn't mean I go around every day screaming about it, I'm not going to not hear out meat eaters, be friends with meat eaters, understand the norm of society is eating meat. We do make a difference there as well. I have participated in two peaceful protests decrying the suffering and deaths of laboratory animals. We didn't resort to blocking doors or roads, vandalize, verbally assault, or anything else that, in reality, is counterproductive. And clearly, you and I both recognize this. Like you, I won't give "bacon trolls" the time of day. They aren't worth acknowledgment. When you're mid 50s, healthy, and are not on any medications...people take note. And then eat humble pie. Keep doing what you're doing. The other species may never know all the things you undertook to help them survive, and that's OK. The important thing is that you are working on their behalf. 💚💚💚

You Hamas lovers have got a lot of nerve calling Palestinian losses “genocide.” I could've sworn I heard something in the news on October 7. Something about 1,400+ Israelis were killed and many more were injured, including women, infants, and the infirm. Then along came this ridiculous hostile demand that Israel ought not to retaliate, thereby allowing Hamas to regroup and have another go. When Hamas calls for the complete extermination of the Israeli people, believe them. Now Hamas sympathizers want a ceasefire. WTF?! That's rich. Hey, Hamas, that's not the way it works. You don't get to use children as human shields, build tunnels under hospitals, and divert humanitarian aid to build missiles that you lob unabated into Israel on nearly a daily basis. C'mon, now, did Hamas really expect that the IDF wouldn't defend Israel with all its might? Seriously? Seriously?! How utterly stupid and immoral can Hamas be?! Oh, and by the way, Hamas is still holding hostages, including children! No permanent ceasefire until ALL the hostages are released and Hamas surrenders. Islam is a death cult. tinyurl.com/2ph8fxhe

I suppose that would add up to a perverted version of "peace", once that goal has been accomplished & the Palestinians have no one left to attack, rape, kill, burn, blow up, etc.. But then, the same could be said of the Israelis finishing the fight right now, as well. Get out of the road & away from me, Wokey babies; ...read a book, learn a single true fact, think individually instead of as a 'movement', have a real problem to solve all on your very own by simply doing the best you can, see something of life & the world that doesn't depend on 'likes', learn to speak in real words instead of in an endless string of catch-phrases & slogans, realize that this world did not begin or even reach its peak of "totally amazing excellence" on the day of your birth. Maybe then somebody outside your own narrow age group will take you even slightly seriously.

    • If I used my body to block a doorway and wouldn't let you pass, we'd generally call that harassment. Speech is about being allowed to communicate. It doesn't guarantee your right to oppress others. You should probably work on improving your own understanding of protest. You might think that because violent protests are the antithesis of peaceful protests, that all protests that aren't violent are peaceful, but that's a fallacy. Not all non-violent protests are peaceful. Some are harassing, oppressive, disruptive, and rely on the use of force or intimidation, not unlike someone using their body to block a doorway or corner someone. You may like what you have to say, and you may have a right to say it, but you're not entitled to force others to listen to you.

In lauding Israel’s restraint in not yet having completely annihilated the Palestinians even as the IDF targets doctors and aid workers for assassination while bulldozing Palestinian cemeteries, Mr. Maher demonstrates that he is an idiot, a propagandist, or both. By viewing the earnest, if misguided attempts of those who oppose genocide to have our voices heard in any way we can as being good for a laugh, Bill loses sight of the fact that most of us are not advocating for hugs and kisses for the Islamists so much as we are objecting to our tax money funding their wanton slaughter by fascists. We may not love them, but we don’t hate them enough to want their blood on our hands, as apparently Mr. Maher doesn’t mind saying he does.

  • The title says, “Google fires 28 employees for protesting….we shouldn’t be laughing at this. Isn’t this a constitutional right freedom to protest? Even if we don’t agree? The lines are getting blurry, not good.

    • They protested on company grounds. If they'd done it on the street outside (on their day off) then perhaps it'd look like silencing. Firing some bums not doing their jobs and disrupting the workplace? It would have been done on the spot, but probably HR was waiting on legal advice on the wording of the termination notices

    • You didn't realize the constitutional right means that only the government can't infringe or prevent that right being exercised? A company can do what it wants. Those constitution rights protect the government from stopping you doing so

  • Looks like Bill Maher doing the same thing the Trump supporters do, it's called what about ism! Take criticism that has been flung at you and instead of properly responding to it with facts respond with what about this or what about that. Come on Bill I thought you were better than that

    • The two primary 'Collective Narcissist' cultures are Islam and Black culture. Narcissism is also the primary cause of crime...hence these two cultures dominate the crime and racism, from USA to Europe. All censored from the 'Woke' Covert Narcissists and Flying Monkeys for 30 years. Look out for the fake Narcissism articles by 'Woke' Covert Narcissists. The Left-wing media is printing a lot of fake psychology for their gullible narcissistic followers. Google pushes the fake psychology to the front, to con 'Woke' Narcissists. The real psychology is a few pages later. The pathological lies, involved in the Left's indoctrination, runs very deep. NB: Islam shares the same twisted 'Covert Narcissist' mindset as 'Woke' Narcissists...hence the toxic alliance. It's a pity 'Woke' Narcissists have Zero Self-Awareness, and struggle with Critical Thinking. #WokeNarcs #IslamicNarcs #BlackNarcs #TransgenderNarcs #FemaleNarcs #DarkTriadParsonalityDisorders #EvilLovesEvil #WokeMovement

That aside maybr if he wasn't fully on Israel side including saying if Benjamin Netanyahu was a dictator maybe thats what Israel needed then turn around and attack Trump( also WtF ) for wanting to be one (kinda screams hypocrisy....) I would have taken him more seriously
