If you have any standing water - water butts, bird baths, etc, drop pieces of copper pipe or pennies into the water. The copper kills the larvae.
No just algae

Oh that’s why people throw coins in and make a wish lmao 🤣
Wow thats awesome! I have plenty of copper tubing and pennies lol. I will definitely try it
Pennies since 1982 are only 2.5% copper, 97.5% zinc.
Used this inside of my apartment and within 2 days, mosquitoes were all but gone. It was worth the bit of smell. I also started using coils to keep new ones out at windows and entranceway. Will use this technique again towards the end of summer! Thanks!
Coils?
y dont u use window mesh
@@zacklarezmosquito coils. Think incense to repel mosquitoes. It's in the shape of a coil, about 6-7" diameter. You light one end and it smokes like incense. Usually has citronella in it. Sold in camping department and sometimes garden department. They do work.
@@renel7303 They work, but should not be used indoors.
Yeast, Sugar, warm water, black bucket and Dawn soap. Got it! Thanks so much!
I think unscented dish soap would be better than stinky Dawn soap. It's the C02 that attracts them. Adding a chemical smell might have a repellant effect.
No it's the combo of heat AND CO2 when i boil water I notice they start to swarm it
@@dd___dc They're attracted in this order: sight, C02, Heat. They also like the protection of a black bucket, and a lid or box. But, that was not my point. My point was about the chemical stink of Dawn dish soap.
What if we don’t have yeast
@@backcountrygamer7463 you'll get a yeast infection 🤔🤔🤣😭
for really stingy catchers out there, i use a dark pail/container which I fill with water which I use to water a few plants. Once I see multiple larvae, that is the only time I completely drain the container to water the plants.. while it is not an mosquito but a larvae killer, their reproduction is reduced.
It’s really important for us to do this now, at the start of mosquito season. I shudder to think how many new mosquitoes just *one* female can make; every one we can eliminate now means many fewer later. Thank you for sharing!
Considering that only the PREGNANT misquitos bite, plus she produces 100 - 200 eggs at one time, we really need to get started right now to stop those girls. We have a stock watering tank and to keep those pesky mosquitos from breeding in it we keep a couple goldfish in it. Been working good for 30 years. We also provide nesting perches in our loafing shed for barn swallows. It is fun to watch them in the evening as they dart and dive while hunting insects.
Thanks for the well researched simple method without hazardous chemicals.
so how long does this last before the yeast stops producing co2? does it stop when the water gets cold? Do you need a warming matt underneath the bucket?
Thx Jag for helping us alleviate these dangerous and pesky insects. Lots of bird houses on the property helps a lot, but not enough.
Glad you liked the video
You’ve only made one error in judgment. Mosquitoes don’t go to outer space. They are from outer space.

Jag, I am a mosquito aphrodisiac. They are the deadliest predator of humans. I thank you for your experimentation and helpful information for ridding my yard of mosquitoes. 😊

There is a product made of only garlic called Mosquito Barrier or Garlic Barrier. You mix with water in a sprayer or spray bottle and it smells like garlic bread for an hour but that fades and no mosquitoes! They are repelled by the allicin in the garlic. You have to reapply after every rain.
can we apply garlic to our skin also. bcz i dont like ddet
I've tried the garlic spray, it doesn't work very well. The black bucket yeast rig seems more effective. C02 rigs are the most effective, but very expensive, and seem to have mixed results.
To keep mosquitos off of you use lavender lotion & eucalyptus oil. Put abt a quarter size of lotion in your hand, then add abt 5 drops of eucalyptus oil to it. Rub your hands together & then rub it on all your exposed skin, even your neck & face. Works like a charm 😊
Are you a parrot? Jag already demonstrated this in the video ! 🙄

Thank you. It’s spring now in NY and the mosquitoes in my yard makes gardening somewhat challenging. I will definitely be trying this. 👩🌾
Use beets instead, they contain geosmin which is used to trap mosquitos for research, its at least a hundred times more effective than carbon dioxide or octenol for luring mosquitos, put some beet peels in your bug zapper as well and watch them swarm to it, between the black bucket and the bug zapper, its easy to eliminate a whole cycle in a days time.
@@4nciite Thank you. so very much for telling us that beets attract mosquitos. I had no idea. Now I will research this to learn more about it and try it.
"The whole universe will be in danger", hilarious!!!
I'm in Canada Zone 5 and in the last couple days the snow finally melted and the mosquitos are already up. In fact we had a couple buzzing around while there was still snow on the ground. Can't catch a break. Rip to the local birds but I'm about to deprive them of an early food source, at least on my own property. I got a whole jar of yeast and plenty of brown sugar, I'm ready to take out every mosquito that even thinks about coming over here
I appreciate that there's someone else who despises mosquitos and will try a bunch to get rid of them.
THANK YOU! & Thank You to the views who gave you those tips. This year in MA they have been horrible with all the rain! They have been blood letting me every time I step outside. I just bought the Mosquito floats for the lava and put out yesterday. I have them in clear bottles, so have to change that to black. I'm still getting bit while waiting for the cycle to reach the point where this takes them out. Now I don't have to wait & can use your yeast trap too to get the ones alive now.
Love your sense of humor. Thanks for sharing this info. I am going to make use of it.
Thanks so much for the info! Will use it! This also may help a bit also. Put a snug clear bucket in the black bucket so you can just pull it out to see them in the water. Use a strainer to see how many you got. The soap also is a nuro- poison so it dissolves their soft tissue as well as clogs their breathing ports.
The clear bucket is a great idea. Thanks!
Thanks for the update. Best wishes!
How often do you recommend changing the bucket water?
You are saving humanity brother. Be blessed.
Hi thanks for the hinter. Tool me 5 minutes to set it up. I had the bucket standing in corner filled with plants and was wondering why all those mosquitos came out of it when I removed a plant. Many thanks for the dead pests. Only a dead mosquito is a good one.
it's great because the thing I hate about gardening and being outside the most is the mosquito bites! Definitely will try this!
Mosquitoes don’t bite me, kinda forget they exist lol.
It helps to use a lemongrass soap or add lemongrass oil to your lotion. Lemon grass is true citronella.
@@sonialinsey8083 then why are you here?
@@katwilliams2950 I've seen mosquitoes land on citronella. Plants like Marigolds, Lemongrass, etc seem to have very little effect.
I have a tip for gnats that swarm your face. Put on a hat and put something tall in it. The annoying pests actually go to the top of the target (you are the target), and thus will stay clear of your face. I know it sounds stupid, but I tested it in my pasture. It worked. I was stunned. For black flies (biting fly that is bigger than a gnat, and smaller than a housefly) spread a product called “Save the Baby” wherever your clothing ends…collars, wrist, sleeves…as well as around your hairline. They like those protected margins. The product is similar to Vicks vapor rub, but works better. I don’t know why. I tested this in upstate NY and Virginia. It works.
i guess it's time to get a pointy wizard hat and become Gandalf with insect warding skills.

We rarely notice mosquitoes in our back yard. We have huge number of hummingbirds. It is early in season and only the scouts are here yet. Today the mosquitoes ate me up. The always go for me before anyone else. I have changed my shirt to a white one. I have put up additional hummer feeders. I am going to change out water in bird bath. Then I think I'll try the trap. Thanks for the tips!
this is really interesting, I'll give it a try. you mentioned attracting hummingbirds reduces the mosquito population, but so will attracting bats. I had never seen bat houses before I moved to south FL. they are great to have around as one bat needs to eat its body weight in flying insects every day!
Yes attracting bats also reduces mosquito population!
How do you make bat houses? Or can you buy them?
@@SuperManning11 I'm sure someone probably sells them, but the forestry service has plans online www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5292123.pdf they are fairly straightforward in design, you are simulating a space between bark and a tree which is where they naturally roost

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom and skills. God bless you
My bird bath gets fresh water daily, just in case larvae were left overnight. A few years ago I added a solar fountain thinking they would not lay their eggs in moving water, but they come out when the sun goes down. So, changing the water daily is a must. Also, I walk around my property and make sure anything containing even an inch of water gets dumped or covered. I will try this solution because with all the rain we've been getting, occasionally things get missed and they are out of control right now. Thanks!
Even dead leaves on the ground and the center cores of flowers hold enough water for mosquitoes to breed
I really enjoyed the explanation for the need of larva traps. I started using those this year for the first time and it's made a tremendous difference.
Glad it was helpful!
This looks hopeful. Living in Tennessee. I'm convinced the state bird is the mosquito. 😂

Nicely done my friend. Thanks for the demonstration.
I loved this video so much!! You have literally saved me a pint of blood this year.
🤣🤣
I am soooo going to try these traps out- thank you! And btw, if you get bitten, we have found that a dense paste of baking soda (w/ water) tends to soothe the itch for good- I usually put a tiny blob of paste right over the center of the bite, then place a band-aid over it to keep the paste on, usually for at least a few hours. It seems the most popular itch/bite products have the active ingredient of sodium bicarbonate, so this is how we came to try this remedy out :).
Far better to "bleed-out" all of the anti-coagulant, parasites, and other disease vectors by nicking the bite with an Exacto knife blade. Squeeze until it bleeds clean. No more itching or diseases.
Fabulous hummingbirds ! TFS Jag !😊
Did you know that mosquitoes do not like the scent of coconut? I’m a mosquito attractor when I visited my aunt in Thailand. She had a flower scented soap and that was bad news for me. I switched to coconut soap and voila. I no longer attracted mosquitoes.
What brand of coconut soap, please
Upper Texas gulf coast here, surrounded by thousands of acres of rice fields. when they flood the fields, there’s no “outside time” unless you have screened shelter or “toxify” yourself with repellents. Thank you for these safe suggestions.
How long will the water solution last before drying up or do you replace it every few days.
My guess it that it may last 5 days before we have to get new stuff.

Thank you bro!!! Very good video, the best I have ever seen for mosquito traps. 👍🏾
I live in Florida and am a native. Mosquitoes don't bite me and never have in my 60 years. But the buzzing can drive you nuts if you're out and about. One good way to stop that is to grow lavender, ( kills fleas too), lemon grass, lemon garlic, peppermint, sweet mint and spearmint. Either grow it in pots,(as it can become invasive), or place in planters around the patio area and it will stop the buzzing because the flying pests don't like the fragrant plants. Citronella doesn't work at all.
Informative AND hilarious. Well played sir. Well played.
Thank you for your service to the universe!
Thank you sir, love the information you share with us.
I came across your video and was curious. I stayed because your humor about mosquitos taking over the universe made me laugh. Good video.
Your hummingbirds are beautiful!
I put out two spartan mosquito traps, one on each side of my four acres. Have not had a single mosquito bite ever since. In the hotter part of the summer you need to add a little extra water to them. But by the end of the season the traps are so full of mosquitoes that it is a black sludge. I suspect it is the same as what he made but cost $20 for two. I also out mosquito pucks in the stream the goes through the property. Great video.
I just read that it’s not available to residents of CA
I am very happy I came across your video. The mosquitos last year were bad, this year worse. Desert summers are mostly to hot to open up, however toward the beginning and end there are days & evenings we can open up. I dare not due that now as they have gotten so bad. Being we are warm most year round I really need something to help. I am going to give this a try as I really want to open up. For my house plants I use Neem powder in the water, I bottom water and let the plant take up what it needs, so there is standing water for a short time. At least if they lay then the offspring will not be able to produce. Thank you for putting up this video. Have a great day.
Microbats do a fantastic job at my property in country Western Australia. I can see them at dusk over the dams. I need to build some bat boxes.

Good to know. This will be my first year living next to a pond (probably about 400 feet away) I guess I will need to make these traps. I didn't know that about hummingbirds, either. I loved them already--now I have one more reason.
What's your verdict of the mosquito trap?
Updates?
I had rain barrels in the garden near the house. When they are full of larvae easily seen swimming near the surface, I'd squirt some liquid soap into the barrel making it impossible for the larvae to breathe and they die. Mosquitos will use open water in broad daylight to lay eggs which hatch in a day or two.
My answer to the mosquito problem is, i walk over to my hammock with a electric fly swatter. I lay down and use my body to attract them. I swat lots of them. When I do this a few times, i don't get bothered the rest of the summer. Good video from Sacramento
There is actually an organic variant. Instead of all those chemicals, put a paradise fish (cold-water alternative to the betta) in the bucket. One such fish eats thousands of mosquitoes in nature. Some people make ponds with them in their gardens for this purpose.
what chemicals lol? dawn? yeast is a living bacteria and brown sugar is the least processed sugar. the mosquito bits and mosquito dunks that are so effective are a bacteria that infects and kills the larvae, of course fish will eat them too. nowhere in this video were any chemical pesticides mentioned or used
All the chemicals like…yeast? And sugar?
@@sonialinsey8083 😅😅

What is your recipe for anti itch cream please?
@@Isalsero1 I make a paste out of coconut oil and baking soda. Maybe 1/2 cup coconut oil and a few teaspoons of baking soda. Then I add a few teaspoons aloe that I blend at home (I think store bought is ok). Then about six drops each of tea tree and lavender essential oil, and a few drops of vitamin e. I buy a bottle of liquid vitamin e, or you can use vitamin capsules and squeeze the fluid in. :) It will be a little runny, so you take a little of this and put it on the bite and let it dry there before wiping it off with a damp cloth. If you have a lot of bites, an Epsom salt bath provides relief as well.
Great Info! Here in Thailand there are more than plenty of mosquitos - My family and I have suffered Dengue Fever and Chikungunya [crazy name but a terrible disease] . I've tried most commercially available anti mosquito devices - even gas warfare with a home fogging machine! Thanks to you Jag, I'm going to the hardware store tomorrow and getting a black bucket or three! And, I'm also going to have to change my predominately black T-shirt wardrobe I guess.... 😅
I'm on the rainforest side of Hawaii island. Very wet here, mosquitoes thrive year round. I read about mosquitoes being attracted to black / dark colors and started working in white long sleeve shirts and it did make a noticable difference. Plus a white shirt is cooler than black in the sun, which absorbs more heat. Bad breath and body odor also help mosquitoes find you faster, so I always brush my teeth and wash up before heading outside.
Yep in the south of the USA white and light colors especially in the summer very popular. Also makes it easier to see the mosquitos to swat them lol.
Did it work?

Not hot-water. 100F. is best. Too hot will kill the yeast. Ph is best at 5 to 7 but not a huge concern.

I never heard about using a black bucket but will try that. Right now I have a mosquito magnet in my backyard & it's been running since early spring. I will DEFINITELY try that after the mosquito spray from tonight's spray truck wears off!! I live next to a SWFTMUD drainage creek -- in Florida -- so it won't be long!! At least it's April and we are in the dry season, other than weekly "cold" fronts bringing a bit of rain here and there, so they aren't real bad -- YET!!

For personal defense, you can also tuck a scented dryer sheet somewhere into your clothes; the belt works best as it is about mid-level on your body. The scent interferes with the skeeters' ability to detect you. =^[.]^=

@@privatecaller1418Buying insects to kill insects is a gamble. Whether buying dragonflies or ladybugs, if you purchase a species not native to your region you may create a new problem with an invasive pest and these winged insects can easily fly away from where you wish them to be.
I will try these suggestions, thank you!
Dont even waste time with the yeast and brown sugar, just get several beets from the grocery store and blend them up in the blender and add the beet to the water in the black bucket along with some dawn, the beets contain a compound called Geosmin that is used by researchers to trap mosquitos, its found naturally in the soil and comes up in an aeroso form when it rains and that attracts the mosquitos, the mosquito larvae die in the bucket because the dawn prevents them from leaving when they mature. I use beet peels in my bug zapper and that attracts hundreds of thousands of mosquitos and stops the cycle after they die and the larvae die in the bucket. I'm going on two years now since I first used the beets and the mosquito population is still down to virtually nothing and last season had some record rain.
