  • Great video as always, I didn’t mind the music too much and I can see why you put it in as you had said all you could at that point.

    • I'm sure there would have been far more comments if I had left the 'ambient' sound track! 😂 Believe me, any genre of music is better than close up sandblasting, sped up sds chiselling, silent timelapse and hydraulic pecker on the digger.

  • There’s a railway+auto bridge spanning the Big River in my city that was started before and finished after WWI. In the late 80s it was given a full going over and refurbishment. If I remember the engineering report, roughly half the steel has been lost to oxidation before it was stripped down and recoated. It’s still in use for automobiles and trucks as a major artery, with the occaisional streetcar running the otherwise unused rail on the upper deck. It’s expected service life is many more decades of service, though with the diminished steel, plans to add an upper vehicle roadway were discontinued.

  • Hi all. Is the steelwork going to be blasted while the asbestos is still in place , which would seem a bit risky with the chance of fibres being released . Or have I got the wrong end of the stick as usual . Kind regards as always 👍

  • Just go for an epoxy primer Tim. Something like Jotun would do the trick, they paint ships with it! Will likely be a bit thick for your sprayer though :)

  • Ive used zinga "paint" on old cars with good results. Worth looking in to.

  • Instead of a battery, why not get yourself one of those little lithium boost packs? Sooner or later it'll be useful for other vehicles, and a dead battery is an extra layer of security to help stop the dumper going walkies

  • would have been an idea to weld plates on before repainting steel colums ??

    @DESTINY0ne@DESTINY0ne2 ай бұрын
    • Only one plate needed and welder not due for a couple of weeks so just a light coat that we can wire brush off when needed.

  • Just out of curiosity, why did you choose to get Tim back in to blast clean the steels rather than brushing on some paint stripper and then scrapping? Surely that would have been less costly and I can't imagine it would have taken a load more time

    @SamJohnH@SamJohnH2 ай бұрын
    • Paint stripper won't remove rust.

  • As a retired decorator I can't understand why folk remove perfectly sound paint that is not peeling or damaged to replace it with new paint , the fact that the paint has been there for years and hasn't deteriorated or peeled tells you everything.

    • More surface rust as you go up. I wouldn’t bother if it was a barn but if I’m going to spend all that time and money building the house why would I want to bury rusty steels in my walls.

  • I'm sure people's advice on paints is correct but why not use what your building regs document says to use???

      @dan7777@dan77772 ай бұрын
    • Perhaps not your preferred genre however if you had heard the original audio of deafening sandblasting, sds, digger pecker and silent timelapse, you would thank me! 😂
