If the dumper is Humpty Dumpty then that has got to be Guy Forks.
I’m saying Humpty Dumpty & Upsy Daisy
I was thinking daisy, like yours better
When parking the fork truck, don’t lower the forks flat to the floor, leave them a couple of inches raised and then tilt them slightly forward until the end of the forks just touch the ground. 👍
Humpty Dumpty & Forking Brilliant
Grand Ol' Duke of Fork?
Evening Tim. Re fork lift. Your luck is in . I drove one of these buggers in the 80's. Someone /you must be sitting in the driving seat to allow the truck to start. There will be a microswitch or contact switch to allow you to start the machine. The handbrake lever is also a safety feature. It must be on when the truck is ticking over. Best to have it on when you are lifting anything. The black knob with the white dot was what they called a strangler. Pull it up and hold it up till the engine cut out. It may not work now because they upgraded the one i drove to a simple on of switch like the one you used in the clip. Finally i noticed the tyres look like solid rubber tyres if they are they are not much cop in the wet (no Grip). That's it for now. Later..Lancerlot.for the fork lift.
Good to know. The engine pull kill switch is down below seat so maybe it’s replaced the dash one. Did a great job unloading pallets of a lorry yesterday and new brakes are reassuring too. Pretty sure it will be worth having around for the next year or two even if he is a ‘character’ to start. They are all pneumatic tyres which was one reason I thought it would manage rougher ground. Not that much grip but just a case of being sensible on where not to go!
Surely it’s got to be Bruce, as he’s the boss!
Then when it goes wrong it is BS?
Best name I can think of is 'Dave'. Maybe that's because Dave used to give me a lift to work! :)
Looks like a decent machine. They're so handy and easy to use but forklifts are also very accident prone machines if you let your guard down, so make sure everyone stays safe on and around it!
now is the time to get some life insurance.
Reverse beeper and flashing beacon plus lights for winter , would be additions i would make. Best of luck with new purchase , handy for a multitude of tasks
I can see holes in the roof soon, You should have gone for a forklift with free, or unrestricted lift: the forks go right to the top of the mast section befor the next mast goes up. You have a restricted lift where the mast raises as well as the forks. Not a good thing if under cover. I know it costs more but I think you would have gotten more out of a front loader/telehandler.
The hydraulic tank cap is probably just a replacement but the dipstick does look a little short, almost the length of the filler tube so maybe not the right one. I'll take a guess from looking at the video that the minimum mark on the dipstick will even be too full. You need room in the tank to accommodate the oil volume in the hydraulic cylinders cycling the oil back to the tank. I think someone has overfilled it then when you cycled the cylinders it spilled through the vent on the oil cap. I'd aim to keep the oil level at the very lowest point of that dipstick and you'll be fine. 👍
My only tip for forklifts on gravel surfaces, try to avoid getting into the practice of pre-steering the rears when you’re not moving… Its very handy for tight manuevering on concrete or tarmac, but it’s way to easy for those steer tires to dig holes, which can with low-clearance machines get you stuck, particularly if the ground is soft or loose.
The glow plugs are the other side from where you were looking. One for each cylinder and they've got a strip of metal bolted along the top giving the positive connection (wire on one end). The oil tank needs maybe an inch of space at the top of the tank (not the filler) to allow for expansion when hot.
One survey nail down😉 that’s why a good surveyor always puts lots around a site.
had a pressure pad in the seat on the fork truck I used to use in my old warehouse days pal. wouldn't start unless there was something on the seat 👍🏼
I think you should call it Mr Prongs !
Il would suggest Upty Lifty 😁
The shiny cap also acts as a vent for the oil tank to allow air in and out as the oil level changes so it would allow excess oil to flow out the cap👍
With Humpty Dumpty, how about Lifty Shifty? Perfectly describes its working life! Either that or Mrs Nesbit.
yes light evenings, great!
There is actually a reason for two foot brakes, they both have a different function - one is a brake pedal and the other is a clutch brake. You push the clutch brake while lifting a load to increase the rpm of the hydraulic pump by pressing on the fuel pedal and lifting at the same time. This disengages drive gear and you raise rpm to speed up the lifting speed.
I have that on the dumper but it appeared both brake pedals on the forklift are joined and only go down together. I’ve just been putting drive to neutral to rev the fork speed up when needed.
Probably got split braking for each front wheel @@TheRestorationCouple
Get that dog a high vis! Perfectly camouflaged against that floor. 18:15
Hi all How about Lifty Shifty . Sounds about right to go with Humpty Dumpty . Kind regards 😀👍
Lancelot, quite appropriate for when you poke holes in things. 😊
Given the female component of Restoration Family I quite like Lily the Lift as most of the machines, in the wild, that get names predominantly get male-centric names. It’s time for ‘one for the girls’. 😉
Sir liftalot!
23:00 nice wee grading bucket. :)
Worked great. 👍
Humpty Dumpty and Lofty, the rusty duo out to cause mischief and shinnanighans when you don't need the drama.
Guy Forks
Lifty Larry for the forklift
Now here is a good idea. Teach Jo to drive it a get a man cage to lift you to high jobs. Dont forget a harness.
Or maybe Shifty Lifty 😂
Sir Lancer-lifta-lot 🤴
Nifty McLifty!
Just a thought… do farm/construction plant machines need to comply to any Health & Safety requirements, and what effect does that have on any insurance? We looked at getting an old crane for the boatyard but it wouldn’t pass any modern safety requirements ie. Load and tilt alarms etc which meant we would not be covered by any public liability insurance and we could also be open to a host of legal claims in case of injury etc. Wouldn’t spending more on a tele-lift or mini-handler the smaller version of the tele-handler be more suitable as they will be fitted with upto date safety features and would be more stable in a farm/construction environment. You could always sell the machine after the construction is complete to get your investment back?
Can I suggest maybe "The old Forker"😊
Swifty Lifty
Need half decent lights on forklift for next winter and reversing beeper for safety and you can never have enough concrete blocks around a farm
The starting issue could be a glow plug or the fuel injectors leak back pipes (small braided flexible rubber hoses between the injectors)
Forky Mclifty, Forkzilla, Forkenstein
Lifty shifty would be good
Sometimes you won’t get ignition unless you’re sitting on the seat on some forklifts, what i recall,I think 😊
Tweety sounds good for it. 😂
I have spotted a problem. New windscreen wiper needed. Smearing everywhere 😁
Sir Lancelot is appropriate.
you dont force the forks down. forklifts drive from the front and steer from the rear, make sure there is no one around when you are lifting or dropping and be aware of the load tolerance and dont push it. you'll be fine. fork truck driver with 20 years experience
Called it Klaus, after the spoof 'Forklift driver Klaus' safety film on KZhead.
Sir lancer lot😊
big bess
“Fork-Off” sounds like a good name to me 😂
Humpty Dumpty and Lifty Shifty
I'd go for Freddy forks
Clive is a good name.
Call him "BOSSHOG!!"
Pull switch maybe choke we had an old austin choke pull cpld start.... could start in any weather.
Nifty Lifty
Lofty McLifty
Hi Tim, I think you named it yourself " Champ " Regards Jim.
Name suggestion - ‘Jack’ Ie Humpty Dumpty and Jack
given the like for leaks - Delilah
Freddie Forkury
Lancelot
Hows about Lancealoft
Sir Lancelot?
More like leakalot
Jamima
How about Lancalot
18:27 - Turbo chicken on the loose
Lofty
Easy to remember how about "FORKIE".
Sir Lancer Boss
Forky McFork Face (of course)!
If it’s the same as my little tractor - then those heater plugs fail - and they are cheap. So check you are getting your 12v when they key is in that position, if it is I’d just swap it out. They glow like a cigarette lighter, then at a certain temperature open a valve which lets the diesel in and ignites it.
Upsy Daisy, Tinkie Winkie, and all the rest of the gang from ‘In the night garden’ to join Humpty Dumpty. Forklift is Uspy Daisy.
Should have got a skid steer ideally with tracks, a lot more uses.
Limited lift though, that said it would be better on the rough ground. 👍
Three Metre Peter ?
Love it!
How about Lofty
What are you going to buy next? An old steamroller? ;)
might need new fuel filter for the hard start
NAME……..” humpty dumpy had a great fall, all the kings horse…….etc… One of the king horses that pulled King Charles carriage was named - MEG 😊
Got to be Humpty Dumpty and lifty nifty
My old tradesman used to say “If you ain’t leaking hydraulic oil then you ain’t got any hydraulic oil”
Lofty Lifty?? McLifity?
Cant have built that bad a stuff be if they are still working 30+ years later 😂
Franky the forklift
You need to get a few woofers
How about 'Ellie'? (elevates)
That truck is a 7 ton lift. The model number tells you. The D is for diesel. I forget what the M means. I believe they were made in the 70's. If you find the data plate it should tell you. Looks like it could be under the drivers seat in the foot well. :ancerboss was bought out by Jungheinrich at some point in the 90's.
No date on the plate and looks like lift is3.5t from memory but fine for what we need.
That's ok saying it's a 3.5 ton lift. But don't forget that's at a given load centre. And also only to a certain height. Capacity also depends on the forks fitted. As always with a forklift, lift as little as you have to to as little height you need for as short a time as possible. And always leave them with the forks properly on the floor. Make sure your happy with it's supposed capacity then half it due to its age
Shifty
The forklift will be named Bruce! (because, you know, the boss... Springsteen...) (or Lifty)
Why didn't you try amd get telehandler?? Multi purpose machine and two machines for the price of one. However forklift looks good.
Price. Though it sounds like he over paid a bit for this very old forklift.
We will have a telehandler on site for roofing but most of the ones in budget were too big for everyday use around the farm. Would have been handy for occasional use on the fields but others locally if and when needed.
Pretty sure that's the one I seen on marketplace. Very nearly brought it for my yard. Did the old I'll message about that later and it was gone
I had been bidding on it at the auction a week previous but then it was back in the next weeks sale so thought it might be a duff, so when on FB I thought it was worth having a look even if just until we can get a telehandler. Pretty sure it will do most of what we need around the build though, then he’s all yours! 😂
Have you considered the water shedding effect of that concrete you removed. I’m concerned that the dirt left behind with rainwater will overload that retaining wall. Maybe tarp it until rainy season is over. Is rainy season ever over in England?
Yes thought the same. It had got some holes in the wall by the looks of it but may well put in a drainage run along it while doing other jobs that end.
Must watch out for Maggie when you are in the building as on the first shots she was camouflaged and could only just make her out against the floor.
Lance
Forky McForkface
Nifty Lifty?
How about calling it Sancho , Don Quixote's squire.
Got to be “LancerLot”
“Lurch” :)
