About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

Tracy is the most talented person I have met in a very long time. No matter what the project, OK let's go and get it done.
She’s amazing! Thank you 🙏 😊
I have to say that your little white dog absolutely loves Tracy...it is so sweet to watch.
Sasha adores Tracy 😊😊
Love the shot of the wild flowers coming up the driveway! Beautiful!
Thank you 🙏 😊
It’s amazing how much detailed work is required to get the shutter hinges just right on an old building: Respect! LaLacelle did a great job in choosing Terry and his family!
Thank you 🙏 😊
Just think in another 2yrs what challenges the family will conquer and looking back on what you have already conquered. Having the transformation on video will be a part of history. So exciting 🤗
Oh Tracy, a woman after my own heart...the work we do comes from the heart, sure it's labor, but what a grand joy we receive from it, our work is beautiful and it sure makes a cup of tea(or beer) grand...good on you !
Thank you 🙏 😊
I do not know where Tracy to find all her energy. She is extraordinary. I am in love with her.
It’s such a relief to have those windows in figures crossed for next ones … now the shutters! How flipping awesome is that…
Thanks Maria :) 😊
The photo of the chateau with the wild flowers lining the new driveway is beautiful! With freshly painted windows and cleaned stone, it shows how much your hard work has accomplished in the last few months.
While it's all restoration work on the chateau, and I can see how it could be overwhelming (less so after a couple of years,) it must be satisfying to switch up your focus and see the various accomplishments (garden, windows, walls, moulding) coming together. You all work so hard, it's both a joy and an honor to be a virtual part of the team (even if it's only the cheering section.)
It is ;) thank you 🙏 😊
It will be interesting to see how life will evolve from being mainly restoration to becoming an operational hospitality business. I'm sure there will always be brocanting though 😄 (Sorry, Ash 😆)
Looking forward to the scaffolding being down and seeing the vast improvements that have been made. I see the careful work you all do and know the next generation will appreciate it.
Thanks Brett 😊
Amazing that you can still buy the shutter hangers. Great adaption. Garden and walkway looking great
Thanks Patricia 😊
Lots of even new build properties in France use shutters and it's full of old historic places, so there’s always a need!
The flower border looks really pretty on the path to the chateau😊.
Thanks Clare :) 😊
Always love a bit of wildflowerbordercam!
Also the lovely path that is cleared with woodchip on the beds. It's all very pretty. 😍
And the good thing the plants seed themselves every year
Looking amazing!
Everything is starting to look so clean and beautiful outside. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks Desire 😊😊
Just a comment - I would leave those shutter hinges black. It will not look wrong even if the volets are white, and the inevitable wear and chipping will not show. I left the entire metal work on mine black, it emphasis the attractive fastenings and gives a very crisp look against the painted wood.
Happy to see safety glasses on Terry!
😂😂 Thank you 🙏 😊
Jonathan is in charge of health and safety 👍
I admire your perfectionism and eye for minute details.
Thank you 😉😂
I will be so sad when you get the awnings done, so many people will have nothing to comment about 😂😢😅❤
😂😂😂👍
I love the wildflowers along the drive ….Well done Terry & Tracy! 🥰
You are all Jacks and Jill of all trades and transforming this beautiful Chateau!!! 🥰❤️🏰 How is Jonathan’s schooling coming along??? 🏫 ❤️😊
Lovely that you have visitors again for a couple of weeks👏🏻👏🏻🥰
It’s wonderful 😊
The last part of this vlog was pure joy I thought. Seeing Tracy cleaning up that area and looking happy and peaceful and the music you played with it was just perfect...
Shutter hinges look nice. Well done and prettying up the grounds is very noticeable. Lovely work as always ❤
Thank you 🙏 😊
A whole crew in to help....awesome!❤😊
Thanks Jo :)
I’m so delighted that you’ve agreed to start daily vlogs too. 👍
Y’all are so hard working and talented. I absolutely love your videos.❤❤❤
Thanks Patricia 😊
What a talented and hard working family! The accomplishments keep on coming! Well done!
Wow you are really getting things In shape fast
You guys are doing great work it looks gorgeous and your mom knows a lot she's a diamond in the making keep up the good work
Thanks Dane 😊
I'm from Portland Oregon and when you travel around the suburbs the country side here looks similar to France where you are. We are a Port of the Oregon Coast. We're only 45 minutes to the coast. So we get a lot of rain. But we get hot summer's too! Not much snow only the mountains do. Just a bit of comparison that France has countryside like Portland Oregon The Pacific Northwest part of America.
Hi Tracy, I learned something new this week! A master gardener told me that on Brick work like you are weed eating on to put Dow a layer of baking soda. It will kill weeds from growing back. She said to keep putting it over your bricks as needed. I can’t wait to try this. She said that it won’t kill flowers that are close to the paths! Best of luck! Your flowers always look beautiful! Have a super weekend, everyone!
Thank you. I’ll let her know 😊😊
Thanks for sharing. I have a formal garden and I am so happy to learn about this
Thank you will try that😊 thanks for the tip 👍👍
Great job on the shutter hinges, The gardens just keep becoming more beautiful, Blessings,
Tracy is awesomeness!
Terry you have done it again great job on the shutter hinge's, Tracy is a true legend no doubting that she put's her hand's on anything and as a go 😊, loving the drive way with the flower's in bloom welcoming anyone that visit's the chateau great video once again and on that note see you all soon take care 💕🌼🤗
Bravo on the chateau work... but may I add that I love your videos for the music choices and interspersed beauty shots. Never stop the drone shots! Such beautiful surroundings you have❤. Flowers, butterflies, pretty skies... le sigh. 😍
Thank you 🙏 😊
Yes, old carpet is the best weed suppresser, it’s also good to put on top of compost heaps to keep the warm in. Love the wildflowers 🌺🌸🌼
Great work on the shutter hinges! Have fun on the BBQ.
Thanks Dodi! Enjoy your eggplants 😊😊
YAY 🎉 🇨🇦 is back at the Chateau!!
I knew what floor Terry was working on by the condition of the windows.....
Thanks Jan :) 😊😊 me too 😂😂
Your vice should be bolted to the bench for effective use. Doesn't matter if securing it in that position is only temporary. Lots of little jobs required but the overall result is magnificent. All the garden works being done is uplifting. I keep thinking back to how you could hardly see the chateau. Best wishes.
PLEASE
It's looking beautiful. That's the way to do things, as low maintenance as possible - it's a big place with a lot of garden.
Well done on recreating the hinges! Plus, well done super Nana with your path. Sorry missed the live chat this evening! Love as always from County Durham xxx ❤
Thanks Glenys 😊
You really all do brilliant work restoring the chateau❤
Carpet is a fabulous sheet mulch and weed killer!! ❤❤❤ Love the garden work!!
You are doing an amazing job on the Chateau and the grounds. I heard you mention in older videos how the old windows didn't really fit the openings but I never really noticed it until you were putting the shutter bracket on downstairs.
Love your theme music ( whatever is playing when your mom is planting).
I'm in awe of all of your abilities. 💖 21:56
Thank you 🙏 😊
Love the flowers on both sides of the drive. They are lovely! I enjoy your videos so very much! ❤
Beautiful video!!! 🥰🎶🏰
Watching the transformation from old to new is so satisfying. The Chateau is going to look even more stunning.
Thank you 🙏 😊
Terry, I am so impressed with your skills!
It must be so satisfying to see so many major projects so well underway 👏 You are all so hardworking and creative. It's just fantastic to watch your journey! The old lady is truly starting to shine.
Your mam is amazing. You must be very proud of her. Xx
Terry, you are an extraordinary craftsman across so many disciplines. Thank you for sharing your dream and journey with us and guiding your family and friends to accomplish so much! Be well and be blessed!
(3) Thumbs-up 👍 👌 😊
Thanks Dale 😊😊
I've loved watching you all transform the buildings from the first video to here. Every time is see the front railing I laugh because they look a bit Phallic in design. Wishing you all the luck and willpower to get it all done.
I do hope and pray you buy new shutters so will last as long as the beautiful new windows.
Thanks Maria :) 😊
Brilliant job Terry
The windows look great as does the flowers along the front driveway. Great job all around. Looking forward to see seeing your next volunteers 😍😘
Brilliant video thank You 🌹💐🌹you all work so hard 🤗👍 Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
That’s great you have family arriving for a couple weeks. It’s amazing how much has changed since they were last there. The border area looks so good. Tracy is going to have the most beautiful gardens and eventually tons of flowers to have bouquets all over the chateau and cottage. You had better consider buying lots of vases every time you visit a brocante!!! Hugs to you all!!
And that's how it's done!
Thank you 🙏 😊
Just Loving your Videos Terry and the Music is Brilliant very Downtown Abbey 👌Tracy you never stop , Must Say it’s Looking Great 👍 Drive looks Amazing with the Flowers 👌👍👏👏👏👏👏💕💕💕💕
Esse Castelo é muito lindo! 😍 E quem o está devolvendo Vida é especial. Família Linda e Abençoada 💙
Love your videos always something different going on ❤
Visitors from Canada 🥳 well that news just made my week. Cheers to a fab weekend everyone 👋
Thank you 🙏 😊
Your skills are incredible! Oh man, how many people have a skill set like you? Not many.
But you’re doing fantastic. Wish I was there to help.
Stellar progress! I noticed that some of those ground window frames are a little ratty.... good project for next year, I guess
Thank you Georges :) 😊
Lovely look now to the brick pavement and the flower bed. I hope you have better luck with the bark mulch than I. The darn birds LOVE to come along and hurl the pieces away in their search for lovely grubs and beasties that love to live under it. I stopped buying and using bark/chipping and tried gravel ... they did the same thing!!!
Thank you 🙏 😊
Wow! That was quick!@@ashleywaters7198
Same here 😆
Looking better every day. It's amazing how getting those "little projects", (that as Terry stated, "we put off 4 the bigger 1's") can make such a difference & give us such satisfaction 😊. So cute 2 see Sasha lending a helping hand now 2❤. God bless all, See you Sunday.
job very well done Terry , the flapeturen ( flemish for shutters ) ;) will get there , deff strong hinges x
Thanks Yves 😊😊
Oh my gosh, Terry. You scared me to death when you were sitting on the scaffolding with your feet dangling! I saw that one foot was balanced on the window seal. But I could visualize it slipping and you sliding between the building and the scaffolding. I know you guys are super careful, but an old grandmother's heart stopped for a bit. 🫣
Oh it’s so exciting 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Ash, time to hit the beach 🏖 mate! Thomas!
At 15.50 the square red brick under bracket can you fill that with mortar so matches, dont forget to clean windows on outside before you take scaffolding down 😅
What a lovely job you made of the bolts. Well done.
Great to see the progress TGIF G & T time for all
Thanks Kenn! Beer for me 😂😂
Are you going to grow some hops and other grains and get some craft beer going there in your cafe down in the lower out buildings so that the worker staff has beer to drink after a long day/week of working?@@ashleywaters7198
@@ashleywaters7198you always manage to cheapen everything 😉🤦♂️
So that was what the "red carpet" was all about which we kept glimpsing to the side of the chateau! Good idea.
love the music
Thanks Joanne 😊
Good thing you got a robot mower. Put him to work. LoL
You guys are the Best youtubers ever
Thank you Eevi :) 😊
@@ashleywaters7198 your welcome
I agree!
@@safrew1 great
@@ashleywaters7198 im 17 years old and how old are you
Autumn is coming! 🍂 Our guys are wearing long trousers,👖 during the work 🪚⚒️. 😉👋 Without one of them 😊
So pretty
Thank you 🙏 😊
How is moss doing on the new entrance stonework? Or have I missed an update not sure I think I’ve watched all the episodes! Amazing work you guys!😊
Terry, you are Jack of all skills. Tracy, that walkway already looks so much better. You are a workhorse. Ash, picking up family is awesome. More hands to help. Have good times at the same time. Best wishes all.❤
Everything is looking great. I do have one suggestion and I’m not no pro at work…but since Terry has the scaffolding up there’s a few stone areas on the chateau near the windows that could use some pointing so water doesn’t seep in and cause water damage behind the walls? I think that’s what you call it? Calking in between the bricks/ stones? I’m thinking they can just be filled in?🤷🏻♀️
Evening Everyone 🥰
Evening Jasmine 😊
The old beautiful girl is looking fabulous fruits of all your labor!! God bless and love from texas 🇺🇸
Looking again at the iron work awnings over the doors - it would fit with the exterior if they were painted white like the windows then a slate roof like the rest of the chateau.
They couldn't support slates, they're made for glass.
I've got to imagine that bolting the vice clamp to the table is easier than lifting it up and down, but....home gym? Just please don't smash any toes! xo
Thanks Lora
Guys you are doing a wonderful job on the Chateau. Terry, the vice your using must be mounted to a bench top, this will make work so much easier. See drill holes at the bottom to enable you to fix to bench top. Keep up the good work
Thank you 🙏 😊
@@ashleywaters7198 can't wait to see the gardens and the suite that you have been working on done!
👏🌟👍🍀💐
❤❤❤
Maybe you ought to consider putting up a sound barrier against that highway? They use 8 to 12 feet high wood sound screens against highways here. I guess the residents comp-lained? Of course earthen berms or stone walls would work too. Even pise de terre, or tamped earth. Tamped earth could be a volunteer project? Maybe a very dense, deep, and high hedge? The sound was drowning you out.
I think they are planting trees and shrubs to make a natural sound barrier much nicer to look at and they probably wouldn't get permission for 8 foot screens
@@shirleyw8531 - At least the walled garden is away from the noise. Which side of the house are the guest rooms on? I think the 401 suite is on the entrance side where the noise is coming from? I don't see why there would be a problem with "permission" to erect a screen. There are so many examples of walls on street edges already in France including high masonry perimeter walls around estates. There is so much development right to the property line too in those villages and towns and there isn't much difference between rural and urban development. Noise - even in the age of house and carts, may have been one of the reasons those walls were built, at least for some parts of them? Houses and wagons with iron rims can make a real racket especially on cobblestones. Way back even the romans knew how to use barriers to control sound. They used them around the forums in Rome. Horse and cart traffic noise was kept outside the forums. In some places in the old forums there are streets between two walls only with few doors to the enclosures. Ted and Anna on Bordeau life had to move a hedge wall on their renovated townhouse project when a neighbor complained (unreasonably apparently). He had a hedge but had to put up a wooden fence. They just need something to make most of the sound waves reflect away from the house. The shape of the barrier can make a difference too. It may have been way back when they said something about the noise and even the hedge? A hedge with a wall concealed within would be even better. Sound is made of many different wavelengths so no barrier blocks all of it. It also seems like common sense that walls would flank major roads and the towns would appreciate that. They sound like they are on a major highway?
I know you guys are full on busy, and I know you have to prioritise the work done, but I have to admit to being disappointed by your title this time! I was sure it meant you were doing the wrought iron that lead around each side of the tower, supporting the glass canopies above the doors! Each time I see that view of chateau, I think how fabulous it will look once they have been refurbished, and what a huge uplift it will be to the frontage overall... Having said that, you have all done such an amazing job so far. I can't wait to see it once the formal garden is in place, with those canopies done, and of course with the shutters back up; it is going to look absolutely beautiful!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow Tracey you rock it's looking amazing Welldone on the hinges Terry It's going to look absolutely gorgeous Johann South Africa ❤❤😊❤❤
Thanks Johann 😊
❤❤❤love it all guys
I was afraid that vise (vice) would drop on your feet the way you were juggling it around . Why not secure it to your workbench... way safer 🙈 Awesome work on the hinges!
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Martha :) 😊
