    • Well....I was a kid of the 1980s - and at least here in Europe they played them a LOT on most radio stations. So I would not call them underrated - they´re a great band - but they also sold a lot of records here and had a massive airtime on the radio

    • I a not quite as old as you, but i remember the 80es and its music. I always wonder when people talk about it as the greatest time ever. I was scared every day that the 3rd world war might break out. They were putting up nuclear missiles on both sides of the border only a few hundred kilometers from where I lived. People I knew were dying of AIDS, and I was struggling and working the most dangerous jobs just to avoid unemployment ... But at least we had the music. That was all we had and we loved it.

    • Creatively, I must say it was an amazing decade. Look up period between 82 and 87 and you'll see amazing number of new artists who are considered 'classic' these days. Also, shedload of really great movies! But in every other respect, it was a decade just like any other. People who rant about going back forget they would go back to decade of Andropov, Reagan, fucking Thatcher, hot nukes aimed everywhere, AIDS and original yuppies. And that's just of the top of my head. Time has tendency to filter out bad shit.

    • Interesting when you say 'no indirect contact with people' - I'd say there was more passing of phone/written messages via other people then, and I believe people wrote to each other more, and called more to organise meeting up face-to-face. I used to write to my best friend when I was away in university, that was in 1999, but I'd been in the habit since my childhood in the 80s; I still like letter-writing but think I'm in a minority now - people often seem too lazy/disorganised (hard to know which) to even text individually nowadays, more like "look at my Facebook/Twitter/Whattsapp message/status". It probably took more effort back in 80s to stay in contact with people whom you couldn't see in person, but then the contact you did have with them meant more as a result. Things like a friend/granny/uncle etc. whom you hadn't seen in months/years just unexpectedly showing up out of the blue on the doorstep for a visit for example, was a very common (in my parents' house at least) and welcome delight in the 80s - nowadays hardly anything is a surprise, we're so informed on other things/people. And a library + set of encyclopaediae was a decent alternative to the information provision of the internet (e.g. Wikipedia); I just went looking to buy a new general encyclodaedia a few months ago, only to find that apparently these are not really being made anymore, you're just directed to the internet version, which I think is a shame. So much has become virtual nowadays; back in the 80s it was mostly direct/physical, which I'd say is more satisfying, but limited compared to the possibilities of the internet. I like to go for a mix'n'match approach nowadays.

Ich war zu dieser Zeit Moderator von Radio Carinzia, ein Sender, der zu Tele Uno gehörte, der von Camporosso nähe Tarvisio an der italienischen Grenze ,deutschsprachiges Programm nach Österreich sendete. Wir sendeten auch an die gesamte obere Adria unser Radio Happy Holiday, das Urlauberprogramm von Radio Carinzia auf der Frequenz: 87,5 Megaherz. Und diesen Song habe ich rauf und runter gespielt. Einsame Klasse. Wo sind nur diese guten alten Zeiten mit dieser tollen Musik geblieben?

  • Viví los 80s disfrutando mucha de la música que hoy consideramos clásicos, y que en algunos casos como este, no valoraba tanto. Hoy a mediados de mis cincuentas no puedo evitar emocionarme con la inmensa calidad de grupos como Cock Robin y tantos otros, y la hermosa vida de aquellos años en que nos tratábamos cara a cara, y nos acompañaban tantos seres queridos que hoy son un recuerdo. Creo que esto último endulza aún más el recuerdo de esa época.
