This song was playing in a shopping centre I was walking through today. It caught me in an emotionally vulnerable moment and kt had me almost in tears. I had to retreat into a shop and crouch down at a bookshelf to pretend to look at a book to compose myself.

This song dropped when I was 21 and in the middle of a break-up - my first and hardest. Extraordinarily dark, yet comforting song. It remains with me to this day as a reminder - not for bad reasons at all, but that you can emerge from the darkest times eventually. Incredible song and one of the best music videos I've ever seen. RIP Colin Vearncombe - your music was nothing but extraordinary and you live on through it. Thank you.

За хитом, покорившим всю Европу, стоял уроженец Ливерпуля, автор и исполнитель Колин Вирнкоумб (26 мая 1962 г. р.). Как и многие другие молодые люди в Англии конца 1970-х, он мечтал о музыкальной славе. Его первый сингл "Human Features" был подписан как Black, потому что Колин решил, что его фамилию никто не запомнит. Он не является основателем английской рок-группы "Black", но долгое время сопровождая группу, для которой написал много песен и аранжировок, стал ассоциироваться с ней. И в конце концов стиль Колина перешёл в формат чёрно-белого, как бы подчернув его принадлежность к этой группе. Название группы "Блэк" стало сценическим псевдонимом Колина. История написания этой песни трагично-фантастична. Выпустив ещё пару неуспешных синглов, Колин Вирнкоумб оказался без поддержки лейблов. Он был разорён и едва мог позволить себе разве что хлеб и молоко. После смерти отца мать Колина слегла в больницу с сердечным приступом. После случившегося выкидыша его бросает жена. В добавок кредиторы выгоняют его из квартиры. И вот в это тяжёлое время, вернувшись из магазина, сидя на чемодане около своей уже бывшей квартиры, музыкант на клочке бумаги карандашом за 10 минут нацарапал полную горькой иронии песню под названием «Wonderful Life» ("Прекрасная жизнь")... Позже композиция была записана в ливерпульской студии за 300 фунтов, вышла на Ugly Man Records и достигла 72-го места в хит-параде. На Колина Вирнкоумба обратила внимание солидная звукозаписывающая контора A&M. Был подписан контракт. Эта композиция, став супер-хитом в Англии, а затем и мировым хитом, помогла музыканту выбраться из нищеты, а присущий Вирнкоумбу романтизм сделал группу одной из самых популярных лирических групп в Великобритании. Diagnosed with cancer played wonderful life on repeat as I was wheeled to operating theatre many many years later im still standing up straight in the sunshine as the song saw me through the recovery and depression . Much better than all the pills an AWESOME experience. RIP Colin you saved my life.

I've just realised he died at 56 years old. Very sorry to hear this. Too young...This is such a great song with many memories and emotions attached. I married in 1987 the year this was playing, now I'm divorced after 35 years. Crazy, huh...It's a wonderful life...The lyrics are so bittersweet as he recorded this after his divorce. 💔

My Husband, sadly missed, said this song was about him. I tried so hard to be that friend for him, but never managed to get past the depression. He said that he wanted to be at peace, and now I pray that he is. Tried everything, but sometimes you just have to accept that sometimes no matter what you do, it cannot make it all go away. I'm so truly sorry to read of your loss, as your words indicate that this world has lost yet another loved one before their time. I heard this for the first time in '87 when I'd arrived in Australia, solo, and felt that every word applied to me at the time, but we forget that it's called 'Wonderful Life'. I was only here to recall a great song from my early days, and as luck would have it, I did stray in the sunshine, with many friends. Be strong alireed2009, the rainbow bridge sounds like a beautiful place to reunite, many years from now........

Because life is exactly the same as you described this song. Full of sorrow, suffering, very often unfair and, at the same time, offering beautiful views of nature, pleasant feelings when we love someone and are loved by others,etc... This song was playing in a shopping centre I was walking through today. It caught me in an emotionally vulnerable moment and kt had me almost in tears. I had to retreat into a shop and crouch down at a bookshelf to pretend to look at a book to compose myself.

This song dropped when I was 21 and in the middle of a break-up - my first and hardest. Extraordinarily dark, yet comforting song. It remains with me to this day as a reminder - not for bad reasons at all, but that you can emerge from the darkest times eventually. Incredible song and one of the best music videos I've ever seen. RIP Colin Vearncombe - your music was nothing but extraordinary and you live on through it. Thank you.

За хитом, покорившим всю Европу, стоял уроженец Ливерпуля, автор и исполнитель Колин Вирнкоумб (26 мая 1962 г. р.). Как и многие другие молодые люди в Англии конца 1970-х, он мечтал о музыкальной славе. Его первый сингл "Human Features" был подписан как Black, потому что Колин решил, что его фамилию никто не запомнит. Он не является основателем английской рок-группы "Black", но долгое время сопровождая группу, для которой написал много песен и аранжировок, стал ассоциироваться с ней. И в конце концов стиль Колина перешёл в формат чёрно-белого, как бы подчернув его принадлежность к этой группе. Название группы "Блэк" стало сценическим псевдонимом Колина. Diagnosed with cancer played wonderful life on repeat as I was wheeled to operating theatre many many years later im still standing up straight in the sunshine as the song saw me through the recovery and depression . Much better than all the pills an AWESOME experience. RIP Colin you saved my life.

I've just realised he died at 56 years old. Very sorry to hear this. Too young...This is such a great song with many memories and emotions attached. I married in 1987 the year this was playing, now I'm divorced after 35 years. Crazy, huh...It's a wonderful life...The lyrics are so bittersweet as he recorded this after his divorce. 💔
