Queen performing at Live Aid in front of 72,000 people in Wembley Stadium, London on the 13th July, 1985. The event was organised by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population.

I will never ever forget the beautiful sunny day at my Islington home, laying back on the grass, next to my BMX, looking up to (aged 15) hear Concorde break the sound barrier as it took Phil Collins to the USA, with Live Aid pumping out of every available radio, TV and car stereo as far as the ear could hear.. now thats living.. and as the benevolent day was, Freddie and Queen are.. and especially, this track, is unforgettable. The day will live forever, the only thing missing was my ticket to the event but I was there.. we all were and many now are too, many not even born then.. welcome family ❤️❤️🔥

    • I've been in 100,000 sporting events, in fact only a few weeks previous at Wembley when the rugby league final was on, no way was there only 72000 people at Wembley for Live Aid, i'd say over 120,000. Queen had sold 150,000 at Wembley in 1976 so I think it'd be closer to that than 72000

I may be agnostic, but I like to think that they're rocking out together now, fronting the best band in the afterlife. Jimi's on lead guitar; Chris Cornell's got rhythm and backing vocals; Cliff Burton's on bass, handing off to Lemmy when he wants a go; John Bonham and Neal Peart are having week long drum-offs, and Kurt Cobain's just layering some extra guitar noise over everything. This is an afterlife I could really get into.

  • I remember watching this in Texas live. It's amazing that everyone is still talking about Queen at Live Aid and don't mention any other bands. Freddie owned the world that day. RIP Freddie Mercury.

    • One of the few good things about being not young (ok, gotta say it, I’m old) is exactly what you said. Been to numerous live concerts both before and after cell phones. No comparison.     • Idk about everyone else, but I would pull out my phone for the same purpose there’s recordings of this concert. Documentation and for remembering, especially since I have a bad memory.
