I had fun making this small production run, nothing special or difficult,its was just a time crunch..
But I did it faster and manage to film one being made. So at least you could see some skew work.
Hope you'll enjoy.

  • Well there Tom , subscribe to your channel last night - fine job you are doing - I like the way you show every one what an how you turn . Here in West Virginia at one time you could sell a lot of hand made things, it’s all most come to a full stop - I am a long time wood turner - changed an became a cooper, buckets,beer stines an all sizes of wash tubs - people just don’t buy the stuff anymore-also had to raise the price to pay for the wood - a board pine 8’ x 10” x 3/4 “ is now $ 45.00 -if you go to craft shows an sell - prices for a spot is so high -can’t make a profit to buy the wood an rent a spot to sell -watching you turn cool an good luck

Mine came with a straight diagonal bevel edge. What kind of grinding wheel and grit do you use to sharpen your chisels? It is impressive to see your polished surfaces on your finished pieces. • I make something similar for the deck drains on our local ferry that get these as a plug for said drains when fuelling the ship. In my case there is a hole bored the length for a small retaining rope that fixes to a retaining ring above the drain. The ring is sized to hold the plug when not in use.

  • I have a cheap chinese lathe,( 1 " square tubing frame, 4 speeds) that has very little rigidity. Would it be possible for me to do work like you do with such a poor machine? I was goung to mount a circular saw to it, and use a tracer mechanism. I dont want to invest in lathe tools and all that constant sharpening, id rather scrape everything with carbide inserts, that i could make myself. At 70 years old, my hand strength is not half what it was. Thank you for your time.

    @richardmccann4815@richardmccann4815Ай бұрын
    • My husband upgraded my lathe for my 80th birthday and I’ve been using the ‘beast’ as my friend calls it for over 2 years. I have multiple physical problems but the hour or two spent most days at my lathe are fun. Don’t let a few years and a little weakness stand in your way. 😊 If you really need to cut every corner, those carbide bits can be sharpened a bit by laying them flat and rubbing them on a diamond hone.

      @DancingFox6@DancingFox6Ай бұрын
    • P.S. my first lathe could only change speeds by shifting belt and had no reverse. I’m on my 3rd now. I used to have to buy wood to turn but once people find out you’re a wooodturner they bring you all sorts of wood to turn.

      @DancingFox6@DancingFox6Ай бұрын
    • Well, ofcourse you can use that lathe and tools, nothing wrong with it as long as you use it safely, but be aware of that better more stable lathe will be more Pleasureble to use, also using tradicional tools will help you be more efficient with less effort,once you learn how to use it... Again, nothing wrong using your chinese lathe, but I think very soon you'll out grown it...🤗
