    • I like how he denied Magnus leading. He recognized that Magnus wanted to and still said "no", you are not ready yet. Making those hard calls in the face of social pressure is the type of person I want to be in the mountains with. Being able to say, "No, that is not a smart move right now and to stick to your guns." First rule of leading ice is "do not fall." Having somebody who is inexperienced with the tools and is used to falling on climbing gear might trust the situation too much and things could quickly go south.

    • Yeah, he seems like such a D bag. Like no dude, you can't lead. You've been ice climbing for 1 day and you still don't get how to swing a hammer. He's the type of over confident tool that ends up getting hurt, and then since he's a KZheadr, it gets media attention, and then they start imposing more regulations on ice climbing.

  • THANK YOU Magnus, for wearing a helmet! I see way too many pro climbers not wearing those, and I feel they might inspire other people to do the same, which is bad! You should wear a helmet while climbing, belaying and close to a crag. If rocks aren't a problem, someone might drop a quickdraw, carabiner or ice screw. Or a wild animal above the crag can drop a rock. You should wear a helmet! Life's much more valuable than looking 'cool' or the 50 bucks a helmet is worth. I'm glad to see you Magnus showing it!

  • Ah, what a great video! After the figure 4 stuff with Pete in the last video, and you guys briefly chatting about ice climbing, I was hoping there would be plans for ice climbing; just didn't realize it would be so soon :). It's also fantastic that you got to meet with Petra - she's such an inspiring climber! I really appreciate that you not only did the more "traditional" ice climbing, but to also highlight the comp-style as well. It's interesting in that it reminds you a lot of what you even see with bouldering/sport (how those disciplines also have their own particular comp style!). It's also amazing to see how much the ice picks can really hold. It can feel scary to commit at first but with good placements, it's quite bomber. Looking forward to this series!

  • That looks fun indeed, but tbh I've always been terrified by the fact that you're actually climbing with sharp blades on yourself: a friend of mine who was doing a dry tooling competition had the axe slip off an undercling and open his forehead in half, nothing too bad but 2 cm below it would have hit his eye... Honestly, who cares, I'm gonna try it anyway sooner or later!

The first climb I swear he even did a mini flag before remembering, oh yeah, I have stabby things in my foot I can just put them into the wall. I'd love to try ice climbing and I've finally moved to a place that has ice- fingers crossed for next winter.
