"Changes within power modes" ah yes, the wonders of AI, I wonder how laptops did it before today
By implementing features that the vast majority of people never touched, judging by all of the features of this laptop, it's not particularly geared towards enthusiasts, and it's more geared towards the average shopper or savvy shoppers who kind of know what to look for but aren't going to be poking around in settings all the time
RIGHT? LMAO
@@the_undead Windows automatically would manage the power. And if not Windows, then the Bios specific software. This provides literally nothing. AI is just a marketing term being thrown around here. It's not AI and it's not new.
Now it's AI, VR Ready, RGB, Gamer, X, and some other buzzword for good measure! :D
@@user-ds8rj2vc4vyeah. My laptop is almost 10 years old and it's always been doing such a thing. I just keep it at balanced in Windows settings and it just boosts and draws power accordingly to what I am doing. No AI bullshit or anything
Everything has AI in it's name nowadays, soon even my roof will have AI
If you got solar on your roof he'll yeah it will
can't wait for keyboards with AI in them so they can learn how to do a recorded macro in various different realistic ways or something
That's a great idea@@Psyden5757
it's just a marketing buzz word. A few years ago we hat smart home, smart fridge, smart TVs, etc. and now it's just AI. Still annoying af, especially considering none of this stuff actually AI...
@@ArckyWasAlreadyTaken Completely agree. I understand putting AI when it actually has considerable amounts in it, like Samsung's AI features. But having a small chip that handles only side AI tasks sounds like a bit much.
Also, please don't try to normalize soldered RAM on a giant freaking 16". XPS 15 had non-soldered RAM forever on a thin-n-lite, there's no excuse for this.
16" isn't giant, it's far from it but a swappable and bigger RAM is definitely needed
your username literally has the 2008 in the name, I'd bet you have not upgraded ram in anything ever
Can dedicated ram reach those speeds? I haven't seen that yet myself.
@@Z4KIUS CAMM2, anybody?
Exactly, strange enough is that the MSI Prestige ai evo 14” does have two sodimm slots, so there is really no excuse
With all due respect, this was a very good video and overview of this system. But $1,600 for a computer that essentially has integrated graphics is wild. Borderline Insanity.

I think at this point the absence of a headphone jack port on a laptop would be an actual dealbreaker..
There's definitely an headphone jack on this laptop ? It's on the right side with the sd reader and ethernet port. See the video at 1:16 .
@@chaddaifouche536 I think he means in general.
Edit: Disclaimer: Any rage you may feel from me from this comment should be directed to laptop manufacturers. Hey guys, there is one thing I never get from review videos. This is a suggestion possibly for the LABs. I never get a propper evaluation of the IO. There has been too many laptops, which when connected to a monitor, when i close them they just do not work as expected. When I set the windows to not turn off when the laptop lid closes, too many times, the laptop tied the graphic ports to the power supply of the monitor, so when the monitor turns off, the HDMI port turns off. There has been too many times, that a keyboard or power cord connected to a laptop has kept it awake when the lid was closed (when the setting was set to sleep on lid close or possibly sleep on lid close if there is no external monitor). There has been too many times when integrated and dedicated graphics cards DO NOT WORK TOGETHER at all. Like trying to force a GPU on a monitor/port for some app or forever is just not possible sometimes. And that is very important in the age of VR. And those issues are there even on so called VR ready laptops. This is never talked about in reviews. And quite frankly that would be one of the things I would watch the reviews for. The actual ports, I can search on the internet, the actual specs, I can search on the internet, but the reliability and the quality of the actual HW that was made by the actual company that sold me the laptop, not the build quality of the components they bought from intel/amd/nvidia. So I guess, there is nobody who actually reviews the "motherboards" of laptops. And I think that is actually something that is needed. Because right now, in budget class laptops, the companies are saving EVERY SINGLE PENNY they can to the point of detrement of the actual usability of the advertised features.
Commnenting to help the labs team see this suggestion. Sounds like something worth testing!
It's sad how superficial most tech reviews are. Often it's just a glorified spec sheet reading. Chinese content creators seem to be a lot more thorough than most western reviewers I've seen.
@@big-gloom Id like to believe Our voice matters doe. If enough people comment about something I have faith someone will adresss it. I mean so long as people are willing to speak up anyway.
According to Linus, sponsored videos are not reviews which just means they’re a lot less reliable than their already unreliable reviews
@@whitemask221 yeah I immediately click off of an LTT video if it says "sponsored" or "sent over" by any one company, because I can smell the bullshit. Not that they're lying about the product, they're just usually misrepresenting it
I really need to see some actual benchmarks for any kind of "AI" chip claim to hold water. It would be great to see a benchmark of something like the time it takes Stable Diffusion XL doing a set number of batches with the seed and prompt published as well.
The integrated Arc GPU is faster than the Intel NPU for AI stuff, and it's not fast. (Faster than CPU, though!) One nice thing is that the integrated GPU can use up to 16GB of system RAM, so it can actually be pretty quick for things like SDXL that need lots of space. The advantage of the NPU is that it is very, very efficient, so for stuff like the AI noise canceling it provides a measure of acceleration without slurping up battery. It's not useful for intensive AI tasks, though.
Second this. Would love to see especially inference speed running LLMs on NPUs. TFLOPs means nothing, tell me how many tokens per second we can infer on llama-3 in a certain quantization/bit depth.
iSomething -> Smart Something -> AI Something
It would be great to see a demonstration of stable diffusion 1.5 (something like A1111) running on "AI" hardware, with some time graphs for var. settings.
Well, the integrated Arc GPU is faster than the Intel NPU for AI stuff, and it's not fast. (Faster than CPU, though!) I saw some comparison and Arc gpu is around 1/2 slower than rtx4070 and using cpu with NPU is around 3/4 slower than using rtx 4070 but you may have more ram available for bigger models.
@@wojtekbroszczak7254 Well, I was talking about the integrated Arc GPU built into the Meteor Lake CPU in this laptop (in the video). :)
Please also do not forget inference speed (tokens/second) for smaller and bigger LLMs.
13:07 it's because Intel® Core™ Ultra can include Intel® Arc™ GPU tile with the SoC, cool! See the purple Intel® Arc™ badge, can't miss it, how'd you miss it? lol
It would be nice to see review of studio version with rtx graphic cards and maybe comparison to MSI stealth AI as one have 100W rtx and other 50W rtx.
I'm sick of everyone slapping AI sticker on everything. What we currently have can be barely called AI and changing power profiles has nothing to do with AI.
oh look they added the cool word to the name of the product!
would you consider covering the gabb phone and gabb phone plus. id also like to see you try to get games or apps that you aren’t supposed to be able to get on these phones.
I suppose the big gap where the GPU would go probably explains why the numpad felt squishier than the rest of the frame.
2:48 I understood "adding 3 to 400 grand" the first time 😂
Please do a acer nitro 17 ryzen review
i really like the prestige 14. but that heat when when you're doing stuff with the gpu.....😑😑
does it exaust the air out the back, i want to put this in a enclosed space (airflow blocked by sides but open in front/back) and how hot does it get when light gaming?
Do you need to enable HDR to get full use of a OLED monitor?
When's the XPS 16 review coming lads?
None of the msi links work from the description, just went to try them and the all return 500 server error.
13:52 I thought OLED Panels consume less energy because they can turn off individual pixels when you look at a black screen. But I wouldn't even consider buying this laptop just because the RAM is soldered down. Why don't you at least use CAMM2 modules?
no OLEDs are more power hungry because of the backlight/lighting technology iirc
@@12100F OLEDs don't have backlights
OLED power consumption is highly dependent on the colors and brightness being displayed. So if you spend all day in light mode looking at white documents and webpages at high brightness (which is a fairly common use case), it's more power hungry than LCD. If you mostly stick to dark mode and moderate brightness it can be comparable, although some LCDs are crazy efficient, there are 1 watt LCDs out there. On the other hand there's mini LED which can be pretty power hungry as well.
@@20NBA01 indeed, that's why I stipulated lighting instead of just backlight. Each pixel is its own backlight, resulting in quite a lot of power expenditure.
@@20NBA01 They sort of do. The Oled is the backlight. They currently dont have coloured oleds. They dont need the tft part of regular flat panels cause you can power/dimm every oled individually.
It's an MSI Laptop - I wonder if this 1 has the Bracket inside it for the 2nd M.2 u can put inside. cause i know my MSI bravo didn't come with it and no 1 else's did, u had to contact MSI for them to send it out. they didn't include it.
@LTT @anyone, does anyone know what app he used to get temperature of the laptop directly using his phone, no flir no other devices? What app was that?
Oh wow! What timing. I was looking for a review on this like yesterday!
Dont forget this is not a review. Just a first look, dont base your decision on just this video
@nixkdn I am aware. I have been debating between an MSI raider or stealth brand, and this review gave more insight on the "AI" functions of the laptop, which is what I was trying to find more about that feature specifically. I noticed on their website that they have a new AI artist engine that runs, I think, alongside the new AI engine that does really have a lot of videos on at the moment.
Will you guys review the Samsung Galaxy Book4?
no mention of battery life is kinda sus
doesn’t it mention 99.9whr battery
@@ritobrotobiswas that number doesn't tell you how long the battery will last during average usage

basically this is a promotional channel now
Yeah they are a more subtle version of QVC 😂 LMG as a whole isn't a trustworthy source anymore.
well shortcircuit is a product unboxing/first hands on review channel and they don't pretend otherwise, so what's the problem?
Rtx4060 32gb ram oled display all good, 😢but is it only 60 hertz?
Can we get a "ai-less" model of cpu just like F models that don't have igpu already cause I have no need for skynet.
Intel no can do, because it's part of chip. Unless they go AMD route and turn off that part on chip level like AMD did for Z1 lineup.
What about battery ?
5:08 Alex ALWAYS surprises me that he's the type to want/like a touchscreen on a windows laptop 🤔
watching him keep touching it with his finger was STRESSING me out. WHY

Would a intel core ultra 7 beat intel core i9 in AI performance?
Please review the MSI Titan HX 18❤😮
9:54 what app is that?
I know you covered this a bit at CES 2024, but i would like to see a short-circuit of the Omen 14 Transcend. Im curious about performance having a lower Wattage 40 series GPU
20% performance loss, go check ROG Flow Z13 (2023), they both have 65w 4060, and prestige16 uses a 55w one
everytime a laptop wich has LPDDR5 in the higher end of the pricerange comes out i wonder: why cant i get it with the official maximum memory size as on the specsheet of the chip producer for that cpu? the MISU Prestige 16 AI EVOS go pretty high with their other specs, but at least the offers ive seen all end on a maximum of 32 out of according to intel 96 possible GB of ram, to stay within this example. Is there an engineering reason for it or just a lack in the customer base?
Anyone know what app he's using on his phone at 9:35?
I need AI air now
I know this is more like a tear down video... But they should implement a large language model benchmark for these new processors?

We don't want soldered ram on boards

Ill never understand IO in the back? isnt that anoying? i want my usb's on the left side
how was you using your phone to check the temps ?
The Pixel 8 Pro has a contactless temperature sensor built into the camera bar. A bit of a gimmick yes, but can sometimes come in handy.
sales pitch 101
11:07: Yeah... But what about the microphone?
Why would the feet not count into the thickness?
Hey, I don't know if this was just me, but I am hearing some echoing when Alex speaks , this might be at your attention already or there may be nothing you can do about it in the short term, but yk, just in case
WHY are we just adding A.I. to everything?
Why do some laptop manufacturers put the track pad to the left side instead of the center?
That way you can place your hands beside it and type. If it were in the center your right hand would constantly hit the trackpad while typing making it perform actions you don't want. Every manufacturer does it though. If you don't have a NUM-pad the trackpad is usually in the center, mostly the case on 13&14'' devices.
that model isnt the oled i heard the msi ips panel is really nice as well it should have an oled sticker below the display
There’s a sticker that says OLED 7:34

Why is the video at 24 fps?
Opinion Needeed !😊 I want to Buy a Graphics Card for my AMD Ryzen 3 3200g, A320m Motherboard ( Pcie gen 3 x16). I've 2 choices RTX 2060 super (founder's Edition) and RX 6600 both used and still in warrenty. I'll using for 1080p gaming, Coding, Video Editing Stuff. Please Guide Me.
i think you should go which ever of those GPUs is cheaper and then invest in a faster cpu cuz ur on 1080p
11:10 that's some interesting artifacts on your fingers with the display behind them
It's the AI
Can you guys pretty please mark "Battery" section on the timeline? Like "Teardown and battery life" or something
It's interesting how big of a difference 24 vs. 30 FPS makes. I was just mindlessly watching but after a few minutes I started wondering about the "stuttery" framerate. This weeks WAN show did pick up the discussion on 60 FPS videos as well, although I am quite sure that we don't need those. But 30 FPS are just way more pleasant on the eye than 24 FPS. So please get back to 30 FPS - This is no movie ^^ EDIT: This also doesn't look like a 1/48 shutter to me, as the motion blur is not strong enough for this frame rate. Also there seem to be some frame skips..? But maybe I am imagining things ^^
Where can I get that shirt?!

Which app is Alex using to record the laptop’s temperature?
it's the built in thermometer in the pixel 8 pro
Wouldn't sitting the laptop on top of neoprene, that it can sink into, cause heating issues, since the intake would be stifled, and it's a pretty good insulator? It might not cause any issues, just curious.
5:14 is it out of the box RAM usage of 11.1GB out of 32 installed?💀💀

Oh my goodness, that intro was the corniest joke ever and I love it 😂
Not bad at all. Do they have a non Intel version?
No wonder that a SPONSORED VIDEO (with review device AND PAYMENT) so basically a full blown ad, doesn't extensively rage about the SOLDERED RAM (like any sane source should on such a large device. )
We’ve had soldered ram since 2012 to cry about. Yeah shouldn’t be the norm but it’s been literally years of crying and no change.
@@xnyte Yes change. As far as I know razer actually began to socket RAM in their newer models (presumably because their customers annoyed them long enough to provoke an effect) So it's critically important to vocally criticize such things !

The logo on the inside is different to the outside. OCD overload.
Is a laptop with AMD R9-6980HX, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD, NVIDIA RTX 3080Ti 16GB still worth it for complex games in 2024 or in the next few years?
0:51 Doesn't Stable Diffusion rely on millions of copyright images? Or a database compiled from them that has to be stored in a server and not sold to customers because it's full of copyright material and its abstractions?
Takeshi off the ai marketing and you have a 800 dollars laptop😅
so what does the AI do exactly here?
I think the next version of Windows will properly use the AI capabilities of these laptops. For example, windows level upscaler (dlss/frs competitor), on device generative AI with copilot and AI features sprinkled in app like Photoshop, Teams, Paint, office products, etc
I know you guys sadly dont publish in 60fps, but this video is extra stuttery :(
I thought so too! I thought maybe it was just my TV that I was watching on ,but same thing on my phone ! It's hard to watch honestly

I’m confused, New Egg is saying this laptop is an IPS display at this price point…
Is this 24fps?
Yeah it sure is. It's so jarring to watch whenever they make this mistake!
I would prefer actually 60fps @@JackWangila
Yup, it is. 30 FPS is totally fine usually. I think the killer in this video MIGHT be that it MIGHT be shot in 30 FPS but "converted" to 24 FPS which leads to frame skips. 24 FPS work just fine in movies and I didn't expect this to feel that bad. It might be the shutter angle, it might be the potential framerate conversion or just the low framerate it itself. However, I hope that no more videos are being released like that.
Kinda dumb that we dont just have two batteries in parallel to get past the 99.9 limit. You can bring as many other devices with batteries as you want on tbe plane, including you know banks of extra batteries lol. Why not have one more in the laptop. Am i going to have to make sure to unplug and seperate my Framework 16 expansion bay battery so that its a different "device" and doesnt break the flight rules haha.
i remember in 2003 asus AI motherboards 😂
Is there a way to switch off the AI controlling the power mode of the laptop? I know that AI inclusion is fast becoming the norm for so much these days, but personally I wouldn't mind nearly as much if there was also a way to turn off or bypass any and all AI "features" or abilities and just go back to having a non-AI system. AI should always be an OPTION, not a mandatory inclusion that you can't get around.
You can manually switch the power modes - no problem. I have the 13 inch Version of this one and must say that the AI feature is quite decent for this though.
Something is up with the framerate on this vid guys, idk why but its definitely slower than your other uploads
So is AI the new "game ready" word of this year?

That 13 inch is one of the oddest-looking Asus Zenbooks I've ever seen.
