fun fact: if you put literally everything in a level at a wrong spot (including everything that's already there and you can move) you get a dark star - collect all the dark stars and you get a different ending
just to confirm if anyone else is wondering, yes this is an actual thing, there's even two other of the chicken toys you only get to see while playing in a dark star mode playthrough because some of the level layouts are slightly different because they use the previous level's end as part of their start.

Yeah, like, I need to see what I have, so I can plan out where everything goes. There's way less moving stuff around to find a new place for it (because it doesn't fit where I originally put it) that way edit: also, the boxes get in the way

I'm the same way! I unpack everything FIRST so it's all done and ready and a box is completely EMPTY! Glad Dan does it right! It's so much more satisfying for my OCD!🤣

Eh, tbf she moved in with a man previously. I had thought her mom was moving in with her at first. The photo she kept of the guy and the shared bedroom in his apartment make it pretty clear that they were in an intimate relationship. Maybe she was bi, maybe she took a while to realize that she was never into men to begin with. Regardless, I can see why it took a sec to realize that it was her gay partner moving in.

somehow a lot of people i watched playing this missed that detail and i can't believe it when the game made it a point up until then to give you the same boxes through the years
@@3nowStorm i mean yeah i can understand that, but the shift from brown to white stands out a lot, enough to wonder if something's up. that and game logic where details like this often are used to point out things to notice like something you can interact with or things they want you to remember for one reason or another. it's more the fact that no one i watched seemed to wonder why boxes were different until a good while into the level because of what they were unpacking.
@@faeb.9618 I'm going to be honest, I've watched more people than I'd like to admit play this game, and it never once even registered that the boxes were even different colors. They're boxes. Unless you're fancy as fuck, you just reuse whatever you have on hand.
i really do like that they gave the mc back pain bc she’s a professional artist
part of its likely that, but if you notice the rock climbing gear and sports equipment suddenly disappear about the same time she starts having pain meds and mobility/health aids around the house, so there's a theory that an injury happened as well as the usual artist pains of the back problems and wrist brace appearing over the years. only the devs know for sure, but its all great bits of environmental storytelling.

@@meepbeep2464 repetitive stress injuries from sitting too long in one position and typing or drawing for long hours can build up, lots of people think of carpal tunnel syndrome but forget what a bad unsupportive chair or sitting like a caveman hunched over your desk for hours at a time can do to your lower back. its part of why those adjustable desks that raise up so you can sit or stand have become more popular so people have options to change positions while working. reminding yourself to take breaks is important though, change positions, go for a walk around the room, stretch and shake out a little so that you don't cramp up and have less fatigue and less damage from sitting and working long stretches of time. also goes for gamers and office workers, we all do horrible things to our bodies without realizing it and find out only after your hands start getting tingly and numb once in a while, or you start getting back and leg pains. gotta take care of yourself so you can do what ya love longer!

Unpacking: calm and relaxing game about a woman growing up, and going through all the ups and downs that life gives her all told through fantastic environmental story telling. RT: Being screamed at by his chat for his psychotic unpacking method, and realizes he’s in the minority on where you put your underwear.

I actually agree with Dan's method for unpacking. It's nice to see everything so you can properly organize it in the end instead of having to rearrange later when you unpack another item and realize it belongs in the area where you already put a different item.

It works fine for a lot of items, but I will never forgive Dan for putting the silverware and toothbrush on the floor.
There's not much need for it in this game since you can immediately teleport everything in place if you want two things to trade places. In real life though, it's the optimal way of doing things because of how much time and effort it takes to switch things around once everything is in place.
I just have to take a moment to appreciate how the inclusion of the back pain device being followed by the cane and the shower pad is just incredible subtle storytelling

My grandpa had some problems regarding it in the tub, so he literally just sit on a board that he put on the sides of the tub, the board in question was from the walls of his sister's old house that was demolished ( The house was like 60 years old ). I love that we followed this vibrant young Jewish woman from university, to our first problematic relationship, into some health issues (relatable), back to her parents', out on her own for the first time into a space with older appliances (relatable), getting a better job and better stuff, coming to terms with her sexuality, starting a healthy family together

I just joined John and Hank Green's Awesome Socks Club this month. All of my other socks are gray and from Costco 12 packs. I feel validated for spending 13 dollars on a pair of socks. @@liamsgreatbitgaming Instead of the gold star you get at the end of each level for putting everything away all nice and neat, you can earn a dark star and a unique album blurb for putting everything in the wrong place. The game doesn't tell you this, the devs put out a video explaining it.
As far as the scrubbing brush goes I use one to reach my whole body. I'm disabled and have a hard time reaching behind me. A scrubbing brush gives me the reach I need to wash my body c:

People will rent out bedrooms of a large apartment to split the bill and cut costs. It's a common thing, especially with young adults and students. Affordable apartments can be rare.
Apparently people have misinterpreted something and I'm not sure how: For some reason Europeans seem to notice the one place (the sorta college/post-college room) and come to the conclusion that they're moved in with ONE other person in a way that they think it's a close relationship of some kind. As the comments have pointed out, that's not the case.
I'm the exact same way when organizing so this felt relaxing more then anything When the objects are in front of me I just have a more solid idea of the space they take up in the room

I unpacked the same way dan did in this game, it feels way more satisfying to have everything laid out then tackle portions of it at a time. My smooth brain understands it better

Dan’s unpacking method of taking everything out then organizing the clutter really scratched an itch in my brain. This is definitely the most satisfying playthrough of this game that I’ve seen (as long as I ignore the last kitchen)
YES! I totally agree about the method of cleaning of taking everything out and putting it in a place you will need to be. It takes way less effort to move everything to one place then put it all away so if you have troubles with motivation it helps, then if you want to stop and procrastinate you HAVE to clean.

The great thing about this is that the calming, peaceful OST of this game is done by Jeff van Dyck, who is also known for making most of the early total war games OST’s too. Quite a departure from what he had done before.
FYI this process has a name... its a technique called Knolling. Its specific technique for sorting and grouping objects for optimal use/storage/examination.

One of my favorite things about watching you play games is we get nonsense like "bug bomb the baby light it on fire burn the blinds down" mixed with genuinely adorable and heartfelt moments of appreciating the game and what it's looking to say and like, you expressing how you wanna be a dad and you'd make a good dad. Idk it's just really sweet and this video brightened my day

I actually love rts style of unpacking as you get to see a extremely messy room become clean
about the colorful sock thing, i take it a step further and deliberately never wear a matching pair of socks lol. no one else has to know about it if i dont want, its just a fun thing for me.
