We filmed a REAL Godzilla Lizard off the coast of Fernandina in the Galapagos!
Yes you read that correct, we're talking about giant marine iguanas that have adapted over millions of years to become on the only lizards on earth to explore the ocean. Recently the largest of these lizards was officially designated as the “Godzilla Iguana” with a scientific name of Amblyrhynchus cristatus godzilla - which we filmed off the coast of San Cristobal Island, on land. However, for this video we geared up for the ultimate scuba diving expedition off Fernandina Island to film deep diving marine iguanas underwater!
BIG NEWS! Brave Wilderness is making our first movie which we filmed in the Galapagos over 9 days of production with our partners Re:Wild.org and La Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco. In celebration of Earth Day 2023 we've included exclusive first looks of the film at the end of this video!

This video was without a doubt one of the best wildlife videos I’ve seen this year, and probably in a long time before that too. The editing and pacing were top notch, if ever we needed a reminder why you guys are on top, this is it. I can’t wait to see the movie, I adore the concept and the footage looks unbelievable already. Definitely getting me hyped to be in the Galápagos in a few weeks!
Thank you 🙏
👋💕💕😢👋👋

That was beautiful that’s was your guys best video yet I can’t wait to the next video you guys make 👍🏻🥰💕❤️

4:15 The fact that he literally swims like Godzilla is so cool
you mean godzilla swims like him
@@pvzpbno, he swims like Godzilla
Godzilla swims like him. Not the other way around.
@@ashklean4121 Me personally, I think that they both swim like Godzilla. But that's just me.
@@pvzpb had to ruin the comment
Appreciate you guys risking it all to bring us this footage!
That's not risking much ... just ... hedonism for people entirely disconnected from the world of survivalists, neotribals and neonationalists, but eh, not like most of you dont live in a neoliberal hellhole hive city anyway.
6:39 LOOK AT THIS ITS LITERALLY GODZILLA OMG!!!
The definition of a bucket list adventure. Great job Mark and crew!
Fun fact: the kaiju 'Zilla' in the 1998 Godzilla remake is a mutated marine iguana.
Yep my favorite version of godzilla
We don’t talk about Zilla
@@SomeRandomCat205-xm5wwbro shut up already
@@SomeRandomCat205-xm5wwGood design but not a true godzilla 😂
Note: Zilla is NOT part of the gojira genius
3:29 Funny to see the divers being tossed around like ragdolls in the tide and the iguana just sitting there eating like nothing's happening. lol
I've never seen a lizard that big before and it really looks like a mini Godzilla.
Search up the Komodo dragon. You will see a bigger lizard
@@matthewandoni4935 yeah ik it. Bruha hes so big
Godzilla could be seen as a mutated lizard but the fact there is a water lizard that looks exactly like a baby Godzilla is scary
@@jonathanoxlade4252in the american 1999 godzilla i beleive it was straight up shown to evolve from Some iguana
I bet godzilla is inspired by this creature
Whoa, who woulda thought that Godzilla's actual real life power is snot rockets?!? Congrats on production of 'Reef to Ridge' too! Looking forward to seeing it Brave Wilderness team!
Instead of atomic breath its sodium nasal blast!
they worked so hard in such a risky situation for a 10 minute video. give these guys credit.
The divers were well deserving of a good case of beer for all that work. 🤗🤗And being tossed around in that current was a real pain in the rush too. 😐 They did a good job of it .
The Godzilla he’s referring to is actually Zilla, from the 1998 film.
I have had the pleasure of going in the galapagos in my life and my god, i wish i can go back just to experience it again. I do have family that lives on the islands and just to say, words cannot describe what its like to be there. I never knew how such differences in nature in such small islands could exist and i still cant fathom it to this day
I absolutely love this lizard. If this was allowed to be a pet, which I would always doubt, it would be awesome. I've been a fan of Godzilla for 5 years already. Appreciate you and your crew letting us get a view of them 👍
😳
@@frogboyclips Jk I mean 6 YEARS!
Mini Godzilla will grow 19999 years
@@leslygardose :(
It will eat you alive 😂
This was absolutely incredible! You did an amazing job filming this! The waves looked really strong. I'd love to hear more about the movie.
omg the tidal surges look so terrifying, you can imagine what the ancient greeks thought Charybdis was due to the crazy suction forces there were in the Ocean
This is truly one of the most astonishing wildlife videos I have ever seen! Thanks for all of your effort making this video to make us getting closer to our beautiful planet:)
Thank you for the wonderful feedback :)
that is so big its bigger than my papa🤭🤭🤭🤭
That was one hell of an episode
Thank you!
Amazing footage. A big thank you to all the divers involved for risking their wellbeing to get us the wonderful underwater scenes! The Iguana is stunning and so beautiful. Cannot wait for the movie!
This was AMAZING!!!! I love these lizards so it was awesome to see you guys doing this :D also congrats on the film!
I remember I used to watch David Attenborough's documentaries on reptiles as a kid. Was always fascinated when they covered the Galapagos islands and Komodo. Looking forward to see your movie these amazing places.
Absolutely beautiful! ❤
Marine iguanas are so cool 😂
Galapagos islands are just unique, Im proud of being Ecuadorian.
This truly is of amazing quality--both the filming and narration! I appreciate the effort and detail here, as someone who has visited the Galapagos once before.
Thank you 🙏

I am in the Galapagos islands right now and there are marine iguanas everywhere!
Where will your movie be available? You guys are the best!
A good timing to upload this video to hype the Godzilla fans. Because the new upcoming movie "Godzilla X Kong - The New Empire" is coming.
This is the one of the best videos of brave wilderness I’ve seen! The braveness of him is crazy. I could never do that!❤ Keep up the good videos and I respect that you do these crazy adventures for us thank you!❤❤❤
Being from Ecuador I am really looking forward to this movie, thanks for the content and the shoutout to the Galapagos National Park! It's really awesome
Finally, A Video That Feature An Animal That Inspired Gojira/Godzilla
Marine iguanas didn't inspire godzilla, only godzilla 1998 is a iguana
Wow!! They are so incredibly graceful!! 💚
One day this man is gonna cover a paranormal SCP in real life
I'm about to enter the bite zone, with specters and phantoms.
I hope for SCP-682
FINALLY! Something on Marine Iguanas! I love lizards! (Evidently) especially these guys, one of my favorites
The people always wonder what the alien world and alien creatures look like ... I think the Galapagos islands and their underwater environment are the pure definition of an ALIEN WORLD. Mark and his crew are one hell of underwater astronauts, risking their lives there for us!!! IN-SANE to see it on a video ... imagine to see it in person .................. hope some day they can shoot a VR experience for it. But I hope more one day to experience the Galapagos in real life.
The godzilla theme would go perfect in this
This video was amazing. And the wildlife is crazy. These are one of the best creatures I have seen on earth the editing was amazing.
Epic video, I can't wait for the movie!
Easily the most entertaining and learning channel on KZhead! Thank you guys so much!
I did the exact same thing at Fernandina. Snorkeling, not scuba, but it was an amazing experience. Marine iguanas, sea lions, even galapagos penguins. It's not this dramatically dangerous experience like that make it out to be but the current is quite strong. Galapagos is one of the most amazing underwater experiences on the planet.
Amazing video!! When will the movie come out and where could we watch it?
This was REALLY cool...
Great video! I have an idea for another video, It'll be cool to see you, coyote, and family go on a trip together, like a waterpark or something. ❤ That'll be fun to watch, or a zoo? Anyway love ya guys!!
wow man you are definitely a brave man, keep it up!
Brave Wilderness is the best! I can't wait to see the movie!
You had the perfect chance to use the Godzilla theme. Also just remember, there are more than just the new American Godzilla who does look almost identical to this iguana, like, weirdly identical, even their colors look a lot like Godzilla's there are a few more that look like older Godzillas, like the Komodo Dragon, which to me looks like the Godzilla from 1989-1995 during the heisei series.
Just speechless. Amazing work!
"Marine Iguanas are the only reptile who navigate the oceans" Salties (Saltwater Crocs): What about me?
Lizards
its been a while, specifically like 5 years since ive watched them lol, started 8 years ago, stopped after 3 years, now im back
Great footage. Insane commentary.

I have been watching your videos for 4 years! Keep up the amazing videos!😁
thank you!!
That lizard was absolutely immaculate
Am still checking this channel to see if they are alive dude.
A MOVIE!!! Oh my god
Awesome and intense!
*Godzilla has been spotted* !!! Amazing and one beautifull iguana
Awesome video!
I remember learning about these iguanas on Octonauts, which I thought was a cute cartoon. This video was so cool because you feel like you are right there, minus fighting the current. I had forgotten how they get rid of the salt lol. A movie sounds so cool and I am anxious to see it when it comes out. Thank you for all you do for wildlife. 🫶🏼 You guys are awesome and I just love this channel. 😄💙🐬🐊🐍
I’m surprised this guy has survived billions of dangerous scenarios and is still kicking after YEARS.
Nothing can match the euphoria of seeing a marine iguana swim.
What a great video 🎉
That thing is huge and I have been a fan of you for like 2 years now I love you videos keep them up and this was the best Brave Wilderness videos ever @Brave Wilderness ❤❤
I have nine watching your videos every since I was 8 and love of far you have came and now that you are making your first film well CONGRATULATIONS 🎊
GOJIIRRRRAA 🔥🔥
I went to Galapagos a few years ago it was the best 8 days of my life
Just don't subject it to any radiation in case you were carrying some such equipment around, we know what happens then if you watched the Godzilla movie from 1998! Awesome episode though!
I don’t know, did you see his heroic surviving son?
Godzilla the series is SO much better than godzilla 1998
I had an iguana for 16 years and I can’t count the number of times I had to clean dried, snorted salt debris from my walls.
Will the full movie be on KZhead?
As a long time Godzilla addict, I can confirm this is Godzilla’s son.
No 1998 godzilla
literally my dream. thanks for featuring the galapagos island and its resident animals.
Great vid thanks for y’all’s efforts!!!
Thank you!!
They look cool
I wish I can be a lizard. Most chilling live no stress, no school, no work etc... rly cool i like it
So glad Mark is getting more spotlight 💙
Those shark shots are insane! 😱

I love this video. I'm a Godzilla fan
Oh My Gosh!!!! he is one true Godzilla!!!!!!
Well now, this is a first.. that's rare lol... Great job! ...Thanks 👍🏾
Dam Imagine a super sized version of the iguana
Easily the video I’m most jealous of over the last few years. Absolute bucket list.
Omg those seals are so cute.
good episode
I love how they get pulled past the iguana dramatically trying to grab anything to secure themselves, but the iguana doesn’t react and just keeps eating! 😂
These Iguanas are so chill seeming, even with you guys getting whipped around by the currents, they just do their thing and don't even care lol
Mark videos are my favorite Brave Wilderness videos
this looks so unreal, really nice videos!
Love From Kerala ❤
With how strong the waves are, these lizards get dinner and a workout XD
So many Godzilla babies,nice work
7:17 The head bop from the iguanas gave me vibes of those crabs from finding Nemo. You know, HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY HEYHEYHEY!!!!!!!!!
The movie will be an epic judging from these shots. Good job guys.
This video is just a small part of the film - it’s going to be a mega adventure film
Actually, Tristar used the Marine Iguana as a big chunk of inspiration for the 1998 Godzilla, which Tohoscope would later rename to Zilla to differentiate it from the one true Godzilla.
So cool this my favorite animal
