    • My Father rebuilt a castle house in Hollywood. Many of the ceilings were vaulted curved and ornate. He ended up hiring a dear old carpenter friend to help him as he had extensive knowledge in how to construct those ceilings. They were beautiful but probably one of the most complicated and difficult tasks. Along with a stone spiral staircase those were a master builders’ projects. They used rare and precious woods so waste was not an option. I felt privileged to observe and see the finished castle.❤

    • If you own the home and plan to be there for a while, add the barrel ceiling and library ruins if it's more than a notion and something that you want to invest the time and effort in for the end result. There is nothing like curling up under a throw with a good book and a cup of tea or hot chocolate in a room that's cozy and you can just "be". Yes, it will be a lot of work and only you know if it's worth it. If you decide to go for it, LET US SEE 🙂!

You are a kindred spirit in so many ways. Have spent time looking at your channel. Really liked your 9 GARDENING HACKS That Actually Work. In winter here in the California SIerra we cover all our fall/winter vegetables (rutabaga, turnip, parsnips, carrots, leeks, kale, spinach, cabbages) with three feet of straw, which acts to insulate and keep them from freezing, while allowing us to harvest. In fall when our heirloom tomatoes die back, we gently lay the plants over onto the soil and cover with straw and compost. Come spring they send up new growth, stronger plants. This saves us money and produces more heirloom tomato plants which we share with family, friends.

Two: I think that the curtains to the closet are fabulous because they create an air of mystery as to what they might be hiding. Your bookshelves are a masterpiece of elegance and thrift. • Amazing. Love it! I remodeled an old house in Portland Oregon and had to strip it to the bones. All original character had been stripped away over the years which I returned after a lot of historical architectural research. I did this in the early 2000s when no one was. It took 6 years and I did it all myself. It was a true labor of love that inspired my neighbors to do the same. It was a very rewarding journey.

  • Love what you did with the light finish on the wood and the dictionary papered background, I think anything else added would be overkill. The shelf running all around the top really ties everything together and the chair and lamp make the room. Would really enjoy seeing more of your home projects - they are inspiring and well explained. Thanks!

  • I would LOVE for you to be able to finish out your ceiling like you designed! I have always, since childhood, hated to see the old beautifully designed homes sit and rot along the roads where I live. It had ALWAYS bother me that no one wants to/can afford to fix them up for a current generation to enjoy. And it STILL bothers me that there are NO modern designers that want to go back to making homes, or even business fronts, ornate and beautiful again. There are older buildings a town away that we will sometime go to that have the older ornate tile ceilings with ornate trim work. I think you should TOTALLY do it when you can manage to. I believe you'll love and appreciate it so much more. Especially since you have such an artistic flare and eye for the beauty of by-gone eras.

  • Love the barrel ceiling idea! My mind went there immediately when I asked myself, "What would make that the coolest room ever?" And you made my jaw drop with the freeze design! I was in residential renovations/ remodels for 13 years specializing in projects like this and historic homes; in that time, I did 1 large-scale 4, barrel intersecting (cross-shaped) ceiling, which was one of my absolute favorite jobs. Challenging, yes, but there are many tricks that can simplify the build big time! Look at how skateboarders build a "mini ramp" and do the same thing but upside down. Plywood arches with 2x2 ribs and thin, flexible sheet material built in sections for manageable assembly. I do not recommend 1/4" drywall (which we used). It works, but it was a nightmare! Love the video and your design!

  • Siloé, what a stunning video! Another subscriber recently mentioned a great idea of concentrating the interior design videos during the wintertime and then going back to the garden in the spring, summer, and fall! You can always give us sneak peeks of your home when you craft your gardening presentations. Watching your videos gives me the feeling of going over to a friend’s house for a visit, exploring their home and garden, and sampling a delicious meal with you.

  • An excellent use of a space that could so easily have become a dumping place for odd furniture. I've converted my dining room into one of my libraries, and I use the dining table as my desk. The dining chairs are used elsewhere, and brought in if I want to use it as a dining room. One addition that I would make to this room would be to have shutters at the window. I only have shutters at all my windows because of asthma. Rather than replace the door to the bathroom, I would use acrylic mirror tiles (lighter than mirror glass) and create an ornate frame. Over the mirror I'd hang a piece of art. The door would be a type of jib door.

  • I've never come across your channel before, but this was recommended to me and I'm so glad it was! I absolutely adored this video and the vibes of your library. It really reminds me of my favourite spaces in Oxford - not just the libraries, which were obviously gorgeous, but especially all the different studies of my history professors. They were always bursting with books and fascinating antiques and curiosities they'd collected over decades. The furniture was always slightly dilapidated but gorgeous, the colour palettes were usually warm and autumnal, and they were always like beautiful little jewel boxes, just intoxicatingly lovely. It was sometimes hard to focus on my tutorials because I'd get so distracted looking at the pretty things! Anyway, your library hits all the sweet spots and I love it. I think the barrel ceiling would be very cool. And you have a new subscriber:)

  • Your library reminds me of the cabinet of wonders in the novel “Wonderstruck”. Quirky and so fascinating! I think it will change organically over time with new treasures and books. What keeps me coming back to your channel is your ability to create and elevate using many found and repurposed pieces. In my home I take pride in using things that have been handed down to me because I love the sense of history and the stories each piece tells over time. Other pieces I have are from thrift shops, flea markets, and estate sales. These are my favorites!

As well the design placement of each item has made the room classy. The DIY wallpaper done in a light watered down blue is not only so intelligent, but not seen anyone do before. I'll end by saying you're well read and you're careful and thoughtful writing in this video is calm, clear yet sounds of a man of of scholar education. Well done Watson!!

  • I am in agreement that cozy, separate spaces are much preferable to open floor plans and having this smaller dedicated space for reading and enjoying antiques is perfect! You did a beautifully stunning job with it, and the small room with that purpose and aesthetic all make for a very peaceful looking environment. Thanks for the explanations for how to balance redoing a space, especially with the intention of fitting it with lots of stuff. This is great :)

  • Genius! Love it. If I built this in my home I would stain the wood shelves dark. I would also paint the ceiling a gradient color that gets lighter at the top. Love your hard work that definitely paid off. But Bro! Those rugs!

  • I enjoy the color accents and blue undertone. I like the light, aged shelves a lot more than I thought I would with this particular aesthetic. If you don’t have a reading room, and you need to have a library area, you can keep it all lighter. I actually painted the inside of my book shelf bright white, to contrast the outside, where I added some orders and decorative, wooden appliqués. This is more of a transitional mode and rather than moody, it keeps the room multifunctional and bright. (Plus, the books in this shelving unit are ones that I reach for and i like the cleaner, brighter aesthetic of the background of where they sit.)

The times you show the inside of your house have illustrated how purposeful and creative you are inside, just as you are outside.
