  • WoW! Slight shenanigans for the camera extension aside, this seems to be a very well designed integration. I am impressed with Prusa for making this possible. It is kind of a testament to how much value is added to the printer by OctoPrint. This is also an amazing demonstration of how the concept of Open-Source has allowed more than two companies to make money though the course of your build. The fact that you can succinctly present all of that in less than 15 minutes is no less amazing. Great Video.

  • great vid! thank you for sharing. Please note however that Octoprint seems to not recommend Raspberry Pi Zero W...and suggests Raspberry Pi 3B. "Recommended hardware: Raspberry Pi 3B. Please note that the Raspberry Pi Zero W is not recommended since severe performance issues were observed, caused by the WiFi interface when bandwidth is utilized (e.g. the webcam is streamed), negatively impacting printing results."

    @sennabullet@sennabullet4 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks! Yes, it is a bit slow.

      @ChrisRiley@ChrisRiley4 жыл бұрын
  • My experience is that the rpi zero W is at the edge of what you need in processing power. Adding a webcam definitely puts a high load on it so it's pushing the edge. The zero W can work well and reliable with Octoprint, but you might want to go easy on the setup (no webcam) and only install a few plugins. Note: For that reason the rpi zero is also not officially supported by Octoprint. My main prniter is running Octopring on a rpi zero 2 W, which is more than capable 👍 (also has 2 webcams connected)

    @PatJones82@PatJones823 жыл бұрын
    • Great Pat, glad it helped. I have never really found a webcam I liked. With the Pi zero you need to stay pretty low res as well. I use a C270 at 800x600, works ok.

      @ChrisRiley@ChrisRiley3 жыл бұрын
    • @@ChrisRiley Thank you so much Chris! After an hour of usage, I'm starting to realize that the Pi Zero is no powerhouse, that's for sure, so your resolution comment makes sense to me now. But I'll still give that webcam a look. Now, I'm using a cheap Eufy "Indoor Cam" to view my prints, which works great since I already have other Eufy Cams around my home, but I have to jump over to the Eufy app to see it print. I just wanted an integrated solution to view status and prints in a a single Octoprint app. I appreciate the response and the information. :) Thanks again! :)

  • Yep, old but gold video. Thanks Chris. I've watched your take on setting up WiFi on the Prusa as well as another. I don't see why I can't install Octoprint, configure the Pi and get everything set up without the use of Putty etc, as it sits connected right next to the PC . . . THEN install it into the Prusa. What am I missing here? I bought a Zero W on the strength of your video then I find it is NOT the recommended model, as winandd8649 below mentions. Same notion occurred to me . . . if I want to add a camera I would want the faster 4 core 2 W version so I've gone and bought it too. Now I have a Zero W with no project for it. Pays to do more research AND check video dates BEFORE reaching for the wallet.

    @jed2055@jed20559 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for watching! Yeah, this is a pretty old one. The issue with Putty is that GPIO connection. If you don't disable the blue tooth interface, it interferes with the pins. If you were using USB, no putty needed.

  • Using a dhcp assigned address for a static can cause a problem as the dhcp server may re-issue it to some other device. Generally it is better to assign fixed addresses either in the router or to use an address that is outside the dhcp pool.

  • Hi Chris, I just finished assembling my MK3s last night. I watch the video and read most of the comments, I would like to ask few questions if you don’t mind. If I decided to use Pi 3b to have more power and connecting it through USB port, will all the MK3s feature works? Cause I read somewhere that Octoprint takes over the OS then some of the sensors will not work. I don’t really need the wifi, but cool if I can have it. Need your opinion on that.

  • I HAVE the Pi Zero W but I have not used it yet as there have been discussions that it is not "powerful enough" to use for this situation. Even on the Octoprint page it tells you "Please note that the Raspberry Pi Zero W is not recommended since severe performance issues were observed, caused by the WiFi interface when bandwidth is utilized (e.g. the webcam is streamed), negatively impacting printing results." It has been said that IF you are going to also be using a cam with this setup to actually supply the Pi Zero W with its own power and to remove the power pins from the header as the Einsy board is not able to supply enough power. Care to give your input on this?

    • @@ChrisRiley Chris, what is slow? I mean for a noob that does not have one yet, what is it that is slow. Trying to understand if I want to add the external v 3B board but not understanding exactly *what* is "slow"? Can you elaborate, please?

    • @@mechsavvy9067 The web interface, you have to wait a minute or two for it to populate. The 3b is almost instantaneous.

    • Chris Riley thank you. Then that’s a no brainer for me. I can deal with another box and some cable management no problem. Cost difference is trivial.
