Trashed Fujitsu Siemens Amilo - Restoring and Upgrading
Hi everyone, thank you for 11:48 of your time. In this video is 17 Inch Fujitsu Siemens Amilo xa2528. the laptop was decelerated as obsolete and old, but with some work and few upgrades this machine is fully functional again. The laptop is good for very basic things, web browsing, making some documents and playing older games.

This must have been a very expensive machine when it was new! Always a pleasure to watch you restore these old laptops!
1000-1200 US$ back in the days
Your channel actually made me restart to repair old PCs and laptops as an unpaid volunteer for the broke people of the downtown where I live (south east France). I have spent my whole life in tinkering with PCs but I never decided to start to do this. But now I do. And you're part of the reasons I dived in this activity. Thx a lot mate =)
I simply adore your videos! Sometimes I catch myself saying 96% Isopropryl Alcohol randomly, with no reason whatsoever trhoughout the day :D Keep up the premium content!
It is always about reviving laptos and you always succeed bro. And your videos even allow me to remember my past, the machines I used to drive before and it's relaxing. A greeting bro from Bogota, Colombia and thanks for uploading videos.
¡Buena, parcero! Here doing the same.
The most precise thermal paste application I've ever seen.
Actually i wanted a secendory monitor because i need it for work then i found a fujitsu 1080p 21 inch monitor in the trash only needed a power cable and it works really does the job Also i love your videos ❤❤❤❤
I should have done what you do and put the screws in a container. I went to put new thermal paste on the CPU and graphics card, then lost one of the tiny screws for the GPU, looked everywhere and no sign of it. Luckily I save ols screws from past projects and broken PC's etc. I struggled to find one that fit but I managed it in the end, lesson leaned. By the way I bought a used laptop that works fine but the old paste was dry and hard so glad I re-did it. Love your videos too, I'm a fan.
As always, a top-notch finish. Keep up the good work and thanks for the video.
Hello my friend! Thank you for your video. I enjoyed it very much as always!
Thank you for the support bro :)
hi Andrew please keep uploading, stay good and healthy man! cheers 🎉
A nice satisfying video to watch as usual, thanks!! Fujitsu laptops were really well made with like no failures and good design, this is an older one obviously, I've had my hands on newer ones also and they were really nice designed and built. That nice speaker placement though! :D
Nice job! I always look forward to your videos!
Ur uploading regularly. aye bro could I send my grandma's broken hp laptop over. She doesn't want it no more but u can do anything with it.
Well done Andrew, very nice video
great work again, regard and gl
I had two Fujitsu Siemens with me as well !
i love your work!
Lovely restoration
You are an amazing person and your content is beautiful
Nice one Andrew
Bought this laptop in July of 2008 for around 1000 euros. My first ever laptop. I use it very rarely, for some reading or a watch movie, mostly out of fear of that 8600M GS toasting. Despite it's lackluster hardware (even for back then, that AMD Turion x2 and 8600M GS were very average) its design was awesome. And it has some of the most powerful bass/speakers I've ever heard on a laptop. Crazy to think now but I completed GTA IV on this laptop and played tons of hours of free roam on it. I even still remember the settings 800x600 and Medium all the rest : D... averaged 15-30 fps with all view distance tuned down : P
i love your videos my friend, make technologi great gain!
I believe that this restored laptops you have would run so much faster and smoother if you installed a linux distribution on them instead of windows. I have brought back to life many "old" laptops with linux for friends and family. It's worth a try.
respect I like the content you post very good quality I also learned something a lot thank you I appreciate you a lot ❤❤😊😊😮😮
these videos are awesome!!!!!!!, greetings from melbourne australia :)
Hi andrew! I hope in the next video you show how you spread the thermal paste that uniformly and thinly. My applications always end up smudging at the corners and don't look as clean as yours. Thanks and great video. Always nice to see a something that doesn't end up as ewaste.
He definitely should make a video about tips or something like that
Hello, Cat! Nice video.
good luck legend 😊
I congratulate you for your videos, they are very good and productive. I am not bored at all. Greetings from Argentine Patagonia!!!
Thank youu bro :)
Finally a new video!! ❤
Niceee restore
Personally I would be very careful of sticking screws on the top screw holes without the bezel and only put it in halfway. If you do this and tighten it on an Acer you will almost certainly put a dimple on the back of the lid! But yeah it's an half decent laptop to use today, TL-60 is right about the usability line of today's standards so its usable if GPU doesnt fail. Oh and fortunately you have the 65nm version as opposed to the 90nm version of tl60 which runs very hot
That is a nice laptop, still in great shape! Recently found a Samsung Notebook Spin 7 (AMD Ryzen 5 & Vega Graphics) not sure if it works!
Thanks for you amazing content! Would you mind telling us, what you do with all that refurbed computers?
I really like watching these thermal paste part was my frav
Yess!
I love your videos, it inspired me so much, hopefully you can get into more advanced repair someday
dual storage, damn cool
❤❤ Andrew
Great video as usual. How about installing some lite Linux distro? Best wishes from Panama 🇵🇦
Nice video. I miss the old music theme though.
nice laptop
That is actually a nice laptop! Its a great find! Looks like the CPU can be upgraded! Does it use a CCFL for the backlight? That is nice that there is a second bay for an HDD/ SSD!
Most laptops of that era have a CCFL backlight
Hello, friend, greetings from Qazaqstan
Нормальный ноут вообще. Еще послужит есть такой.
Hi, I am a big fan of yours. I have a question how i can fix my laptop that stopped working and I can’t find any way to fix it.
This was my first laptop I bought with my own money. I hated that thing. Had to send it in 3 times. The GPU broke, after they fixed it the DVD drive broke and later the headphone jack broke. Eventually the screen broke and I just gave up. Oh and back when it was new it came with Vista and it really didn't work good. I tried to install XP but the drivers were not compatible. Windows 7 made it somewhat useful.
Some of these models were very problematic, I agree with you. Especially the Windows Vista, it was pain to use it :D
Hey Andrew! what kind of thermal paste do you used for this computer? apparently few old laptops i got are all overheating, i am using Cooler MasterGel Pro V2, replacing this thermal paste still doesnt fix the problem i mean it does but still at critical temp(yes i did cleaning to everything including the heatsink and cooler fan), can i have any advice regarding this my issues😭😭 i had spent so much on thermal paste i tried artic mx4 before but still. :(
Where do you find these "thrashed" laptops ?! I wish to have this luck also 😀
Not bad if you ask me, it also looks like this machine was built well. Plus, being a 17 inch model it has 2x 2.5in disks possible as well as upgradable CPU, RAM and WLAN. I would have suggested 8GB RAM, but I realize it is DDR2 RAM that you are using, so 4GB would probably be the limit, and whilst Windows 7 is a much better OS for this hardware, already some software is no longer supporting Windows 7. I would also have used a separate 1TB HDD, for things like data, music and movies - after all, you have the second HDD slot!
The 32bit has the 4gb limit, not the type of ram
@@iplaydthis 4GB DDR2 SO-DIMMs are quite expensive and a lot of older chipsets don't support more than 4GB
@@Pasi123 yup, but that is because of the architecture itself.
@@Pasi123 Indeed. Some early C2D systems only support 2GB DDR2 maximum, and yes the last time I checked, even 2GB DDR2 sticks were quite high given that you're only going to have 4GB total, and 4GB sticks (for 8GB total) are off the charts expensive.
Some laptops with DDR2 can support 8gb. Ex. My Dell Latitude D630
It’s surprising to see sooooo much of this tech being trashed when it can be sent to countries with lower cost of living standards to help people get involved in learning etc and being sort of this technology world we are all a part of.
What thermopads did you use?
I assume you tested the LCD before mounting it in completely with the bezel reinstalled?
i was given an acer extensa 5420 with the amd turion 64 x2 cpu and the problem was it comes on with the lights below the screen, but no screen. then reboots and does the same......found an old thread and a guy said to replace the cmos battery as the old one was dead....i did that and re applied thermal paste as the machine much like this one was really clean. this one has radeon x1220 graphics in it. same with the windows 10 and went from 2gb to 4gb and it's like night and day......come to find out it had this issue early on and just sat around so the battery still hold about a 2 hour charge and the screen is amazing on this laptop. date code was on the motherboard as 071207 so i asked if he bought it new and he said yes.......so technically new old stock so to speak!
This machine could be better with Linux distros. I think that you could repair the LCD and upgrade the CPU. Thanks for your effort and this nice restoration video.
I rid myself of my Microsoft abuser when support for Windows 7 ended but it's not a good idea trying to run Windows 10 on only 4 GB RAM anyway, because it needs all of that memory to run all of the telemetry on the user and steal all of their personal information. Microsoft needs you to put 8 GB RAM into the PC you that you buy for them to take control of and to spy on you efficiently. This type of machine runs fine as a daily driver with Linux - I run Gentoo Linux on similar spec machines like the Thinkpad T61and it runs fine as a daily driver for general browsing, productivity and light gaming. Yes, 720p video playback is probably the limit but it's a laptop probably with a 1280x800 or 1366x768 screen, so HD is pointless without an external monitor attached anyway.
the cpu can be upgraded to the likes of TL64 66 68 but all of them are almost prohibitively expensive (TL66 TL68 costs over 100 dollars)...
@KZ Tech I see, this is a joke.
@@teomanc.9284 And well I think linux would work okay on this if you can get the 8600M GT drivers to work (which isnt impossible). IF you have the integrated graphics version like mine however, good luck getting geforce 6150 Go working in any modern linux distros without the chip burning down... And no nouveau doesnt work correctly.
@@teomanc.9284 No, he's correct if you look at eBay prices of those two CPUs - when I repair and upgrade old laptops, I normally keep to a "sweet spot" of $10-15 for a CPU upgrade because it's not worth spending much more than that on an old machine.
i hope, can fix my old laptop.
damn when openes it looks similar to a samsung np300e series laptop
I wonder, how many of the repairs make it to your channel? There must be some project that doesn't work out, what's the ratio?
Hi sir big fan
Which cpu has this laptop Andrew?
Does that laptop have a subwoofer? It looked like that's what I saw on the bottom.
Hola amigo, como estas? Te veo desde Argentina hace mucho tiempo, que usas para limpiar los displays o pantallas? Gracias!!!
Hi bro, I'm using 90+% isopropyl alcohol but mixed with glass cleaner or window cleaner
let's goooo
😊
hey man your lucky you can do this stuff i cant even play a roblox game on my laptop it keeps lagging lol
Andrew have you looked in to installing Windows Lite on any of your older PC's ans laptops, they may run a bit faster?
Install Linux and they will run faster still - why would anyone install some crappy and "lite" version of Windows that probably won't support the latest browser versions? Why are people so afraid of ridding themselves of their Microsoft abusers and just finding any excuse not to try Linux?
@@terrydaktyllus1320 Terry, I understand what you are saying, problem is with a lot of people they buy a PC/laptop and it most likely will have Windows installed on it, so they get used to it and anything different is then another learning curve. I'm 75 and always had various versions of Windows so it became the norm so to speak, but I have tried Chrome and I like it, also I have tried a few versions of Linux, I like those too but at my age it took a bit of getting used to, this may sound funny but I kept looking for 'How do you do this or that' so went back to what I was used to.
@@colinreece3452 A valid argument except for the fact that so many Windows users now seem to be "fighting" against it all of the time - whether it's because of downtime due to forced updates, having to constantly turn off telemetry features every time an update is applied or, as you mentioned, stripping Windows of some of its bloat to make it a "Lite" version - and that's something I used to do myself a lot with 98lite and XPlite back in the days when they were current Windows OSes (and, quite frankly, much better consumer-grade OSes than the Windows crap that exists now). My core point to all of the above is rather than spending time fighting against Windows, why not invest that time in learning Linux, an OS that you don't have to fight against? You just have to understand a bit about it.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 I agree Terry, like I said earlier Windows is on most PC's and laptops, but if for example it was the other way round and Linux distros were the norm, I very much doubt ppl would want Windows as an alternative. I can remember have a stripped out version of Windows XP, I used to like it, as Windows developed later versions I always thought it would be nice for a stripped out version. There is software out there that does this but one problem is, I for one don't know what to strip out, some things that run in the background have names you have no clue what they are and if you remove them Windows breaks down. I once gave a laptop to someone that I installed Linux on and they said, "Can't it have Windows on instead, I don't understand this other thing?" I explained it is something you need to learn but it is good, it is just another operating system but they had never heard of Linux and thought it was inferior. I'm surprised a lot of kids are not asking for Linux as they soon adapt to using cell phones and know how to use them, I'm sure they would soon adapt to Linux.
I have Dell Inspiron 3420 i5 3generation 4+4 I ran ePSA diagnostic I got the error code 2000-0122 with 8gb and when I removed 1ram laptop run with epsa diagnostic but working and not crash
the laptop screen is 1080p?
I have this exact laptop but sadly the GPU on mine is artifacting and the foam on the subwoofer (Yes this has 2.1 stereo and it sounds really good) unfortunately has deteriorated last year. It's sadly is for parts at it's current state.
hello Sir, I'm sohil from India I want to know my Hp 15s Ryzen5 5500U can I install GPU on it
what kind of Turion? the x2 Version is usefull today
That is a TL-60, dual core 2Ghz Socket S1G1. I'd say right on the boarder line of being usable today, but it does support up to 8gb of ram and 800mhz speed which is handy
@@kztech1319 nice
Actually you didn't need to replace the display. You can replace the cffl tube inside and this would solve the problem
Fujitsu-Siemens were Defuncted in 2009, Did you know Zyrex & Axioo?
Hi Andrew do you have a cat
From 9:00 minute you started a song can you tell the name of that song 🙏
Loving Caliber - So What
Can we put metal liquid on cpu laptop ?
Yes and no. Liquid metal thermal paste is more for desktops. Laptops are moving and this thermal paste is conductive, if some drop goes to the motherboard it may cause short circuit. Metal paste is okay for some very extreme OC configurations, but for normal use no point of metal paste. Personally I prefer just normal paste, just some better ones, like cooler master, arctic mx or thermal grizzly
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew thanks bro ❤️
Good to save a laptop from e waste
My Grandpa has this one exactly model. hell if i know how to fix better and upgrade because it makes his PC slower.
just replace HDD with an SSD, put windows 7 instead of 10 and instead of chrome use firefox.
Try upgrading to Windows 11
1st view mannnnnnnn❤
Et la pile cr 2032 ? Elle ne doit pas être facile à changer...
4gb of ram?
First comment ❤
you cannot upgrade the cpu?
Can
Any of the TL-6x series above the tl60 he already has are prohibitively expensive...
@@kztech1319 oh hey! its good to see you here! thank you for the answer!
If 4GB DDR2 sodimm weren't so expensive, you could put a total of 8GB of ram.
Yeah I can basically affirm 8gb will work on this. That's what I did on mine. However you will have minor trouble with 6gb as TL series chips dont support asymmetric dual channel...
WHY DID IT HAVE AN i3 sticker badge?!?!
I think most people throw away old devices and buy a new one (maybe).....?.
Not all bro, but 10 - 15%
Muzic lost rewiev way
Windows 10 likes to have bit more ram then 4 gig....at least 8 gig
put windows 11 on this laptop
It may slows down the performance. 4GB RAM, Maybe browser experience would be worst. I tried
Hey! I'm a fan of your videos! I wonder do you have Reddit or Discord where we can communicate with techies and probably you if you have time?
