i do the same thing with laptops and desktops, but in recent years my hands arent as steady as they once were and i get frustrated with it. i watch these videos and it gives me inspiration to continue to do what i love, and i can't thank you enough for your videos and hard work on this old tech.....I've been doing this for 25+ years now and in fact just did a maintenance and clean up just last night. New thermal paste, dusting out the fans and coolers, and doing some software work as well to speed up that old core2duo for windows 10. it was for a friend that was given the laptop....it's a passion i have and i'm glad to see you doing the same andrew! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I watch videos like these a lot... This is much more educational than arrogant tech enthusiasts like LTT who build insanely expensive pcs
@@mica7191 LTT runs a channel that is KZhead's equivalent of the QVC telesales channel on terrestrial/cable TV. Good luck to him if he makes money at what he does but all he does do is shill hardware to self-entitled gamers who think they've suddenly become computer experts overnight. I've been into building and programming computers for many years now and I remember the days of programming machine code on 1 MHz Z80 CPUs back in the early 1980's. I've been extremely lucky to have witness this "Golden Age of Computing" right from near its start and it gives me an appreciation of how quickly hardware has developed and become more and more powerful in a very short space of time. For me, I have more fun and learning opportunities take a "piece of cr*p" PC that someone else has thrown away, repairing it and rebuilding it to put it to some use, rather than just constantly "upgrading upgrading" because the latest cr*ppy AAA games demand it.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 over here... pcs are very expensive... especially gaming pcs... I got my first ever GPU in 2020... believe it or not... a 750 Ti
@@mica7191 I haven't bought a AAA game in 10 years now (apart from Fallout 4) so I have also stopped buying expensive graphics cards. I have a collection of older gaming PCs because friends come over a few times a year for beer, pizza and a LAN party - we only play Quake, (original) Doom, Red Alert and Unreal Tournament 2004 on them, so I don't need huge and powerful graphics cards. I think I have a GTX960 that a friend gave to me, and then next down from that are a couple of GTX750TI cards. I don't need any more power than that.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 I play PES 2013, GTA 5, ME:SoW... Today's games are a chunk of shit... you can't run almost any new RT rich game without an RTX 2000/3000 GPU
I like retro tech channels, and tech repair channels... this one is among my favourites... Today, when prices are so high, we can't just toss a broken device away... Even a 20 year old laptop with an out of date os can be refreshed with a flavor of Linux
Yep, I'm with you on that. I have a Thinkpad X30 next to me now from about 2003 with a Pentium III CPU and 1GB RAM in it. It has a great keyboard and I use it at least once a week to SSH into my server and writing shell scripts. It runs an i3 desktop and I can simultaneously check emails on it and play music in the background. One great thing that many younger people don't experience today is "quiet computing". When you have a lower-powered PC that can't run web browsers and have countless programs running in background, it doesn't disturb your concentration and you can just get on with doing some programming, or whatever you need to do. It's a great feeling.
I always enjoy your restorations.
Thank you bro :D
It was my first PC I ever had! So many memories... Good job! 👍
Great video as always, i was very surprised to see Stronghold being played at the end. One of my favourite childhood games
Your videos are therapeutic and help me relax. Thanks for the great work Andrew!
@Catandandrew Impressive as always, a team that takes us back in time with the evolution of equipment. Greetings from Bogota, Colombia and thank you very much for one more class on repair and restoration.
great restoration once again Andrew 🥰👍😇. Awesome job and looks brand new again 🤩🤯🥳. Love watching your content as always. Keep up the great work my friend and looking forward to your next episode as always. 😉👍
I bet it could play the Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy games, and that alone makes it worth saving this laptop. Great job.

It's a good day, new video upload from Andrew !!!
I came across your Lenovo T420 vid. I had one of those as company issue for a while, and it had the BEST fingerprint reader I've ever seen. Arrive at work, open laptop and swipe finger. Machine powers up and boots (Win7 in those days). Having booted, machine logs on to domain using credentials associated with fingerprint! Luxury when you have enforced 20 char plus passwords!
My first laptop, i still have this model in my collection. Awesome computer for it's age
Great restoration ! Love your content
Thank you bro :D
Welcome back master!!!
dude. THANK YOU! for UPLOADING early!! 😁😍❤️👍

Even if the laptops are very old, the restorations never gets old.
Great restoration!!
I enjoy channel and the community 😀
amazing video , i 'm big fan from italy
i always wait for your content,, i love it.. 👍
*Andrew* : perfect work. Everything looks like it's easy for anyone *Me* : loses half of the screws, can't remember what is what and where it goes, ends up realizing I still have some "spare" parts when I finally "manage" to reassemble the thing. Finally throws what remains of the fucking computer through the window and ragequits my own life...
love your content man keep up the great work❤
Thank youu bro :D

Hi, great restoration! Just today I opened mine to change the CMOS battery and fix the trackpad buttons. By the way a stripped down version of Windows 10 (called tiny10, developed by NTDEV) works really well with this Laptop. I got all the required drivers too by using the Smart Driver Manager. It gave a new life to this old laptop. 🍁
Great work
Nice restoration from Senegal 🇸🇳
Thanks for the inspiration, mate. I am currently putting a dual core pentium 775 rig into working order again...with an IDE HDD ( I build computers with what I have around, and sell them at a reasonable price to people who can't afford to get anything more modern) By the way, that laptop could be well served by running Windows 8. I know it's not popular at all, but it's not much resource-intensive than Windows 7, and is still supported, at least until January 2023...
Love your videos plz post video fast ,love from Nepal ❤️
HELL YEAH NEW VIDEO
I've just bought this laptop paied like 4,90€... You are a source of inspiration... my tip is to update the bios to let it read the 8GB of RAM.
I can be wrong, but if I remember it correctly, only few AMD CPUs worked fine with a 4Gb DDR-2 high-density modules. Intel's C2Duos supported 2Gb modules at max. So, it's not this particular laptop's problem.
You are partly correct - there are some DDR2 4GB RAM modules that will only work with AMD CPUs but you can get DDR2 modules with 4GB RAM - I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with a Intel T7700 dual core CPU in it that has 2 x DDR2 4GB RAM modules in it. But I remember them being quite expensive to buy (about $40 each) and I don't want to spend that much money on restoring such an old laptop. Also, sometimes you have to make sure that the BIOS is the latest version before you try 4GB modules.
Not wrong bro, but there are some core 2 duo and core 2 quads that are supporting 8GB ram, this one is listed that is supporting 8GB
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew it can be motherboard limitations
Espectacular cada día mejor. Felicitaciones.
fantástico bro tu siempre haces videos muy interesantes y donde uno puede aprender mucho felicitaciones
Love these videos, very helpful. Remember to tell viewers that an old laptop can be improved upon BUT will not replace the newer versions. Have 3 old/refurbished laptops spec wise says better than my newer laptop. The newer laptop is just faster, better graphics, better processor.
Nice Restoration! Your should install an optimised OS such as AtlasOS for better performance
I have the same laptop in my collection. I made an upgrade from [Pentium Dual Core T2370, 2GB of RAM and 250GB HDD] to [Core 2 Duo T8100, 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD]. For a 14 years old machine it still works quite decently. I tried Windows 10 and had same feeling that it was slow. Linux distros were also sluggish or not working properly (probably due to integrated Intel X3100 gpu). But instead of returning to Windows 7 i gave a chance to Windows 8.1 ... and it was a success. It's faster than W7 on this machine and still gets updates. Regards!
I would have personally stuck with Windows 7; Windows 8.1 is just awful to use in terms of its user interface. I would rather have a slower W10 or a less secure, but faster, W7, or even a Linux version, compared to 8.1. That reminds me, I have a 6820s that I recently bought/refurbished, I used Windows 7 because the graphic card has no Windows 10 drivers at all.
Thanks, I'll give Win 8.1 a shot.
@@TheSpotify95 I agree that win 8.1 interface is awful, that's why I use "Open Shell" program which restores Start menu :)
sorry Mr. Adam may i asking you abt your Dual Core T230 which upgraded to Core 2 Duo T8100, does it work ? my old Laptop is Toshiba Satellite L310, different FSB (533 to 800) so cant figure how to upgrade the Processors. im sorry for asking here and thanks in advance
@@dhanyrama Before upgrading the cpu I have checked that HP 6720s with Intel GM965 chipset supports Core 2 Duo processors with FSB 800, up to T9300. T8100 works fine, but I had to update the BIOS, because T8100 is a newer, 45nm Penryn cpu from 2008 (my BIOS was from 2007). About your Toshiba Satellite L310: There are few versions of this laptop with different chipsets (PM965/GM965/GL960 Express, according to manual). Probably some of them should handle T8100. 1. Install "CPU-Z" program. 2. In "Mainboard" tab check the chipset version and BIOS date. - If it's for example "GM965" and "2008", then the T8100 (or other with FSB 800) should work. - If the BIOS is older it may be necessary to update it. - If the chipset is "GL960" then sorry, T8100 (or other Penryn) won't work at all. You're limited to older (65nm) FSB 533 processors. Regards!
What tools those need to disasembly the laptop? where do you buy that? That screws driver and the compartement storage looks great. Anyway i like this video. I give like and share too. I have subscribed it. Great job bro. Nice.
The hinges are okK 👍 - (Andrew approved)
Great video!
great restoration! greetings from the philippines 🇵🇭

Sampung Libo.......
Nice restoration. I hoped for a cleaner fix for cracked screen bezel though.
Nice restoration - this is very similar to my HP 6820s laptop that I bought, refurbished, and is now for sale. I'm also glad you went for Windows 7, that is the right OS to choose for those older machines. Older Core 2 Duo era machines tend to struggle with Windows 10, plus you might not find Windows 10 drivers (my 6820s has no graphics drivers for Windows 10, but is OK for Windows 7). Also, Windows 10 doesn't like 4GB RAM anymore, nor does it like DDR2 RAM.
8 or 16gb is sweet spot for 10
Once again, nice restauration many thanks. Yep Core 2 duo is not efficient for W 10...7 is the best choice.
Wow man you open my eyes to renew & update mine. I got an centrino Intel Pentium M processor 735A 1.7Ghz 2caches Would you recommend for me any advice?
Good Job buddy
Nice wallpaper 😄
i have this laptop at home, it was my dad's old work laptop, you brought me so many memories, sadly the power plug of it has stopped working it only work at an angle

Great work! Question though. How did u almost install windows 10 on such old hp laptop? I have a i3 2nd gen hp laptop but cant install windows 10, the bios doesnt have legacy boot. And also doesnt read the new cloned ssd. Only the old hard drive.
Hi Andrew, love your videos, one suggestion - why don't you use chrome os flex for the older laptops.

Hi Cat and Andrew, Where you find the Windows 7 image? I need one to restore mi Dell Inspiron 10 Mini.
I’m a huge fan of you
You can install a better wifi card to get a better wifi connection, I recommend that upgrade
On a laptop older than 2010, its not worth it since the cpu's of very old laptops cannot take advantage of a better wifi card than wireless n, let alone wifi 6 .if you want wifi 6 on your old laptop (older than 7 years) please think twice and buy a new laptop because even the cheapest laptop will have much better peeformance than a very old laptop
I'm fan of your content
Thank youu bro :D
Great job fixing that HP laptop, what was the 2 songs you used for this video I know the artist is epidemic sounds but I can't find those 3 songs.

Hi Andrew. Excellent video, although the laptop is old, but it works The basic, but that's enough. One question for you? Since the operating system is Windows 7 Which browser did you use for the Internet? Because with win 7, it's a little more difficult without a suitable browser Please comment. All the best in your work. Bojan

i like your custom computers, i hope you'll do it next 🙂
I'm collecting some parts now for that, actually for 2 computers

As Win7 has no support anymore, I would recomend installing a Linux Distribution
I watch all your videos!

i see torix screws as a cut thing so you can unscrew them with flat head screwdriver
Hello Andrew, I love your videos they are very addictive in fact and above all you have a great passion for your work I admire everything you do because you have a lot of patience in fixing these devices. I have a problem with my laptop which when I open a game or do something that requires power in the part where the processor or the graphics are, it sounds very strange, I don't know how to explain it, but it sounds like electricity or electric flow... well I don't know if you understand me but I don't know what happens with the laptop it even gets very hot and when I play something demanding the dedicated graphics is deactivated I don't know why, I'm from Peru greetings! I wish you could come visit this country hahaha 😅😅

Hey I have an Dell INSPIRON 3000 AMD version with AMD E1 processor and it performs very slow and for some reason it is not working so I took it to repair shop they said that they can swap the motherboard with Intel version of same laptop model... So my question is ..is that possible will there be any mod, compromise I have to do and do u have have anything similar laptop of which u can change whole motherboard from one brand to another?? Will be waiting for ur reply.
Hi,i need help could you tell if my laptop's motherboard - HP 832A can support m.2 card or just m.2 sata??

Very nice video have one question Wasn't better to install windows 8.1?
i think so
Can you tell me what is your preferred termal paste
Hi Andrew, nice to see you when you restore an old PC laptop. But what can we do with all these restored machines? I have 7 old laptops which works fine but I have only 2 hands and one brain to use them. And who would want to buy or to be offered these oldies today? I ask me if recycling process would be better thing? Sorry for my poor english, I leave in France. 😉
Hi bro, mostly the tech that I restore isn't mine, i just take, repair, restore and return. This one is going to be in my friends workshop/garage for basic things, better than to put a new there. But many others we recycle, we take apart first, separate plastics from electronics, metal...and then I know some guys that are working with recycling, they pickup everything
You are my guy
What about installing ubuntu on low end laptops like this, it's light, fast and very good for basic tasks
Can you do HP Compaq 620
A machine like this is also sufficient for learning programming.
