Didn't the British Empire own the U.S. too, I mean that's how they got their independence.
Brooks Ikeh that was the 1700's, which was long ago... also this video is about the largest amount of land they controlled at one time
US was created under the early english empire, the purchase of the west by the us was a usa made, not a british thing
Cheeze Friez and they only owned a couple of states in the east
he's comparing with the Empire at it's 1921 size. US was not part of it anymore.
Brooks Ikeh only the 13 colonies
"Would the US allow this to happen?" If you managed to reunite India and Pakistan then anything is possible...
I wish if there was a open border instead of a heavy militarized zone between our countries like they have in the European Union. Things would be much better then.

@Bilal Ahmed those so called nationalist always want something to play politics with. Else, how would they survive right? Honestly speaking, common people here are more interested in their daily lives rather than fighting over some land they might never step on to in the course of their whole lives.
Technically, the sun has still never set on the Empire. For one hour (12:00-1:00 UTC I believe), the Pitcairn Islands are the only Crown colony which sees sunlight, but with them, the sun is over the Empire at all times.
Yes, I’ve seen a website with an Empire clock too! Just need to find it now. It’s interesting!

What's interesting is that (unlike the Romans and Mongols) the British didn't conquer any other countries on their own continent. This map of their widespread global territories is largely a testament to the superiority of the Royal Navy.
What’s mad about the British empire is that the British empire was literally just created for trade not global conquest. Imagine if the brits just wanted sheer land mass! 😮

I myself am working on a novel premised on the survival of the empire and its evolution into a federal super state, so I find these videos interesting and good for research. Under such a scenario (of survival not reunification), in calculating total and average imperial GDF, the difficulty is taking into account the cumulative multiplier of political unification. By that I mean the free flow of goods and people across imperial borders, as well as skills and expertise, over a period of decades, in a context of political stability. I assume this would have led to a much higher total and average GDP for the empire than that given here by (presumably) adding together the current GDPs of all 64 countries that would be reunited. The question would be postulating a magnitude for the multiplier.

I think assuming the nations comprising the empire would continue with third world bad government (and thus economies) is probably incorrect. Also trade within the Empire would increase. Also the military might of the empire would probably reduce defense needs for different third world bits that can't really afford it. These factors suggest that the poor economics of the bits and pieces of the Empire are probably overstated somewhat.

can you do an updated version of this video? im sure alot have changed since 2016
I was going to say: you have to include the American colonies, too. It doesn't matter if the rest of the States would resist or not. This is a hypothetical scenario about the Empire being at its most powerful, and that would include the American colonies, making it the undisputed global superpower. (P.S. Cool video. Thanks.)
The reason the 13 colonies weren’t included is because this is showcasing the British Empire at the height of its power (around 1922), which was centuries after the 13 colonies had declared independence. In other words when the British Empire had control over the 13 colonies they did not have the majority of the land they owned in Africa and Southeast Asia.
"Would United States allowed this to happen??" LOL... Do you think India, Pakistan, Malaysia, etc would just merrily let themselves be re-annexed??
Well I think the distinction is that those are entire countries, whereas the colonies are just a small subset of the U.S. so only a part of it would have to be annexed and taken away from the rest of the country.
Everything is very well say and intelligent... But he destroys all with this last stupid question. haha
my point exactly. considering that India has a bigger army than the UK, it doesn't seem possible
kartik adhia not about the size but how strong they are but there are plenty of alliances. This is all a big what if.
darkwoodmovies Colonies are there to possess region by immigrants (Foreigns). After centuries there are mixing of races. But Colonies have mission to possess the region wealthy ressource and makes men power... and sending back all this ressources by low price back to the main land and then used for continuum of the empirer's power. The term colonie is the reason why American fight Brits... Because Americans were tired to work for Brits power and following Brits regulations. Vietnam war is also a fight against french colonialists and american empire. Spanish had done the same in south American and the Africa is a mess because the colonies mindset (one of many reasons). And todays the world goes more on stable table(less competitive at large civilisation scale)... Even if you hear politicians Trump, XI, Poutine speak about wars... They are not willing to go aggressively. There is too much side consequences they know about might been unseen now.
You forget that the US was part of the British Empire, until we decided to give you your freedom
ii Prosperous so the entire mainland United States was part of the British Empire?
Only the thing east coast was ruled by England :)
Actually you were forced to accept a declaration of independence because you invaded and were defeated in 2 battles, the battle of Lexington and another one, plus the french were supporting the US.
MLG anime tits the british took that massive L
Funny thing is that the 13 colonies never actually faced the full force of the Empire. In '82 Britain sent an armada across the Atlantic containing the bulk of British military forces with the sole aim or retaking the colonies. However during the journey and Election was held in Britain and the balance of power shifted, the new government favoured peace over more bloodshed and thus recalled the Armada. In short, one election changed History.

The United States STILL surpasses a theoretical modern day British Empire?! Good lord...
doesnt even surprise me
The united states is a well oiled machine on the other hand the empire is a bunch of small machines if they had time to make it a well oiled machine it would be a beast :p
Pretty much what Sordxyx said. The scenario states the Empire basically just magically gains all its old territory and the resources/population/military owned by whatever exists there currently. In reality this sort of thing would take decades to even begin, the Empire wouldn't just slap on the annexed nations pre-existing militaries/government structures/etc (way too expensive and inefficient) and nations would be more gradually integrated rather than all at once haphazardly. It certainly wouldn't want to just take on the money sink that is developing half the third world all at once. Once it was set up it could easily be the most powerful state on the planet, but it would take a while and lots of things could easily go wrong, not least the fact that even poor nations these days can effectively wound advanced ones with guerilla warfare thanks to modern warfare.
Sordxyx no it fucking isn't. The United States wastes money hand over fast.
Ry well from the second it changes yes, don't forget that most of the countries that were in the Empire went down hill very quickly afterwards as they replaced those in positions with experience with those who had no experience but were native to the respective lands. Over time with structure imposed and a western level of efficiency gained, the figures would begin to shift in favour of the Empire. With that comes changes to the defence budget as, provided it stayed at the same percentage of GDP rate, it too would rise. The British would be able to take control of issues inside the borders which would lighten the load for the US military and as a pair we'd essentially have the world on absolute lockdown

Exactly! xD
Owais Shaikh just because the USA has a large economy doesn't mean it's rich. Keep in mind that the u.s is still nearly 20 trillion dollars in debt and has only been out of debt once in its history. A high GDP is just a measure of the total value of the goods and services produced in that country, not how wealthy the country actually is.
Once I see someone mention the 20 trillion dollar debt without its specifications, it's a tell-tale sign that this person has no idea what he's talking about.
IaughandpeeaIittle in this situation, the amount of debt that the us has is relevant. So even if I didn't know what I was talking about, the facts are still there and they say that the United States isn't simply rich.

I wonder why they do not include the United States as part of the British Empire as since we were once a Colony of the British Empire. Not just the Colonies.
As mentioned in the video, the majority of the United States was not even a colony of British Empire. Spanish Empire would be the biggest, followed by French as the second. Also, there are other countries too that has stepped their feet on the US such as the Netherlands. British people is not even the biggest ethnicity in the US. It comes third after German and Irish.
***** I don't think most Americans would agree with that. The US is just so ethnically diverse to even agree to be considered one of the British Empire colony. Only about 10% of them has British ancestors and the country is built by immigrants from all over the world. Unlike other British colonies, American independence is not given to them. They fought against the UK because their policies are just stupid and they won eventually with the help of French people. Why the fuck would you ever consider to be a part of their empire ever again? They can be allies, but "reunited"? That's just ridiculous and against what all of their founding fathers fight for.
***** Are you stupid or something? You explicitly said your agreement with the guy in the main comment, "I wonder why they do not include the United States as part of the British Empire as since we were once a Colony of the British Empire." by saying "True". Yeah, American share many common cultures with British people, just as they share common cultures with French, German, Irish, Dutch, and other people from other European countries. Also, what is your point exactly if you don't say that the US should be a part of British Empire? Like, what the fuck do you want to point out? Even if the US will be one of the British Empire, American's massive ego and narcissism won't let them to be under the rule of the British Empire. If anything, the US would be the one who rule and control everyone else in the empire, since the US whole GDP is bigger than the entire British Empire's GDP. Furthermore, why would the US want to invade the British Empire in the first place? It's not like they have much oil that they need to be invaded with all of the mighty freedom and democracy.
Taking a hypothetical discussion a bit to serious and personal. Our Nation Originated from the Original 13. So I figure we hold the same connections as the 13. Not who came here after the fact. People give our so called founding father way to much credit like they were flawless saints or something.
Christopher Knox Just replying to the original comment, it would not be logical to include the entire US because the original 13 where the only colonies Britain ever controlled, after the revolutionary war Britain never controlled The US again, so it wouldn't make sense to say that any part of the US besides the 13 states that where the original 13 colonies should be included in the British empire
I’d live there cuz I was in the last british colony, 1997 hk
I think the Queen would fix the poverty by giving aid to the poor and making homeless shelters and houses and etc. Considering how much the British Empire produces pollution, they would probably use solar pannels and the army would be useful for taking care of insurgency or drug dealers.
Dude, just cuz you're from 'Murica doesn't mean you show bias to them. I mean WTH? The US was a part of the british empire, you can't be like, "Will America Allow them?"Did anyone allow UK to take over Africa? It's a hypothetical eg, you have to get the facts right. BTW I'm not British, I'm actually Indian
the US was in the first British Empire.. it was independent before most of the second British Empire was conquered
Because America was declaring independence from the British empire before it was cool. We deserve props.
I agree that you get a shout out, but shouldn't the facts include the US as a part of the British Empire? Also by the logic that it was a part of the "second "british empire then Canada, SA Aus should also be not included
how so? Canada, SA, and Aus were still under full or partial British control until well into the 20th century. Canada only got full control of it's self in 1982 Australia wasn't fully independent until 1986 South Africa became independent of Britain in 1931 (you're probably thinking of the formation of the local governments in these countries.. for instance Canada got home rule in 1867.. but Britain still had to approve all their laws, could call upon them at any time, and could pass laws for them. IE they were still within the British Empire)
Sidhant Sinha they ask that question cause the US is a country that could fight them for that territory and probably win. And of course the US would say no not only cause of the economic strategy, but also cause of the Constitution that legally binds all the states together. If the states that made up the 13 colonies left the US, they would essentially be calling treason.
The British Empire couldn’t have gotten any bigger without starting another empire as you can only stack up to 64 colonies.
underrated
Is this some game reference?
@@jannethart in minecraft blocks only stack to 64.
put them into shulker boxes and carry them around in your ender chest. Us brits would have all the countries and plently more space for our tea
Haha funny
Can you do one on Scandinavia?
As an Austrian it’s weird to think some of China used to be part of the British empire
“The sun never set on the British because not even god could trust the British in the dark”
U guys arent bad, just the ancestors maybe did i bit bad. take this comment as a joke
@Olivia Addison so how indian subcontinent's countries became more poor that many of the african countries after independence and also african countries who possess more than 30% of the entire world's economy became one of the most poor region in the world. You would probably say that thay hadn't industrialized their nation during the period of industrialization but thay were ruled by British during that period. So it was the duty of british that they think about the indian and african nation asuch as they think of their own nation . They just thrieve resources and wealth of indian and african nations and used it to industrialize their own country. I don't know enough about the how british rule the other countries but yes i know enough about the rule of british in india. Some major famines like 'Great Bengal Famine', 'Chalisa famine', 'Doji bara famine','Upper Doab famine of 1860-61','Orissa famine of 1866','Rajputana famine of 1869','Bihar famine of 1873-74','Indian famine of 1896-97','Bengal famine of 1943', all cause during british period. Can you think about famine in the world's most fertile region i.e. plains of indus and ganga? The cause of these famines are taking around 125% tax on crops. The farmers are forced to pay this tax. When they were unable to pay this then the british seize their house ,property, and crops leaving the farmers and their families to die. Also they massacred many people who were unviolently protesting against the british rule . Example of some massacre are jalianwalah bagh massacre ,amritsar massacre etc. And now England's government claim that british raj was the golden era for technology. You claim this because you have given railways tp us. But we don't need this railway if it costs 45 trillion $. Yes $45 trillion , this is the amount british thrieve from india. I'm not saying that you are bad but yea your ancestors were like a devil for us. Even till date they haven't even said sorry for these all. Now, you decide everything.
@@uniqueagent284 well done you are telling some one off for there ancestors, something which they have no hand in, well done
@Olivia Addison well that's enough for me You are right we can do nothing except learn acknowledge history and show sympathy
@@uniqueagent284 Come on man, we did what was considered cool, the normal and the right thing to do at that time.
What if the Soviet Union reunited today
Yousuf Qazi yes please!!!!!
+Franziska von Karma why?

Communism. That's why.
It existed so recently that it wouldn't be eye opening or astounding, therefore not worth making a video about.
At one point after the 7 years war, the philippines was surrendured to the british from spain, but it was taken back the next year.
The empire strikes back
The real question is How many Toyota Corollas could fit in the empire?!
What about Nissan Passans or Honda civics or most importantly the fiat puntos
OVER 9000
Someone do the freaking math.
CockatoosRus 9999999999
Your only can fit in the empire
what if eu became a country,or if the ussr reunited.
Balsa Kovacevic isn't that the same question
no subscribe what do you mean?
No
And the EU can't "become" a country, given that it is a UNION of countries.
The EU essentially is a country except by name. It functions very similar to the federal and stage governing bodies used by the US, there are a few key differences though.
We come for tea an cakes join us or die *puts on redcoat* 😂😂

Diversity means being mostly Asian... as an Asian, I am confused.
Diverse just means "not white".
Melon Lord and the world slowly opens its eyes
Dildo Shwaggins M8, I've already been hating keffiers for years, don't start your bullshit.
The British Empire was mainly Asian.
why would diverse be "not white"?
I'm Brazilian and to be honest the U.K is awesome!
They would hate you there, those racists pricks. They like you as long they can steal from your country, just like Spain, more racists assholes.
Greetings from the UK! :)
I liked your deleted comment, Martina.
You are just a racist as you make British people out to be, by this arrogant, ignorant post. Alot of British humour is based off of racism, meaning people believe we are generally racist, which of course we aren't. How could we be? We land grabbed so much we have a proud heritage and commonwealth, as many other Britons do also.
Video Watcher .. I would say British humour is based on stereotypes, sarcasm and ourselves.
Alternate universe: what if the British empire dissolved today?
Here 5 years later on the same day this was posted lol
What if the British Empire Reunited Today?... Next day, everyone wants independence.
Sergio ManOwaR haha nailed it
hahah yes it's a good one thanks. However no pun intended for brits, just joking.
I think many of the African countries would welcome British rule, since their new leaders have raped their countries for decades.
India first
Sergio ManOwaR Yeah from Europe xD
