I ALMOST DIED! COOKING UP A STORM - DUTCH OVEN GUMBO
Please join me while I fight through the storm to cook up a great Florida Style Gumbo. I will show you all the steps to make a delicious gumbo in the dutch oven that you can tweak to your taste. This is a guide, NOT a recipe. Once you master the roux, everything else is EASY. Gumbo is a delicious dish that is not just made in South Louisiana. This has been around all over the Southern Coast for hundreds of years. The French settled Florida and the Southern Eastern coast a long time ago and brought their cooking with them. These historic dishes are still around today with regional twists.

I need to thank you Mr Backwoods for all I’ve learned from you with Dutch oven cooking. I impressed some people at the Labor Day picnic with my Dutch oven cooking.
Man that looks good!!! 🔥😎
I love your gumbo, Mr. Backwoods! I have made it a number of times, and it has become a family favorite! I have done it to both entertain and nourish company! We too like a little spice, but not too much! Your recipes always hit the mark! Thanks for sharing and for weathering that storm! Cheers!
Looks awesome! Great advice about modifying recipes too👍😊
I started my Griswold collection a few years ago after watching your videos. Great tip on modifying recipes! Thanks Scott!
Hay that looks better than the stuff I had last night at a wedding reception. They burned it at the beginning and they had rice in which it was under cooked too.
That look good 👍 wish we had some of your rain though , could you send some to the west coast buddy…. Lol
Awesome looking dish!!!!
Looks terrific! How do you keep all of that beautiful cast iron so nice keeping it outdoors in Florida humidity? No one in my house would touch okra. Have a suggestion for a substitute? Thank you
Looks delicious buddy
Looks great, glad to see the okra. I think I can make this, I’ve been intimidated by the gumbo and haven’t yet tried one since I’m a newb. I’m in south Louisiana but they all make it to complicated. This looks nice and easy. Thanks!
Nice touch adding the shrimp stock to the roux before adding the veggies. I always add the veggies before and it always clumps up. Will definitely try!
Good cookin!
Now man I like that recipe! Good job! I love okra so much
might just fight for a bowl of that............................

6:17 You done flung a cravin on me.
It was really good!
Had someone, (from La.), tell me that Gumbo can't be Gumbo without some Gumbo filé added to the pot. chuckle. Sure looked good.
Looks delicious!!!
Be there in about 10 hours! 😅
Come on. You just got to go help catch all the ingredients.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel 🙌👍👊
If you want to make your shrimp stock pop, add a stick of celery and half or a third yellow or sweet onion, based upon what little I saw in your bowl if you didn't do that already 👍 I'm surprised you didn't put more and chop up the shrimp though Nice job
