Radiator is original. Only the transmission got rebuilt at ~800k km's, and only due to hardcore offroading and abusive situations, which it's had it's entire life! Best vehicles on the planet!

  • I have had my 2006 in Cypress Pearl since August of 2006. My wife and I decided to place our finances in a vehicle that will take us well into retirement at the time. It now has around 497,000 miles. It has been kept in the garage since day 1. The AHC suspension system is still functioning well on the original shocks and ancillary equipment, with regular Toyota AHC fluid changes and globes being replaced at the start of the pandemic. I have used it to haul a 7,000 pound trailer occasionally and enter my vacation property through a 14% grade offroad, and the vehicle handles it just fine. Brought to the dealer for every maintenance and annual inspection, and my mechanic says if I do not sell it to him once it is decided, he will never speak to me again. All paint is original and waxed twice a year by a detail shop, as well as undercoated prior to every winter and then washed off at the start of spring. One key item I would like to share is my method of cutting in half all maintenance intervals. For example, the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, pulleys, etc. are replaced every 50,000 miles. Full synthetic oil changes are done around every 3500 miles. Tires are replaced every 4 years regardless of tread depth. Brake fluid is flushed every 15,000 miles, and a full brake replacement, including parking brake shoes, every 40,000 miles. The oil on the dipstick does not move at all from full mark between oil changes, and this is the only vehicle I have ever owned that has never leaked any fluid. I wax the windshield once a month in order to prevent bugs from sticking and to help prevent rock chips on the original windshield. I have a lot of respecf for these vehicles, and a sentimental attachment to ours specfically, due to transporting 4 generations of our family over the years. Anyone who is reading this and considers buying a new one, think twice. They are not built like they used to be, and never will. Last summer, we drove it to Halifax from our home in Queens, while last month we drove down to Florida. I do not trust any other method of transportation as much as this vehicle to keep my family safe and comfortable on those crazy roads. Wishig everyone peaceful and enjoyable upcoming holidays

    • Very nice maintenance schedule. You do not need to change the water pump and timing belt every 50K if you are using all OEM parts and changing the tensioners and pulleys every time. it is the tensioners and pulleys which wear out the timing belt. I have seen many with more than 200K on the original timing belt and waterpump. A good time to change it is around 100-120K

  • My GX has 336K. These are incredible trucks that can be gotten cheap now because the milage is not good. Maintenance is so easy (videos on youtube on how to do everything yourself) that even though the milage is about 15mph, you don't really have other costs. The build quality if way beyond everything else out there.

Runs perfect, but had to replace the front shocks, sway bar bushings and end links, upper control arms, tie rod ends, and one axle; but thanks to KZhead, I did it all myself and only spent under $1k in parts. Also had a shop replace the power steering rack that cost $1k with an oem rack included. Now the thing rides perfect and I’m sure I could easily get another 300k miles on it.

Even with the rust however, everything is original with the exception of CV axles and the alternator which just recently went out at 230,000 miles. I hope to have another one some day!

  • I bought 3 Iveco daily trucks in 2004, for towing trailers long distance at 7 tons GTW. The one I used did 1,200,000 miles and was still going well when it was stolen. It had a gearbox a 900,000 and an engine rebuild at 1.1 million. The only reason we took the engine apart was that it smoked at idle - valve stem seals. So it just had std rings, bearings, valve grind, gaskets and seals and was back in use. I had a lexus LS400 too, 350,000 when sold.

The other two did well, too, one sold at 830,000 and the other crashed at 530,000. My insurance company tried to pay me scrap money for the stolen one, saying it must be knackered, but I pointed out that a vehicle will be knackered at 100,000 miles if it's not looked after, but to keep it going reliably it has to be pretty well perfect all through its life. • I owned a 2000 Land Cruiser. Bought it with 59K. traded it in at 130K, Biggest car regret was getting rid of it. The car had all the records and the only thing that was done was new brake pads and tires. At 129K the original rotors were still good. Oh and the tape deck was broken which I didn't know until my wife tried to use it. These cars don't even need to be garage kept. Just wash it with an undercarriage wash and change the oil and timing belt changes. I recently purchased new 2022 4runner. There was a trade in going on at the same time. 890K on a 1991 4runner. They gave the guy 2K for it. The older gentleman had to rebuild the transmission once and normal maintenance. It was unbelievable. I went from Toyota to Land rovers( which included a lemon law lawsuit) . As I age my wisdom increases and I have gone back to Toyota. I try to explain to people the difference between going to a Land Rover service center and a Toyota service center. You have to wait in line to check your car into a Land Rover. Like waiting in line to go to the club. The customers are dressed the same also. ;)

  • My dad has a 2008 Toyota Hilux at 400,000km. Diesel Engine has never been touched, shocks have never been changed, doesn’t smoke. Get yourself a Toyota.

  • I’ve put 100k miles on my 04, just traded an Acura MDX for a 13 LX570 with 90k. Both start and drive like brand new cars, cost of ownership is cheaper than a Kia. Just can’t beat ‘em.

    • Wow congrats on that upgrade! The LX570 is next on my bucket list. Good power... exceptional luxury.. and built like a tank! Congrats! Cheers!

  • Amazing vehicle! What were his oil Change internals & oil type? Just to be fair I’ve seen Suburbans with 600K on them .

    • They changed oil every 3-5k miles. 5w30- Full synthetic! And yes, the 5.3 and the other ls based engines can go high miles. But, Gm had the 4l60 that would burn up fairly easy. If you maintenance them religiously you could probably get those high miles you've seen! The problem is us Chevy guys love performance and cams lol

  • Great video! I have a ‘96 Land Cruiser, it’s a little rough. Has anyone dealt with fixing steering play?

    @DLayman3315@DLayman3315 Жыл бұрын
    • I haven't had any issues with the steering play on the one's I've owned. Start with checking all tire rod bushings. Worst case scenario it's the steering box. When you off-road them a lot the start to form play! Hope this helps!
